The Little Fairy
Chapter 19

A few months have gone by and it's now the new year. We're back in town getting ready to go to Washington D.C. in a few weeks for the final rally. I've had to use my power at every event and we've had a full house, and we had to book larger venues. It felt nice to be making a difference, but at what cost?

"So, I was thinking." Sarah snapped me out of my thoughts, bringing me back to the present. We were sitting at the table for lunch, Don had made his special bacon soup. "We should update the slideshow since we're going to be in the capital."

I nodded but didn't answer her question directly. "I think I'm going to take a walk." I stood up from my chair, patting Coon on the head as I passed. The old man seemed to be slower since our return. I don't doubt that Rich took good care of him in our absence, he just seemed off.

I made my way between the tight-knit trees and found the old oak that still stood tall and proud amongst the younger ones. I looked up at its bare leaves, the sky peeking through the thinner branches. I felt a familiar vibration, the hum of energy from my home beckoned me to return. I knelt down to look at the little hole at the base of the tree and saw the veil shimmering lightly. I reached out and touched it, sparks running through my body as my fingers passed through.

I awoke surrounded by the 6 elders, disdain, and anger written all over their faces. "Rise, Kreya." One said, cloaked in a bright blue robe, age barely making its appearance on her features.

"What am I doing back here? Is this another vision?" I rose to my feet, I was much smaller than them and barely made it over their hip level.

The man cloaked in red snickered, folding his hands behind his back. "No, you are really home, little fairy." He stepped forward and a familiar face was illuminated by the light of the torches. "And we need to have a few words with you."

"What is this about? I want to go home." I spun around, taking in each person that surrounded me.

"You'll be able to return to your mother, father, and brother as soon as you answer our questions." A woman in orange answered, her voice was smooth and comforting.

"My..." I paused, my eyes widening. "I can see my family?"

"As long as you're honest with your answers, you may return to your parents." Blue cloak answered.

"What about Don and Sarah?" Anger was rising in my chest, I could feel it starting to bubble and fester at the surface.

"You will not be returning to the human world," Green cloak finally chimed in, his features were much like red cloaks, wrinkled and aged.

"What do you mean I'm not returning? They're family, I still have work to do!" My anger was at an all-time high, my face was turning flush and my vision was getting blurry.

"We're well aware of what you've been doing and you need to stop. Using your power against humans is strictly forbidden and you've been doing it for months!" Yellow coat stepped forward, inching closer with every word until she was in my face. "You're not even supposed to have them. How do you still have power?" "I don't know! I know less than you do." They all returned to their respected chairs high above so they could look down on anyone to who they were talking; I'm assuming to seem more menacing. "I'm not going to stop using my power, I'm making a difference in the human world. You should be happy I'm doing something, they're ruining mother Earth!"

"We're well aware of what humans have been doing, but we are in no danger. Once the humans have destroyed themselves, we will then come back in and restore the land."

I was finally seeing red, hatred, and anger exploding out of me in a fury so large it rippled around me. "I am not going to sit by and let them ruin EVERYTHING!" I felt a sharp pain in my back and was soon shadowed by giant, navy wings that were speckled with white dots, and a large half-circle that joined together to make a whole when I joined the tips of my wings together, mimicking the night sky.

The elders were knocked to the ground, some stood after the fall to help the oldest some made their way to me, ready to attack. Another powerful wave rippled out of me as they got closer. "You lost your power over me as soon as you sent me out to die in the human world." I inched closer to them, my wings much larger than them. "I will not kill you, but know this. I will do what I need to protect my homes and my families, and there is nothing you can do to stop me." I turned on my heels and proudly walked out, making my way to my parents and my brother to say one final goodbye.
