Adelaide

I get into a routine over the next few days. Wade and I do something together. I then lock my door, transform into my wolf, and let her take over for the night. Trey’s been busy on guard duty, but at least he can look after Christopher while there.

I’ve locked the door and transform, my speed is almost back, my raven furred figure ambles around the room. I can feel her frustration, her irritation. ‘I need to run,’ she whines to me on the third night.

‘I’m sorry,’ is all I can muster as she sniffs the same spot in the room for the twentieth time

‘Why don’t you ask Wade?’

‘Ask him what?’

‘Ask him for us to go run silly, I’m sure he won’t say no to letting you out.’ I suppose it can’t hurt to ask... Samual’s still not back. I transform back and pull on jeans and a top.

I hear movement so go towards that door. And knock.

Wade opens the door. His chiselled tanned abs glistening, I look down his chest, his adonis lines almost pointing to a pair of boxers showing oh too much. He’s obviously just got out the shower, a towel in hand. “I...” Oh wow. That’s not what I was expecting underneath his clothes. My face feels hot as I’m certain I turn bright red, “Hello Princess.” A small smirk playing on his lips as he watches me.

“I didn’t know you lived on this floor,” I manage to blurt out

‘What was that? Of course he lives on this floor?!’ my wolf cries in my head but so many thoughts are swimming she almost gets lost. “So... you weren’t looking for me?” He folds his arms, his muscles rippling with the movement, he’s still looking amused.

“I... yes... I.”

Pull yourself together woman, he’s just a man and you are not sixteen. “Close your mouth darling.” He leans closer to me sending tingles down my spine. I didn’t even realise my mouth was open! He gently puts a finger under my chin and gives a little push so my jaw shuts. I wet my mouth a few times, trying to regain some form of composure.

I suck in a breath “I was going to ask you if I could go for a run,” I say quickly. “My wolf’s driving me insane,” I manage to actually form words, much better.

He chuckles, “Great idea, you mind if I join?” I manage to shake my head before he turns around. I allow my eyes to take in his rippling muscles that tighten over his back as he grabs a pair of jeans. ‘Isn’t he a picture of perfection?’ I can almost hear her licking her lips.

I peek into his room while he tugs on a pair of faded jeans. It was much larger than the guest suite, which made sense. Two sofas stood opposite each other with a TV hanging on the wall over them. Fur rugs were dotted over the wooden floor. His bed was larger than mine at home, didn’t think they made beds that large. Crisp white sheets were neatly made but a dark blue throw was pulled to the side. I saw three doors leading from the bedroom, I could guess the first two but unsure about the third.

“Ready?” Wade, still shirtless, stands in front of me blocking my view of his room... however the view of him is rather delici- I turn from him. He’s still his father’s son, stop drooling over him it’s just a body. He strolls ahead leading the way. I allow myself to admire his rear for a while before I step in with his strides.

We get to the trees that we had walked around a few days before, I go further from him so I can undress. My wolf bursts out of my body, I can feel her excitement of being free. This is where she belongs, not cooped up in my human form. I pad back to where Wade has just transformed, his every shade of brown wolf’s head comes to my chin.

I look down to him, noticing the fur on his face is lighter before it fades darker then fading back to light brown at his hind. I love seeing people’s wolves for the first time, gives a small indication of their true personality. Unfortunately, I couldn’t see any ugliness in his form, which I had been hoping for. I want to hate him, I want a reason to hate him other than his father.

He’s staring at my wolf, many do. Hunterson wolves are one of a kind, we’re all raven furred, with our golden eyes. Our sheer size can stop a war, and that is why we are classed as royalty in the wolf world. We’re the protectors of our kind, we keep order and control and we offer refuge for any wolf that needs it.

I look to Wade before I jump past him and race off. My wolf exclaims in excitement while the pads of my paws hit the dirt. Twigs crunch with my weight. The breeze whips through my long raven fur. I can hear Wade behind me, his paws despite his smaller frame seem to hit the ground heavier than mine.

“You’re fast,” he pants towards me, our minds open to each other for communication. For a moment I think to raise my wall, prevent him. But that’s dangerous when I’m on unfamiliar territory, he needs to be able to warn me if I’m approaching the edge of their territory. But I also need to get to the edge... I need to work out where I am.

I dart between the trees, the distance between Wade and me increasing. “Slow down, there’s no rush,” he’s panting heavier than before, I slow a little. “Sorry, it’s been a while, she needs to properly stretch her legs,” it’s half true.

The moonlight shines between the leaves. Casting enough light for our wolf sight to see as if it were day. I allow my free feeling, allow my wolf to enjoy herself. It feels nice and I don’t actually mind Wade tagging along behind me. I see the edge of the woods and begin to slow I can see a pasture through the trees. “We’re a minute run from the edge of the territory, next territory is Silversmith.” I know where we are...

We’re in the next country! ‘I can’t run that far that quick, I’ll never make the 600-mile round trip before Chris dies’ my wolf mutters to me, defeated.

‘What allied packs are near here? There’s got to be one within 50 miles,’ I’m asking myself rather than my wolf.

“If we run that way we’ll reach the sea in an hour, that run will stretch your wolf’s legs.” Wade’s voice interrupts my frantic thoughts. “Sounds good,” I grunt and start running in the direction he gestured to with his snout.

I let Wade go in front and I follow his bushy brown tail. ‘If we’re close to the sea that means we’re 350 miles from home,’ my wolf whines, I nod in my head to her. I didn’t realise we were that far away. ‘and definitely no packs... maybe we can ring them? They can get here faster than father can,’ I let the small glimmer of hope flutter in my stomach... I just need to find a phone...
