“I don’t know what my parents would have done, they are dead…dead because of power hungry traitors like you. I won’t put my family and pack at risk like that.” I take a step back from him, my body was trembling from the anger that he dared to mention my own parents at a time like this. That he was using their death, their cold callus murders, as a way to change my resolve. I knew exactly what they would have done, how I was raised.

I take a minute to think things through, to really think why Dad would have done. A deep sigh escapes me when I realise I am cut from the same cloth.

This is your second chance Renard, don’t make me regret it.” I sneer at him, something inside of me was cursing at me for being stupid but I was staying true to my heart, to my upbringing.

He was treacherous and I knew I could never trust him, but I had to go through the motions, to prove that he had a chance.

“My Beta here will put you in your own holding facilities until we decide on the right pack for you.” I turn to Noah who nods at me, he knows me, my actions aren’t a surprise to him or my warriors.

I turn to find them all looking at me with complete shock upon their faces. They believe I am making a mistake… they would have killed him by now.

I start to walk towards Reuben when I see his eyes widen at something behind me.

I hear a gasp of breath behind me, before I hear a monstrous growl escape from Reuben.

I move quickly, my eyes darting to Renard as he pulls a gun out of the hem of his trousers. He aims at me, my hands push through skin and muscle until I feel his heart wrapped around my hand. I reactive aggressive movement.

A nudge to the side of me forcibly knocks me to the ground as a loud bang indicates that the bullet has been fired from the gun.

It all happens so quickly that I realise as I land harshly on to the ground, I’m concerned about hurting the baby.

But hands have wrapped around my waist and taken the brunt of the fall from me, a scent enveloping around me informs me that Reuben has sheltered my body repositioning himself under me, so that I land on him.

I turn to find Renard’s shocked pain stricken face before his already crouched lifeless body collapses to the ground.
