The Maiden and The Four Waters
Chapter seven

Walla sat on the river’s edge. She placed her boots by her side before staring out into the water.

She listened to the sounds of nature.

Walla carefully dipped her feet into the calm water. She couldn’t see the sand beneath. Her heart raced as she gently swayed her feet in the water.

The sounds of nature helped try to keep her calm.

Walla watched as the water stopped moving. She knew what was about to happen, she wasn’t sure if she’d still be pulled down if her feet barely touched the depths of the water.

She kept her focus on the water, expecting something.

The water began to gently ripple as it began to continue its movements down the riverbed.

Walla seemed confused. She laid back on the riverbed. She needed to protect her town, but she couldn’t figure out a way. She needed to respect the legend of the four waters, and she needed to take caution with the warning Crowe and Melana gave.

Walla had only heard the stories, stories of how the four waters came to be; developing a taste of staying under water until land became a distance memory. How they trained the underwater creatures to not betray the four waters; the trick was to be the dominating ones while respecting the creatures around them. How the four waters shouldn’t be feared, they come with wonders and prevent dangers happening to their trusted ones.

“HEY!” Walla sat up as she felt water splash over her “Mariana” She smiled seeing the water maiden.

“Walla” Mariana rested her body on the low-level riverbed, feeling the water gently splash around her “It’s nice in here.”

Walla watched the water glistened on Mariana’s body, watching as she tried to stay wet “I’ve been instructed to stay out of the water.”

Mariana pouted “you said you were king. Do kings listen to others?”

Mariana’s eyes widen. She never meant any harm to Walla; she was just curious by the human woman called Walla.

Walla watched Mariana, watching how the young woman stayed in the water barely swaying in her spot “Is it true that you’re not quite human but not quite mermaid?”

Mariana didn’t understand the question as she blinked at Walla “I am what the King calls a wonder to creation.” She beams with pride before ducking under the water.

Walla watched cautiously as she tried to spot Mariana in the water, she smiled as she noticed a small splash from a quick whip of the bottom of Mariana’s skirt.

Walla raised to her feet, she watched as water gently swayed over her feet before returning her gaze to the water as another small splash from a quick whip of the bottom of Mariana’s skirt appears.

Both woman were curious with each other through openly neither admitted it.
