The Little Fairy
Chapter 23

It was a silent car ride to the airport, it was also 2 in the morning. Sarah was fast asleep in the front seat, I was wide awake in the back. Don had slept after Rich left up until midnight so that he wouldn't be tired on the drive. I watched the scenery turn from farmlands to barren, trying to count the number of cows to keep myself awake.

"You know, you don't have to stay awake every time we fly. You're allowed to sleep." Don peered at me through the rearview mirror sporadically.

"I know, I think it's just nerves," I said, losing my cow count. "I know we've been flying often but it's still a bit nerve-wracking thinking about going up in the air."

"You have wings," He said, pointedly.

"I haven't used them yet! and it's not like I can go as high up as airplanes." I crossed my arms over my chest and leaned my head against the window. All the cows had disappeared meaning we were about 10 minutes away from the airport. They didn't like the sound and seemed to like to stay away.

Don chuckled and turned up the radio, Led Zepplin pounded through the stereos. I don't know how it didn't wake Sarah up, but I was glad to have something other than silence.

We arrived in Washington DC around 8 am. I don't think I'll ever understand why we had to leave so early in the morning, but it didn't matter, we were here. There were people buzzing about the rally on the plane. Luckily we were in secluded first class seats so no one could tell it was us.

The airport was completely packed. all planes into DC from all over the world were completely booked. I'm pretty sure the place was well over max capacity, and they were all here for me. We had to wear disguises to not be bombarded by fans and press, and I don't think I liked all the attention even though this is what I wanted.

Sarah noticed me deep in thought and nudged me. "What are you thinking about?" We were standing by the conveyor for our luggage.

"It's just a lot of people. and millions more in there homes. I'm just nervous." I smiled weakly, seeing our luggage come from around the corner.

"It's going to be just fine. They're here because they believe in your cause, Kreya." She paused to grab her suitcases, hauling them off the belt with a grunt. Don gave me a half smile as Sarah babbled on about the day's events. The rally was in 2 days and we had a lot of preparation to do. Sarah had already ordered and Uber before we boarded the plane so they would be outside waiting for us when we got outside.

"I'm surprised you even got a hotel room. The place has been packed for weeks." The Uber driver said, trying to make conversation.

"We had to book a expensive room cause all the cheaper ones were all taken up." Don half-lied. We did book the most expensive room, but not because we didn't have a choice.

"Eesh, I'm sorry to hear that." We had been stuck in traffic for about an hour, barely making it a few miles from the airport.

"Is it always this busy?" I managed to say, trying to see some monuments over some of the large trucks that surrounded us.

"Only on holidays or important events like this one." He winked at me through the rearview window. There's no way he knew who we were.

I nodded and traffic finally picked up. We reached our destination in another 30 minutes after we had gotten away from the main roads of excessive traffic. Don gave the driver a 5-star and a decent tip on the app, tapping the top of the car before he drove away.

I looked up at the large hotel. It looked like it was just built, large glass windows loomed down on us. A young doorman held the door open for us as we approached, giving us a nod as we passed.
