Reuben was preoccupied, Libby clearly the last person on his mind right now. I’ll have to do things so try out him.

“Well I was just passing by. I’ll be in touch soon.” I turn and head towards my own car. Reuben had a lot on his plate right now, he didn’t need to know about my shit.

Reuben POV

I travelled to the Red Stone pack, Evelyn and the twins remaining back at Silver Moons. They were well protected, Nate remaining but setting up a meeting with Anwir.

Seeing Pierce was unexpected. He’s a good man, he wanted to check on me. He forgets his Father was a better man than mine.

Even a pig would have been a better father.

But I can’t have him stay, not when I need to talk to Anwir. It potentially involves him too.

I walk Anwir into my office, I don’t like outsiders in my home but I can’t risk our conversation being out in the open. He removes his sunglasses and it is then that I realise I hadn’t felt his intense gaze, the sunglasses seemed to act as a barrier.

“Do I need to put them back on?” He asks, almost sounding amused.

“No.”

“You say that, but we’ve been sat here for ten minutes already, you just gazing into my eyes as if you have the hots for me or something.” He chuckles.

“Watch your mouth pup.” I blink my eyes, pulling my vision away from his.

My eyes stinging from being opened for too long, he was right…Something about his eyes had me locked in place. S~ᴇaʀᴄh the FindNøvᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“How did you know Odin would be in the caves?” I don’t have time to waste, I need answers now.

“I know a lot of things Alpha.” He was deciding to remain cryptic as always. I pull open my desk drawer and bring out my pack of cigarettes. I had actually been doing quite well. But needs must.

I need something to take the chill off from his presence.

I offer him one and he takes it. Placing it to his lips and pausing before reaching for the lighter.

“He’s dead.”

“So, I’ve heard.”

His short responses were starting to infuriate me.

“You need to give me more.” I tut, only just keeping my wolf’s anger at bay.

“I’m just very good at finding people.” He shrugs, dragging on his cigarette, his eyes taking on a brighter red tone with every drag.

As if fire is feeding fire.

“I need you to find somebody for me!”

“I thought you’d send me on a more challenging mission Alpha.” His eyes turn to my office window, acting as if our conversation was boring to him.

“This person is off grid, technically doesn’t exist…anymore.”

“Anymore? What do you want me to do once I find them?”

“Nothing, I want you to report it in to me or Nate. No one else.”

“What do I get? Are you funding this expedition of mine?”

“I can do, what’s the cost?” I pull out my second drawer, throwing a wad of cash on to my desk.

“I don’t want money.”

“What do you want then?”

“I’m not sure yet, perhaps we can decide on that once I have found the person? Gives me time to consider my options.” He smirks, his arrogance even stronger than mine.

“Timeline?”

“No timeline, just find her.” I hand him the folder full of the information he will require. Not an awful lot to go on. But something tells me that it won’t hinder his ability to find her.

He opens the folder, his eyes scaling over the information and pictures.

“I’m intrigued…and a little excited.” He says earning a growl from me.

“She won’t play by the rules, she’ll try and run.”

“I like a chase.”

“She has a mate.” I growl, my fist banging on the desk.

“Marked?”

“No…”

“Then I still have time….”
