328: VEIL OF SUSPICION

ARIEL’S POV

Elizabeth continued to weep, and so did the others. I sat close to her for minutes, soothing her, until I finally got up and went to meet the others.

The door opened, and Andre was the first to arrive. He scanned the faces of everyone, and then his eyes were firm on me. “Ariel, I need to speak with you.”

I took a deep breath and followed Andre out of the mansion. The two of us stood close to each other, looking around the beautiful garden and the wonderful estate.

“I heard your brother is dead,” I said, not looking at Andre. I still had my eyes fixed on the surroundings and the things ahead of me.

“Yeah, I know,” he said under his breath. “It’s such a sad thing, isn’t it?”

I took a deep breath, not giving him an answer. I knew where he was going.

Andre turned to me. “Aren’t you going to give me an answer?”

“What do you want me to say?”

“I want you to tell me how you feel about Mason’s death.”

I shook my head. “Andre, please, I don’t want to talk about this right now.”

“Why Ariel? Aren’t you happy that Mason is dead? Aren’t you happ. is no longer alive to terrorize your life?”

“I’m not going to say anything, André. But I’m sorry for your loss.”

“That’s not the answer I was looking for.”

the monster

“I know, but your brother died. You should be mourning right now, not bombarding

me with all these questions.”

“I’m just trying to know your feelings, since this was what you wanted.”

“Hold on, André. Are you trying to accuse me of killing your brother?”

328 VEL OF SUSPICION

“I never said that.”

“But that was what you were insinuating, am I not right?” With all these goddamn questions?”

“No, I just wanted to know how you feel. If you’re happy or grieved by his death,

“I’m not going to lie to you, André. I’m not grieving one.bit. But I’m not also going to start dancing around. Now, if you don’t mind, I’ll be leaving. Take care of yourself, and

don’t think too much.”

I walked to my car, and when I burst in, I glanced at Andre. He wasn’t staring at me back but surely thinking about something. Probably the conversation we just had

about his brother. It was about his brother either way.

After some minutes of driving, I parked my car along the road, close to an eatery. I

was kind of hungry, and I needed to eat something for breakfast.

But I still sat in my car, leaning back on the driver’s seat. I let out a deep sigh, thinking about the conversation I had with Andre earlier. It was a mess, I’d say.

I mean, Andre was not himself. With the way he acted back there, he was not the

nice André I used to know. He was kind of irritating, and I didn’t like that at all.

st wanted to

I didn’t want to see it if he possessed little of that attitude. That was why I kept the

conversation short. I didn’t want any dispute to arise between u

maintain the relationship we shared–that imposing friendship.

I wouldn’t blame André, though. He had every reason to think that I had murdered his

brother. After all, I had told him that I wasn’t going to let Mason get away with his evil

deeds. But I didn’t even do anything right here. It was all karma. Karma struck him pretty hard.

And with all these thoughts, my stomach growled. I looked down at that belly, shaking my head as I suspired.

Great. Just what do you get for ditching breakfast? Now I needed to get something

to eat.

329 VEIL OF SUSPICION

I set my eyes back on the restaurant, watching as different people stepped foot inside the building. Right at the entrance, a little boy was crying like crazy.

His mother held his hand, trying to calm him down, but he chose to be stubborn. He

even threw away the toy she had given him. The boy was really upset. I wondered what they could have done to him to provoke him.

Little kids! When they’re calm, they’re like angels dwelling in heaven. But when they’re mad, they’re the demons for you.

“Thomas, will you behave?” The little boy’s mother barked at him, but it was just in

vain. The little kid seemed determined to frustrate the hell out of her.

I got out of my car and watched them. The boy ran off, and his mother began to chase him, calling his name. This caused me to laugh softly.

Anyway, I turned around and walked inside the restaurant. I found myself at a table

and settled down there. It was actually a beautiful

cation, and I wondered why I had

not been to this place before.

While I remained seated, various thoughts began to surface in my mind. All

concerning Mason’s death.

The question was, who else would want to kill him?

I should have been number one on his list, but apparently, I was too slow to execute

that. Luke could always be an option, but it was definitely not him

And who again? Who else was aware of the noxious deeds committed by a man

before his final call to rest?

Oh, sorry, he was going straight to hell. There was definitely no rest for him in that

section.

Someone else popped up in my mind. Someone else could also be responsible for

the death of Mason.

Laura!

There is no doubt when I say this: Laura might actually be the one who ended the life

of that scumbag. She wanted revenge for Lukel as much as I did, and she was

serious about the whole killing.

So, she was the one on my mind right now. And maybe paying her a little visit might not actually be a bad idea.

“Excuse me, miss. Can I have your order?” The waitress approached me.

After staring at her and being dragged from my deep thoughts, I faked a laugh before giving the waitress an answer: “Yeah, sure.”

Breakfast was over, and it was really delicious. I guessed the restaurant was going to

be a regular location from now on.

I was sitting in my car, making my way to Laura’s house. I wanted to ask her if she had sent Mason to hell. There was no way she was going to lie to me. That, I knew

for sure.

I finally arrived at her mansion; it took a few minutes before I left my car.

I walked to the mansion, and one of her maids was standing at the front, so I didn’t

have to knock before I entered.

“Is Laura home?” I asked the maid.

She scratched her head, replying, “I think so. She must probably be in her room

upstairs.”

I gave her a skeptical look. “Are you sure?”

She nodded. “Yes, ma’am. I’m sure.”

Honestly, her tone showed that she was not certain about that response. But I had to

go there anyway. I mean, it was Saturday. She wouldn’t be at work.

“Okay, thank you.” I smiled at the maid, and she quickly walked away.

I went to Laura’s room upstairs. The door was slightly open, and taking a deep

breath, I opened it fully.

“Laura, we need to…”

The moment my eyes caught what I shouldn’t have seen, I trailed off.  Sᴇaʀch Thᴇ ꜰindNʘvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.
