After awhile Luna stopped crying and lifted her head from my shoulder, “What are we supposed to do with her now? We can’t just leave her here.”

I looked over at the lifeless girl, “We can bury her somewhere. Central Park maybe?”

She shook head and wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, “No... no we can’t add anymore time to this. We have to find your dad and save everyone. We aren’t going to risk anymore people dying or getting hurt... We can put her out somewhere. After all when this thing gets reversed they will find all of the others too.”

Even when she is broken she still thinks of others before herself.

I gave her nod, “Okay. Do you remember a place she liked?”

Her eyes dimmed as she looked over at Iris. She was deep in thought for a few minutes then her eyes returned to their bright color, “There is a community garden just down the street. She used to always go there.”

She stood up, looking around until she grabbed a quilt from the sofa. She carefully draped it over Iris. Luna reached over gently closing her eye lids. She wiped her eyes again, “Can you help me carry her?”

I stood up and walked closer, “It’s okay. I can carry her.”

I lifted Iris up wrapping her more in the blanket. Her head laid against my chest as I held her close. Her body was cold and was so white. She so small too, so young. I began walking with her towards the door, Luna followed behind me quietly, with Macy occasionally rubbing against our legs in an attempt to comfort us.

We left the building and began walking down the street. Luna took the lead as we walked in silence. After about five minutes we came up the a gate that Luna unlatched. There was a small path that weaved through trees. There were colorful flowers planted along the path and multiple butterflies fluttered passed us. We kept walking deeper into the dense garden and can up to a small pond with fish in it. It had a small waterfall creating calming sounds of the water trickling.

Luna stopped when we came up to another flower patch. Trees were bordering it and the sun was shining through their leaves.

“We should put her here. She would have liked this.”

I nodded and softly set her down onto the flowers and grass. I quickly straightened out her hair and unwrapped her from the quilt. I placed her hands clasped together laying on top of her stomach. Luna gave me a smile as I stepped back. I could see her eyes begin to water as she sat next to Iris.

She leaned over whispering something into ear and kissed her forehead. She stood up wiping her eyes and looked towards me, “We can go now.”

I simply nodded again and followed her out of the garden and back to the apartment in silence.

Luna was sitting on the sofa with her knees to her chest and her head laying on them. I was sitting next to her occasionally looking over to see if she was okay. I finally found the courage to speak up, “Can I ask you a question?”

She looked up and shyly nodded.

“Who was Iris? It’s okay if you don’t want to talk about it.”

She let out a sigh and shifted her legs so she was sitting criss-cross, “I might as well talk about it, it is the only way to move on.”

I understood and I wasn’t going to throw a whole bunch of questions at her.

She looked towards me, “Iris was my little sister and this is our house... That vision I had when we were at your house was of when my mother died. For some reason I didn’t remember any part with Iris in it, until today... Our dad was never in the picture and when our mother died, I promised I would take care of Iris. I got a job somewhere, I don’t remember where, and made enough money to keep this place,” I saw a few tears drip from her eyes, “I was supposed to protect her... now she is gone.”

I immediately engulfed her in a hug, “None of this is your fault. It is whoever dropped those bombs. You did everything you could. Understand?”

I felt her nod against my shoulder, “I know... It’s just hard knowing she is gone.”

I slowly rubbed circles on her back, “I understand... don’t quit on me though. I can’t save the city without my weird superhero.”

She pulled back giving me a big smile, “I will never... If I am a superhero what are you?”

I laughed shrugging, “I don’t know... I haven’t thought of anything embarrassing yet.”

She thought for minute then started laughing.

Oh no!

“What if were a weird gang leader?”

I burst out laughing, “What?”

She laughed too, “Well you wear all black and a trench coat... you also have a motorcycle... and you are mean.”

I playful pushed her over, “I am not that mean.”

She pushed me over too, “Okay... maybe not that mean. But you are a little.”

I shook my head falling back onto the sofa. She jumped up, “Well while you keep laughing. I am going to do something useful and make some coffee.”

I scoffed, “Wow coffee. So useful.”

She disappeared into the kitchen, “You haven’t had my coffee yet. You won’t be thinking that after you first drink it. I bet you won’t be able to resist from drinking it.”

I sat up, “Is that a challenge?”

She peeked her head out, “Hell yeah it is!”

I laid back again, “Okay then you are definitely going to lose.”

I heard her rattling and moving things around in the kitchen, “We will see about that! It will be ready in about five minutes.”

And the challenge begins.

I began smelling the brewing of coffee.

This is going to be harder than I thought.

I then heard the pouring of liquid followed by the spraying of whipped cream.

Oh she is evil.

Luna came walking out with two mugs with whipped cream towered on top and what looked like chocolate sprinkles. She set it on the table in front of me, “Oh wait... there is more.”

“More?”

She disappeared into the kitchen again and came back with marshmallows and a torch.

“Now you are just going over the top.”

She placed the marshmallows on top and toasted them with the flame, “A challenge is a challenge.”

She sat down next to me picking up her mug and taking a long audible sip, “Yum.”

The scent from both mugs were filled my nose making me really thirsty. I looked down at my mug a she watched, “You are evil.”

She just giggled taking another sip. S~ᴇaʀᴄh the Findɴovel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

I took a sip.

Dang this is really god.

She let out a giant yell, “Ha! I won!”

I smiled and took another sip and got a weird feeling.

This coffee tastes oddly familiar. I don’t know why but it’s like I have tasted it before.
