I don’t know when Zander came back to the room. It was probably some time at night when I was asleep. I woke up to his arm around me and I was reduced to a blushing mess. He asked what was wrong but I made up some excuse about feeling hot and he promised to have all the heaters were turned off in every room.
Just as he got up from the bed, Helena walked into the room. I couldn’t help but wonder what the scene in front of her looked like. Zander shirtless and me in my obscene nightgown and I found myself blushing again. She narrowed her eyes at me and instructed me to change for the workout.
When we got to the training field; we warmed up by running some laps and stretching. I expected her to instruct me into doing the same workouts as yesterday but instead she said we were going to be working on my punches/
It took almost two minutes for me to even get the correct stance and the correct way to fold my hand for a punch. Apparently the thumb goes over the fist and not. under.
I loved having Helena as a teacher. She was very patient with me and knew my limits. She knew when I still had a little gas left to push through and she knew when enough was enough. She knew how to home my skills to my advantage and I loved her for it.
I heard grunting and turned to see Lucas and Zander sparring just like yesterday. They were both sweaty and shirtless.
“Focus,” she growled and I flushed pink, “You would be dead if this was a fight.”
“I’m sorry,” I shook the image of Zander’s sweaty abs out of my face, “I’ll focus better.”
“What is wrong with you?” she asked and I shrugged.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
She put down the punching gloves she was holding and gave me a look, “Don’t lie

She looked like she wanted to argue but then she took in the environment and I think she realized that it would be better if I spoke to her later about it so she nodded. She lifted the punching gloves and we were about to continue with the training when Alex approached us.
“You seem to have made some improvements if you’ve graduated to punches,” she mocked with a smile, “What would you say Helena?”
“I think she has some potential.”
“Then you wouldn’t mind fighting with me, would you Lyla?” she raised her voice this time and I swear the entire field went silent; even Zander and Lucas stopped their spar.
I looked around the field and saw different expressions varying from amused to excited to judgmental. I turned to Helena for support but her expression was carefully blank. She wanted me to make the decision by myself and deal with the consequences whatever they may be.
“I guess we could spar.”
A smile took over her features, “Great,” she dragged me into the middle of the field, “You can fight in your human or wolf form and there are two rounds. Loser is determined when someone cannot get up after five seconds. Do you understand?”
I nodded and she snapped her fingers. Some of the guards came to clear the space for us and mark the demarcation for where out makeshift ring would be. Everyone had stopped to watch and that made me anxious because I knew I had practically zero possibility of winning.
As soon as the whistle sounded, she attacked me with a flurry of moves. I barely had time to block before the air was knocked out of my lungs and I landed on my back.
The referee started the count and I managed to get to my feet at three. She gave me a wicked smile as she shifted and rushed at me with her wolf. I was thrown back and slammed into a tree so badly that starts danced around my vision.

If I wasn’t in so much pain, I would have taken some time to admire her wolf. It was a russet color and it was of fairly average size. Her ivy green eyes were retained in the form and I saw the amusement in them.
When I fell, I couldn’t- wouldn’t rise before the count of five. She won the first
round.
I caught Helena’s eye and she had a look of pity and sympathy on her face. Lucas was sporting the very same expression but it was Zander that I was focused on. His face was carefully blank and devoid of emotion. I would have given anything to know what he thought of me in that moment but it would have been easier to read a brick wall.
“We can stop if you want.” Alex teased and that was all the motivation I needed to push to my feet.
Everything from my back to my neck ached but I wasn’t going to give her the satisfaction of giving up. I heard people whisper and snicker amongst themselves.
“Don’t worry, I won’t shift into my wolf again.”
This time when the whistle sounded, I was prepared for the flurry of attacks and I managed to block a lot of them. She tried to kick me but I caught her leg and pushed her backwards. She was caught off guard and I saw her jaw clench in
anger.
She rushed me with another set of attacks and this time her kicks connected because the air was knocked out of me. I was able to catch myself before I fell on my ass.
I knew I couldn’t beat her in my human form and I hated the fact that I knew I was about to be embarrassed in front of everything. I knew she would use it as part of the reasons why I shouldn’t be Zander’s mate. I don’t know where the energy or the rage built up in me but I charged her.
By the time I pushed her and landed on the floor, I saw white paws instead of hands. I looked up to find her and saw that she had slammed into a tree so hard that it took a dip. Medics rushed over to her and I was staring in shocked.
I found the faces of Helena, Lucas and Zander. The latter was wearing a look of pride while the former were shocked although Lucas also looked amused.

People started cheering and clapping and I let out a yelp that made them laugh.
“Okay people; show’s over.” Helena said and they all frowned and gathered their
stuff.
Within a few minutes they were cleared out of the field. Helena turned to me with a
small smile.
“Good job,” she gave my fur a pat, “Now let’s work on getting you to shift back. because I’m pretty sure you don’t even know how you did it.”
She would be right because I have only shifted once and I did everything in my power to hide my wolf from everyone because I knew how weird it was to have a wolf like mine. Pure white and larger than most wolves I had seen. All I could hope was that Zander wouldn’t also think it was weird.
