The Journal of Memories
A Flowery Sundress

We drove for about twenty more minutes and now came up to Central Park. We were trying to stay on the down low from the Guards but it was kind of hard considering the giant mob behind us.

We just have to hang on for a few more minutes then we are going to be at my dad’s lab.

I turned off my bike looking over at Luna, “We should stay quiet and walk it for a bit.”

She nodded looking back at everyone, “Everyone stay as quiet as you can.”

Their murmuring quieted down but we were still very noticeable.

I sighed, “They can probably hear us coming from a mile away.”

Luna shook her head, “We will be fine. Don’t loose hope now.”

She went to the other side of the bike, helping me push it down the road. Everything was quiet with only the noise of footsteps against the asphalt. Suddenly, a can was thrown out into the street from the alley.

What is that?

Luna looked at it too but then it exploded creating a loud bang that echoed against the buildings. There was a bright light that flashed after the explosion, causing us to close our eyes. More cans were thrown and exploded, leaving thick smoke in the air.

“Get down!,” I held Luna close to me.

I took a breath in but began choking and coughing. My eyes were burning. Luna was doing the same and was trying to crawl over to the mob that was scared and huddling up together. I grabbed her pulling to me, “Luna... stay close.”

She tried wiggling from my grip, “We have to help them. They are scared.”

We began hearing gunshots and saw rubber bullets flying everywhere. I heard Guards running towards us.

“Get them contained!”

I pulled Luna closer to the bike, “We have to get out of here...”

She nodded, yelling back to the mob, “Get out of here! Run!”

Most of them obeyed and took off running, while others were on the ground, injured.

We both got back on my bike and I started it up, driving away as fast as possible. It was hard to see and even breathe. I was still choking and coughing up an unknown gas. I almost hit a Guard driving through the smoke. Luna had pulled out the gun and shooting in any direction that a shot came from. Suddenly, someone grabbed me, pulling me off my bike. I hit the ground rolling and bruising up my body.

I heard Luna stopping the bike, “Ben!”

I was seeing stars as I tried to get up.

I must have hit my head pretty hard.

Luna was at my side, helping me get up from the ground, “Ben! What happened? Who pulled you off?”

Luna got hit over the head with something and leaned into me for support. I could tell she was seeing stars too. I looked into the smoke, trying to see who was attacking us. I pulled up Luna with me, “We have to get back to the bike and get out of here. Are you good to walk?”

She slowly nodded, gritting her teeth together, “I am used to headaches by now.”

Suddenly I saw someone running towards us. I made both of us duck down as something flew over our heads. I looked up seeing Dr. Simon holding a baseball bat in his hands, “Oh would you look what I have here?... Two criminals.”

I smirked, “I should have known you were a crook... why did I let myself trust you?”

Luna chuckled, “Did you enjoy how we left Dr. Cory in your lab?”

He had a creepy smile, “Oh yes, that was a good trick you played but luckily I know how to reverse it... he should be waking up soon.”

So he does have something to do with the gas.

Luna stood up straight, spitting blood out of her mouth, “Of course you would put the blame of your twisted gas onto us.”

He laughed, “My twisted gas? You don’t know what you are talking about little girl. This gas isn’t mine. I did help make it but I am not the true owner... Now I would love to chat but let’s get down to business.”

He lunged forward, swinging his bat at us. Luna and I jumped back out of it’s way. He swung again and again. Still missing us. Luna looked over next to us and nudged my shoulder as we ducked another swung. I looked to where she was looking and saw the gun laying there. She pulled me close to her, “Distract him and I will get it.”

Dr. Simon still was taking swings. He got lucky and hit me in the side. Luna saw her chance and jumped for the gun. He noticed what she was doing and swung at her. I jumped in front of her, taking the hit and falling to the ground. Luna had enough time to grab the gun and took aim. Dr. Simon was just about to hit me in the head but Luna shot at him. He moved out of the way. Luna tried shooting again but it didn’t do anything. She threw it to the ground, “Empty.”

She ran over helping me up off the ground. Dr. Simon was back on us laughing, “Looks like you two are out of luck, this time.”

We backed up again while he swung at us. We backed up so much that we hit a wall. He let out an evil laugh, “Aww... I got you two cornered, that is too bad.”

He was about to take another swung but someone attacked him. He screamed as the person scratched them and punched. He struggled against them but he was out of luck. They knocked him out with one more punch and stood looking at us. Their hair was a mess and they were wearing a flowery sundress.

They look so familiar.

Shock.

I felt a tear run from my eye.

“Mom?...”
