Scarlett

"Who else knew Scarlett?" Christopher asked, his tone gentle, firm but gentle.

"Bertha gave me a pregnancy test after I was sick in the morning. But she's a nurse here at the hospital for years, she didn't…" Christopher didn't finish waiting for me to speak, he lifted his gaze from mine and said in towards Marquardt.

"If she's innocent nothing will happen, but besides her, it's just your family, and I don't believe that any Byron would betray us, especially because it's your baby too." He used his gentle tone of voice again, and when talking about the Byrons he looked up at my father.

Christopher stood up and slowly put on his shirt, and he sighed as he stood in front of me and tucked two strands of my hair behind my ear before cupping my chin, and lifting my face to look at him.

"Scarlett, listen to me." His eyes met mine and I lost myself in the blue immensity of them once again. "I will not let anything happen to you or this baby, I will give my life to protect you if necessary. Until then we have had random attacks, but today this was a clear and direct threat to you. I will declare war until everyone who threatens your lives is dead. But I need you to be safe, I will ask your brother to take you to the Pack House as an escort, and I will send guards to stay with you, I want you to stay there until I find you, okay?" Christopher's words brought concern and fear to me, and it must have been written all over my face because he kept talking. "You don't need to be scared, I'm doing all this to protect you and absolutely nothing will happen to you." I understood that, but I wasn't just afraid for myself, I was afraid for our baby, but the way he said it, it wasn't just a phrase, it was a sentence, it was a certainty and that gave me security, I knew he would protect us.

Whatever it takes.

"Okay. But I want Thomas." I said.

"Thomas?" Christopher frowned until he finally remembered the name. "Your brother-in-law, isn't it?"

"Yes," I said simply.

"Alright, get Thomas and 5 other guards at least," Christopher ordered and Carl just nodded.

"Thomas was on the redheads' case, but he can make an exception," Carl added, and I remembered that Thomas had commented, that they were investigating the deaths of some red-haired girls near the borders, it was worked between Packs, and Thomas was assigned to investigate further, but as it wasn't something exactly within our Pack, the Council was the one investigating this further.

"I need to go," Christopher said and I nodded, but he was quick when he wrapped me in his arms and kissed me, it was intense but it was gentle, and there, in his arms, I felt as if absolutely nothing could reach me. Christopher let go of me and smiled as his hand cupped my face and he caressed my cheek lightly. Another hand of his went to his lips, he kissed his fingers and brought them to my belly, the gesture sent a shiver down my spine.

I smiled.

And he walked out the door with Carl and Alefe behind him.

My father stayed, he turned his body to face mine.

"I'll also do everything I can to protect you, don't you know? And well…" Now he laughed. "I didn't imagine, it would be the Alpha's son or daughter, but I always wanted to be a grandfather." He took my hand now and placed it on his palm. "You know Scarlett, I don't know for sure what happened, but I've always trusted your judgment. I know that everything that happened was for the best, and if you choose the Alpha as your mate, I'll support you too. Even if it does you be my boss." He laughed now.

"It would be funny, to say the least, wouldn't it?" I smiled back saying.

"Yes, I would. But you've always been a leader, you'd be a great Luna, Scarlett."

"Thank you, Dad, I still don't know if that's what I want. But knowing that you would support me means a lot." I turned to him, and he was smiling.

"Always dear." He now kissed my cheek. "I need to go, I'll see you… "He was going to say at home, but he knew I wouldn't go there anymore, at least for now. "Soon." He completed. "I'll talk to your brother to take you as soon as Thomas and the other guards arrive."

"Thanks." I said and saw him walk out that door.

My head was spinning, but I placed my hand on my belly and if there was one certainty in this world, it was that I would also do everything to protect this baby.

It didn't take long for the guards to arrive, I waited inside the same room, my mother and sister stayed there keeping me company and then Thomas came in knocking twice on the door. He was big, tall, and strong, he had brown hair and eyes, and to me, he was almost like my older brother. He came in gave Karen a quick kiss on the lips and came towards me, I was still sitting on the stretcher.

"Shall we go, Ms. Scarlett? Or should I call you Luna?" He said the last sentence laughing.

I pushed his shoulder laughing too.

"No, you fool. I still haven't decided if I'm going to be Luna or not."

"But he invited you?" My mother now asked.

"Yes, he said he thinks I could be his second chance mate." I responded by shrugging my shoulders and getting off the stretcher.

"And you think it is?" Karen now asked, and the words that came out of my mouth were much more from my heart than my brain.

"I'm sure." It was sincere, from the bottom of my heart.

My sister smiled, and Thomas opened the door, I went out and there were 5 more guards, and they followed me outside the hospital. My brother was waiting for me next to a large Chevrolet SUV, it was one of the guard cars.

"This one is also armored." He said, hitting his hand on the bodywork, I knew he wanted to give me more security, but that scared me more.

Bob opened the car door for me, and Thomas went with us, the other guards went with the other guard's cars, and as soon as we got out Bob said.

"Are you okay?" He asked simply.

"As much as possible, I'm just a little scared, trying to digest things," I said shrugging my shoulders and crossing my arms.

"Speaking of digesting Scarlett, you're dating the Alpha and now pregnant with him. I haven't digested that yet." Bob said, laughing loudly, and made the entire tense atmosphere in the car disappear.

"I'm glad you said it, I was biting myself inside to say that," Thomas added, laughing too.

"Hey." I tried to warn them, but I ended up laughing along with them. "I didn't plan this, okay? It just happened…” I said but ended up laughing at the end too.

"Who knew my little sister would be Luna," Bob said tapping on the steering wheel. "But would you be my boss too, then?" Now he asked confused.

"She would be everyone's boss," Thomas said laughing too.

"I haven't accepted being Luna yet, but I'm seriously thinking about it," I said confessing, and I was, it was as if deep in my heart it felt right.

"You would be amazing as Luna," Thomas said, squeezing my shoulder, and he was the second person I trusted and told me that.

We arrived at Pack's House, and Bob took me to a room, I thought it was even better than the bedroom, it was strange being there without Christopher, Bob showed me the library and the TV room, and we talked for a few minutes, but then he left, leaving me with the 6 guards, one of them was Thomas and he made everything lighter, I talked a little but he was still working there, I read a little and watched a little but then I ended up falling asleep.

I dreamed of clouds, it was an abstract dream, but I felt an absurd peace, and it made me relax.

I woke up being lifted, and his scent hit my nose before my eyes opened. Christopher had picked me up, he adjusted me with the blanket that was over my body and held me against his chest, I snuggled into his lap, and he went up the stairs with me. We entered the room and he laid me on the bed and I sighed at the absence of his touch.

"What time is it?" I said stretching, still with my eyes closed.

"Late, go back to sleep. I'm going to bed soon." He said and I opened my eyes slightly seeing him take off his shirt, but I was very sleepy, my eyes closed again. I'm not sure how much time passed until I felt his body lay down next to mine, his body wrapped around mine, and one of his two legs wrapped around mine and pulled me close, his hand pulled my waist, I snuggled into his embrace, while he snuggled around my body, I let out a sigh even before saying.

"I like that." He said with his voice still choked.

"Me too." He replied, and I felt my body grow heavy before I fell asleep again.
