Chapter 13

Markus’s eyes sparkled “Really? Shall we discuss my history with the Legio Fenricus Commandery first, then your

measurements?”

Abigail was not amused.

She had made a casual comment, but he took it to heart.

One of the unwritten rules of Riverside City’s elite was not to discuss her-Abigail’s-measurements, stature, or beauty, especially not in a lewd tone.

If she got wind of such a conversation, the speaker, regardless of their status, would be taught a harsh, unforgettable lesson in City Watch

At this moment, Markus was practically drilling holes into her with his gaze, the word ‘lewd’ practically stamped on his face.

His anticipation was palpable.

If it weren’t for the fact that he’d recently been discharged from Greenvale Mental Institution and they had the plan to collaborate, Abigail’d give him a treatment of City Watch right away.

Resisting the urge to switch off the surveillance and flip the interrogation table, Abigail managed to force a strained smile, “Okay.”

“Discussing your measurements with the City Watch feels a bit off. How about we move the conversation to a hotel later?” Markus suggested, brimming with excitement.

Underneath the interrogation table, Abigail’s delicate hands clenched into fists, shaking violently.

Talk about taking a mile when given an inch!

“Mr. Blackthorn, don’t you think you’re crossing a line?”

Markus seemed to snap back to reality, hastily agreeing, “Yes, yes, I’ve been careless! Matters of the heart should be approached gradually, step by step. We’re moving too fast!”

Who in the blazes wants to have any relationship with you!

Right now, Markus reminded her of the garden-variety perverts who occasionally got brought in for harassing women.

“Mr. Blackthorn, a person’s patience has its limits! Especially… a woman with a temper!”

Markus feigned ignorance, “Does that mean, you’re on your period?”

“Bang!”

“Are you a chatterbox, aren’t you?!”

Abigail rose to her feet, slamming her hand down on the interrogation table, the noise reverberating in the room.

Her eyes blazed like a raging inferno.

At this point, Markus’s lips curled up in a smirk.

Abigail couldn’t handle it anymore?

In the long hours of the night, how was she to engage in a conversation with him?

He moved his body, lying back comfortably in the interrogation chair, hands cradling the back of his head.

His feet found their way onto the table, one after another.

Abigail didn’t mind his cavalier attitude, as long as he refrained from his infuriating prattle.

“First off, when did you get to Insatiable Bar?” started Markus.

“I haven’t even had dinner yet, Abigail responded.

“Who called the police?”

“Sebastian.”

“Gotcha.”

Markus was piecing together the puzzle.

Sebastian, concerned for his safety, had decided to call the police.

Abigail, with another purpose, hadn’t stopped him right away.  Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the FɪndNøvel.ɴᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Chapter 13

Just at the right time, she had her people come around on a call.

And she, coincidentally, entered the bar at the perfect moment.

It’s your turn to ask.”

Fumbling in his pocket, Markis unearthed the last one of his Treasurer, lighting it up with a pang of regret.,

‘Back to the previous question, I’m quite curious about Mr. Blackthorn’s service in the Northern Garrison Legio Fenricus Commandery these past eight years! There’s nothing on the records! Quite strange!

“What’s even stranger, Mr. Blackthorn, is how you were let loose from Greenvale Mental Institution!

“Not many folks know about the Greenvale Mental Institution, and even fewer know what goes on there! But I… I know!”

Markus grinned, his eyes crinkling. “It’s no state secret, there’s nothing I can’t spill.”

With an air of seriousness, Abigail was all ears.

Terrified of missing a single detail of what was to come.

“Heard about the natural-born general in the Northern Boundaries?”

Markus took a deep drag of his cigarette, exhaling slowly.

The smoke enveloped his face, unfurling and diffusing into the air, hazy and indistinct.

His face told a story of countless vicissitudes.

In this fleeting moment, Abigail was lost in thought.

An impractical thought crossed her mind.

“Could you be… The Sixth Master… of the Northern Boundaries?!”

Sinoval boasts ten military districts!

The Northern Boundaries hosts two.

Legio Fenricus Commandery and Legio Aquila Commandery!

In the vast snowfields of the north, wolves and hawks aren’t the mightiest creatures, but they stand atop the food chain.

They possess tremendous endurance.

And they can be quite cold-hearted.

Legio Fenricus Commandery and Legio Aquila Commandery were named after these.

Among Sinoval’s ten military districts.

Legio Fenricus Commandery stands first.

Legio Aquila Commandery holds the third spot.

Just beyond the Northern Boundaries, lay a massive nation, its vast expanse not an inch shy of that of Sinoval. It goes by the name Primordia!

