“Pete, wake up Pete... Pete!” The Monster calls out.

Pete Brian wakes up and rubs his tired eyes.

“It has begun,” The Monster says.

“What has, Monster...?” Pete asks.

“The king of the wolves died last night. I remember it was supposed to happen,” The Monster says.

“How can you remember if it only just happened?” Pete asks.

“The prophecy told me. Thirty-three more years left to go until the hero of legend comes to Snyvolon. That is, after I die. My death will come soon. Pete hugs The Monster.

“LET GO OF ME. IT IS TIME YOU SEE THE REAL ME!” The Monster yells.

Pete lets go and steps back. The Monster transforms into a gigantic black tiger with dark gray stripes. His huge red eyes beam angrily at the tiny boy who sits in front of him. His mouth is filled with many sharp teeth.

“Now you see me!” The Monster says.

Pete freaks out.

“AHHH NO!!!” Pete wails.

“See?! This is why nobody can love me!” The Monster says.

“Don’t eat me!” Pete cries out.

“I’m not going to eat you. I need you,” The Monster says.

“Okay...” Pete says.

“I am, after all, your teacher,” The Monster says.

He returns to his human form.

“Do you still care about me?” The Monster asks.

“You’re kind of scary...” Pete says.

“Exactly,” The Monster says.

“You learn new things every day...” Pete says.

The Monster purrs.

“Can you teach me more spells?” Pete asks, whipping out his wand.

The Monster returns to where he was standing previously.

“That’s the spell that knocks enemies down. It’s so painful they can’t get back up,” The Monster says.

“Where did you get all these spells from anyways...?” Pete asked.

“A spell book. Your cousin owns a copy,” The Monster says.

“I have a cousin?” Pete asks.

“Yeah. He lives in Mycono Kingdom,” The Monster says, “My birth home...”

“Wow! I’d like to meet my cousin and play magic with him!” Pete says.

“He’s a coward,” The Monster says with a snarl.

“I still would like to meet him,” Pete says.

“One day, young man... One day...” The Monster says with a chuckle.

“I get to show off my wand...” Pete says.

“Yes. He has one too. It’s very long and rigid,” The Monster says.

“So... harder than mine?” Pete asks, holding up his wand.

“Yep. Yours is a bit more flexible than his,” The Monster says.

“Is that a good thing or a bad thing?” Pete asks.

“He just needs a completely rigid one because he’s clumsy and would snap his wand if it were any more flexible,” The Monster says.

“Oh! Okay!” Pete says.

The Monster and Pete continue working on torture spells together.
