Detective Hamilton sighed and put his phone on his desk. He had really hoped that Carver would have answered his phone. Detective Hamilton looked at the investigation board. A picture of a car at the closest intersection to the library was on the board below the pictures of Tora and Molly. It hadn’t been easy to get the license plate number even with the tech team enlarging the photo on one of their computers, there was even a chance it wasn’t the entire correct one, but what they had found had led to a car that Elizabeth owned. It was an exact make, year and color.

Detective Hamilton had hoped that Carver could explain where Elizabeth was. He believed that Elizabeth was connected to the disappearances of at least three of his missing people. He wasn’t sure about Molly’s disappearance or her mother’s murder. Detective Hamilton looked at the far right of the investigation board. He had listed both Molly’s mother and Skye as the murder victims because of how similar the two murders were.

“Any luck with your friend?” Rivers asked as he sat down across from Detective Hamilton.

Hamilton shook his head. “Carver isn’t answering his phone.” He replied before he looked at River. He didn’t want to add Carver’s name to the suspect part of the board but Carver had asked to be updated on the case and now he wasn’t replying.

“Maybe whoever got to Nichallo, Cassidy and the two kids decided to take Carver?” Aisha asked as she joined them. “After all, if we’re right and the guy who murdered Carver’s wife is the same one who killed Molly’s mother and abducted at least two of our missing people that we know of, maybe they decided to take Carver too.”

The way Aisha saw it, if she was trying to take care of any loose ends to prevent anyone from finding anything to prove she was a killer, she would want to take out every person connected to either murdered victim. It was the best thing she could think of.

“Yeah, how about we leave the crazy guessing and story telling to Narcotics when they have to create a story for their undercover agents?” Hamilton asked before he pointed at the investigation board. “Because we have two people who were for sure abducted, two murder victims, two kids who are who knows where, one suspect who we know is connected to at least four of them in the wind and possibly another suspect.”

Rivers was about to say something when his phone rang. He answered it. “Hey Tommy, now isn’t a good time.” He frowned. “Wait, are you sure?” With his phone still held up to his ear, he went over to the investigation board and moved Carver’s picture so it was between the abducted part and the suspect part, causing Aisha and Hamilton to look at each other. “Did you try calling Carver? He didn’t answer?” Rivers looked at Hamilton. “I’ll let you know if we hear from him.” He hung up.

“What was that about?” Hamilton asked as he crossed his arms over his chest. He wasn’t sure he was going to like this.

“That was my brother.” Rivers replied. “Apparently Carver’s car was found behind Nichallo’s shop and the tow company called Carver’s work place to see if Carver was there.”

“Do they know how long it’s been there?” Hamilton asked. He gave Aisha a look.

“They found it a couple of hours ago.” Rivers replied.

Aisha went to the board and looked at the timeline they had established. “So five days ago, Nichallo went missing, two days after, Cassidy goes missing, the next day, Carver asks for time off and supposedly leaves the city.” She wrote that last bit down on the timeline as she said that.

“Between that and now, Molly’s mom gets murdered, Molly gets abducted with Elizabeth’s car being seen close to the last place Molly was seen and now Carver’s car turns up abandoned behind Nichallo’s shop.” Hamilton said. He knew that there was something that they were missing.

“And this is all somehow connected to Carver’s wife’s murder years ago.” Rivers said, pointing to the picture of Skye.

The three looked at their investigation board in silence as they tried to think of a possible explanation. They knew that Carver wouldn’t kill his own wife and that Elizabeth hadn’t been in the city during the time of Skye’s murder and they were certain that the same killer had come back and had killed Molly’s mother.

“What if we’re looking at this all wrong?” Aisha asked, causing her two partners to look at her. “What if the murderer didn’t kidnap Tora or Molly?” She sat down on Hamilton’s desk. “What if we’re looking at a team of criminals?”

Rivers and Hamilton looked at each other. They hadn’t considered that. The scenes at Molly’s home, Skye and Carver’s old home, Cassidy’s home and Nichallo’s home had all looked the same to them except that two of them didn’t have dead bodies.

“But what about Elizabeth’s car being seen near the library where Molly was last at?” Rivers asked. “What connects Molly and her mom to the others?”

“Rivers is right.” Hamilton said. “We all know that Carver, Elizabeth and our two missing adults know each other and and have been friends for years. We can assume Tora knows all four of them as well. It would be easy for Elizabeth to abduct Tora. If, just a theory here, Carver was looking into his wife’s murder since it was the anniversary and he saw the same things we did at Nichallo’s shop, Elizabeth could have kidnapped him as well.”

“That still doesn’t explain Molly or her mother.” Rivers said. “If Elizabeth is our kidnapper and killer, why would she take Molly from the library? Where would she even be able to hold that many kidnapped victims without being worried about someone finding them long enough to go to Molly’s home and kill her mom?”

“Aisha, try to see if Elizabeth had any connection to Molly or her mom.” Hamilton said as he picked up his phone. “River, get search warrants for the warehouse districts. Start with the ones that have been abandoned the longest. If Elizabeth is going to keep abducted people together in one spot, the abandoned warehouses would be a good place to start.”

“What about you?” Aisha asked. She could tell that Hamilton was going somewhere.

“I’m going to Carver’s home.” Hamilton replied. “I think there might be something there that we missed.” He just hoped that his friend was another missing person and not a kidnapper or killer.