Being neighbors, if they weren’t allies, they were enemies!

The war that brewed between these titans of countries had a history that spanned over thousands of years.

To be exact, it was between the Northern Boundaries and Primordia.

Primordia once-broke through the Northern Boundaries’ walls, stamping over its four million square miles territory.

Soldiers of the Northern Boundaries had also reached Primordia’s Lunarvale, nearly crumbling the foundation of Primordia./

For over thousands of years, the Northern Boundaries and Primordia had bled too much.

The hatred had reached a point of no return.

Despite the passage of time, Primordia had not let go of its ambition to invade the Northern Boundaries or the entirety of

Sinoval

Legio Fenricus Commandery and Legio Aquila Commandery were the defenders of the Northern Boundaries.

They were collectively known as the Legions of the North!

A year prior, Field Marshal of the Legions of the North was Sinoval’s most distinguished marshal, Aurelius Stormrage

At the age of 50, he had dedicated thirty-two years to service.

Chapter 13

From a mere foot soldier, he became the guardian angel of the Northern Boundaries.

Both of his sons, warriors in their own right, fell on the battlefield under the walls of the Northern Boundaries.

He led a life of solitary resilience.

His days were spent overseeing the icy, blood-stained walls of the Northern Boundaries.

He was Sinoval’s lionheart, a hero respected by the nation’s 1.5 billion citizens! No one dared to criticize him!

Having lost his sons on the battlefield, Aurelius adopted six children.

These were the most outstanding young warriors from the Legio Aquila Commandery and Legio Fenricus Commandery.

In his grand scheme of things, one day when he falls on the battlefield, the future Field Marshal of the Northern Boundaries will rise from these six.

Among them, two shone the brightest.

One was Magnus Ironfist, the acting Field Marshal of the Northern Boundaries.

He was Aurelius’s second adopted son.

The Second Master of the Northern Boundaries!

The other one was the youngest.

But his feats of valor were the most eye-catching.

In just a span of five years, he rose from a mere foot soldier to one of the colonels of the Legio Fenricus Commandery, second only to the Field Marshal.

The speed of his promotion was twice as fast as that of Aurelius all those years ago!

That person was known as a natural-born general!

He was viewed as the Northern Boundaries’ shining beacon of hope for a stable future.

And among the ranks of the Legions of the North, he was the odds-on favorite to step into the Field Marshal’s boots.

He was given the rank of an army Brigadier General!

He was the sixth adopted child of Aurelius, known across the Northern Boundaries as… The Sixth Master!

Yet what was odd about the Sixth Master was his aura of mystery. Outsiders had just a smidge of information-they knew his surname was Blackthorn, but his first name was as secret as a freemason’s handshake.

A year prior, the Primordia overstepped Sinoval’s boundaries, sending an armed-to-the-teeth army of 300,000 towards the Snowscale Pass, their eyes set on its seizure and preparing for another assault.

If the Primordia were to take over the Snowscale Pass, they’d have a stronghold that they could use as a springboard for attack or a bunker for defense. This put the Legions of the North in a bit of a pickle.

Field Marshal Aurelius wouldn’t stand for this. He rolled up his sleeves, mustered 200,000 of Legio Fenricus Commandery’s and Legio Aquila Commandery’s best and brightest, and steered them into battle.

That bloody conflict took many lives, including that of Field Marshal Aurelius himself…

Rumour has it that Sixth Master Blackthorn was also seriously wounded in that battle, with injuries that weren’t about to heal anytime soon.

There were whispers that the Sixth Master Blackthorn had, in fact, already kicked the bucket.

The news of his deal was being hushed up, it was said, simply to keep the morale of the Legions of the North from hitting rock bottom.

Why else would Eribourne select Magnus Ironfist as Field Marshal instead of Sixth Master Blackthorn?

No one knew that Abigail’s greatest admiration was for the enigmatic Grand Commander of the Northern Boundaries, Brigadier General Sixth Master Blackthorn!

Her greatest wish was to get some face time with him.

Even if they were worlds apart.

She didn’t mind if Sixth Master Blackthorn didn’t lay his eyes on her.

After all, the Sixth Master Blackthorn was only in his mid-twenties. Markus’s age was about the same as he was.

Markus’s surname was Blackthorn.

He was a veteran of the Legio Fenricus Commandery.

Yet, Sixth Master Blackthorn was renowned as a brilliant strategist who could dictate the outcome of battles from afar. He

Abigail’s heart was racing, pounding out of control.

The answer seemed to be on the tip of her tongue.

Could he really be… the Sixth Master Blackthorn
