Chapter 6

I haven't seen Heidi in over 48 hours and my body is aching to see her. That one kiss was not enough to last this long! I need to find her before I go insane.

I told Erik about Heidi. It was an awkward conversation.

“How did it feel when you kissed Heidi?” He asked.

“Uh- like magic? If felt… I don’t know! It felt like my body woke up… I can’t even explain what I felt,” I finished, feeling my entire body flush in embarrassment.

“Huh… And have you ever felt this with anyone else?” He asked again, like he had some hidden knowledge that I didn’t.

“No? What are you getting at?”

“Okay, what do you feel when Nichole threatens her?” He completely ignored my last question.

“I want to rip her apart with my teeth!” I roar.

“One more question… Do you feel a pull to this girl?” He finally asks as he looks me directly in the eye.

“Yes! It’s like my whole world revolves around her, and if she isn’t with me I’m completely lost!” I sigh in frustration, because that is exactly what I’m feeling now!

“Heidi must be your mate,” he said thoughtfully. “I didn’t even know dragons could have a human mate…”

“Wait! A mate?” I am really confused, because this was not something that had ever come up before.

“Well, I figured you would just fall in love and get married like a normal person because there are no more dragons left. But like all shifters, you were blessed with a mate, apparently. A soul-mate,” he says like he’s talking about what he wants for lunch.

“I have a soul mate?” I all but roar. “Why didn’t you ever tell me about this stuff?!”

“Like I said, I didn’t think you would ever find one.”

Like that was some kind of excuse.

“Tell me what I need to know!” I demand.

“Well, obviously you will feel very protective of her. She is the love of your life. No other woman will compare to the love you receive from her. Normally there is an instant attraction, and you will need to be with her constantly. Your dragon will want to claim her. Your strength will give her strength-”

“Wait a minute! You said my dragon will want to claim her?” I cut him off because that’s all my brain can comprehend at the moment. Something deep in me wanted this, but I didn’t even understand what it meant.

Erik clears his throat and looks a little sheepish, but answers my question. “Your dragon will claim her body in bed, and mark her. It’s a soft bite, just enough to pierce her skin, between the shoulder and neck, and your mark will manifest as… Sort of a tattoo. They are each unique and very beautiful. It will show that she is spoken for to all the shifter world,” he explains.

The thought of having Heidi in my bed turned me on. I wanted that more than anything else. I wanted to feel her soft body against mine. I wanted to make love to her nice and slow. I wanted to worship her body… And I really wanted to bite into her soft skin, calming it as my own, just like I was supposed to.

This is something I wish my father could have explained to me.

I know what I have to do. I have to find her, even if Nichole thinks she can keep me from her, I will destroy her. Even if it means she will expose me, I need to find my sweet Heidi.

“Erik, there is a huge chance when I find Heidi, Nichole will expose me. They will take me from her, and if that’s the case, I need you to protect Heidi just like you’ve protected me and my parents,” I beg him.

“Yes my prince,” he bows to me. “I will protect your princess. I promise.”

My heart is eased slightly, but now I have to go take care of Nichole.

I rush through the school doors and find her waiting for me with open arms. She even has the audacity to pull me in for a kiss, like I had never broken up with her earlier in the week in front of everyone! But I push her away, and growl at her.

If she thinks she will expose me, I will beat her to the punch.

My eyes flash red and my teeth turn to razor points as I roar at this roach in front of me.

“Don’t ever touch me again!” I roar, shaking the hallway.

Students scatter like rats on a sinking ship. I can smell the stink of their fear.

Little do they know they have no reason to fear me, only this blond pile of filth quivering on the floor should fear me.

“Where is she?” I bellow.

“Why do you still want that ugly wench when you could have me?” she whimpers.

“Ugly?” I smirk down at her quaking form.

I bring my hand in front of my face and slowly and deliberately extend my claws, showing her just why she should shut up now.

“You think my beautiful mate is ugly, do you?” I smirk down at her and slice the skin on her face. They are shallow buts, but bleed easily enough, and they will never heal. “Now, every time you look in the mirror, you will wish you never said that. Do you think any guy will want you now?” I chuckle darkly.

Nichole shrieks as the blood drips down into her eyes.

“You really should have just let me go, you slut. But you couldn’t get over the embarrassment of a rejection. Now you will know what rejection really feels like when every single student runs from your monstrous face.”

With that I turn and push through the doors.

Once I’m outside, I shift. I don’t care anymore. I need to find her, and if I had any chance at finding my sweet angel, it would be with my dragon.

He has been chomping at the bit to be let out and find his little mate.

Mate… The word resonated through my body as I spread my wings and let him take control. We soar through the sky as we follow this pull to my sweet Heidi. I can smell her sweet sweetpeas even from this distance. It is faint but it is there.

We follow it over the tops of the trees.

And then I see her.

Jason won’t let her leave that cave to come to me.

I let out a warning roar for Jason to leave if he doesn’t want to end up scraps for some scavenger.

“Jericho!” my sweet Heidi’s voice finds me in the wind. It felt like a balm to my frayed nerves. A gentle caress or a sweet kiss. I needed more, though. I could never get enough of Heidi.

Then I dive down.
