"Maybe I should learn from you?"

Derek chuckled. He never wanted to give up.

No matter what, everything was much better than when he thought Meredith was dead.

As long as she was alive, there were always many possibilities.

He wouldn't just walk away, but he might have to change his ways.

"Your situation is much better than mine."

Asher smiled bitterly. At least, they were in love, but they couldn't be together because of some external factors.

As for him, he could not be sure of his feelings for Chloe, nor did he know that she was going to be engaged to him out of love or that she just needed someone to take care of her.

But it didn't matter anymore.

"Asher, if you don't want to engage with her, then reconsider it. You've taken care of her a lot. You don't need to force yourself."

Wises

Asher didn't want to talk about it, so he gave a simple reply.

Hanging up the phone, Derek was absorbed in thought.

The next morning

Easton didn't sleep well. He felt something was wrong.

When he woke up, Meredith was not up yet, so he got up quietly, opened the door, and went to find Derek.

Easton knocked on the door. Derek came over and opened the door and let Easton in.

"You got up so early."

There was nothing unusual about Derek's expression. He looked calm.

Easton looked at Derek a few times and still couldn't hold back his words. "Dad, what happened to you and mom? I'm worried."

Derek's hand, which was pouring water, paused and spilled some water on his finger. He pretended that nothing had happened. "Nothing. It's just that I might need to give your mother some space from now on."

"Space? What do you mean?"

Easton was smart, but he did not understand the entanglement only belonged to the adult world. "Do you want to separate?”

Derek smiled, "I don't think so. Your mother has a lot of things to deal with right now, and so do I. I have to handle those things before I see her. Otherwise, she'll be unhappy.”

Last night, Derek couldn't sleep either.

He had been thinking about what Meredith said and the way she looked at him.

Only then did he realize that the entanglement between them might bring her more unhappiness. If so, perhaps he should reflect on whether he had done something wrong in the past.

"When will you handle them..."

Easton pouted and dangled his short fair legs.

He felt that things between adults were too complicated.

Couldn't they be simpler?

"Anyway, I'm still your father, and she's still your mother. Our feelings for you won't change. Easton, don't think too much.”

Derek touched Easton's head, squatted down, and looked at him.

Easton listened to him. "You have to figure it out quickly, deal with your things, and pursue mom." Easton nodded. "I promise.”

"Pinky swear."

Easton was still clamoring for Derek to give him more serious assurance.

Derek couldn't help but laugh at Easton's rare childishness.

Easton was still a child. Didn't he know that they could break the promise even if they pinky swore? He didn't want to say anything to disappoint Easton. Instead, Derek reached out his hand to his son. "I promise you, and I will do it."

"Deal!"

Easton mumbled for a while, relieved.

"Go back. If she doesn't see you when she wakes up, she must be worried.”

"Okay. I'm going to buy breakfast for mom.”

Easton nodded sensibly and went out with Derek to buy breakfast before returning to his room. As soon as he opened the door, he noticed that Meredith was anxious and was about to go out. She heaved a sigh of relief to see Easton. "Easton, where have you been? When I woke up and saw you gone, I thought..."

Meredith was still in shock.

"I'm fine. I ... bought you something.”

Easton was embarrassed. He scratched his head and showed Meredith what he was holding.

He ran out in a hurry.

He didn't expect his mother to be so worried.

"He's fine. He just came to me because he was hungry.”

Derek looked at Meredith and said as gently as possible.

Hearing the man's voice, Meredith was stunned for a moment. She looked up and saw that there was nothing wrong with his expression. She had mixed feelings. "I know."

Derek stopped pestering her and patted Easton on the shoulder. "Stay here with your mother, okay?"

Easton nodded, and Derek left trustingly. Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the (ꜰind)ɴʘvel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Meredith looked at his back and was slightly lost in thought.

It felt like everything was changing so fast. Derek would have asked the family to eat together in the past.

But now...

It seemed that he was much more relaxed than she had imagined.

"Mom? What are you looking at?"

Easton tugged at the corner of Meredith's shirt to bring her back to her senses.

"Nothing."

She smiled. Maybe she should learn to be relaxed. After all, she said it herself to separate.

She had to adapt to this change as soon as possible.

Meredith took Easton into the room, and they ate something together.

"Easton, do you have anywhere you want to go?"

Meredith knew that Easton was a restless child, so she asked him if he wanted to go somewhere. Although it was her first time in Capital City, she was not interested in such a prosperous city. "Well, let me see. I'll find out what's fun later."

When Easton heard that he was going out, he forgot his unhappiness.

"Can we ask dad to come with us?"

Easton quickly finished his breakfast, ran to turn on his computer, and began to search for bucket lists.

After searching, there were really many attractions here, and there were many of them that he wanted to go to.

He wanted to go with his parents.

"Your father may be busy. We can go there, just ourselves.”

Meredith sat beside Easton and patiently enlightened him.

Easton nodded and didn't say anything, but it was obvious that he lost his interest.

Meredith looked at him with mixed feelings, but that was all she could do.

If she and Derek were separated, and Derek was married to another woman, this would be normal. Perhaps it would be better for Easton to get used to it in advance.

In this way, neither of them spoke again. Easton looked up where he was going, but he was absent- minded.

Meredith looked at him, not knowing how to cheer him up.
