Chapter 24

When Melissa finished speaking, she saw Lisa descending the stairs, followed by Leonard. Her husband was silent. David realized he could not deduce Lisa by common sense.

“Where’s Jeffrey and Michelle?” Leonard asked after taking his seat.

Melissa glanced at Lisa, wiping her hands with a warm towel, and responded oddly, “Michelle went to her mother’s house. Jeffrey called to say she’ll be staying there temporarily.”

Leonard rolled his eyes at Lisa. “Incredible. Michelle has been with us for decades, and it’s the first time she’s gone to her mother’s house out of anger.”

“Shouldn’t I also go back to my mother’s house in anger?” Lisa’s eyes were bright yet confused as she stared at Leonard. “I should be angry enough to return to my mother’s house, but you took away my luggage instead.”

Leonard’s anger started to flare up again.

Melissa felt her recently calmed anger reigniting. “Lisa, you-”

“All right, let’s just eat. Enough with the bickering!” David declared with authority. Continuing the conversation seemed to be pushing him closer to a heart attack.

After the satisfying meal, Lisa went upstairs to take a shower. Then she unpacked her clothes and brought her essentials to the

bathroom.

Leonard entered the room and frowned. “I don’t like others using my bathroom. It’s unhygienic.”

Lisa was silent but appreciated that he did not call her dirty. She puffed her cheeks and glared at Leonard as he added, “I’m a bit of a germaphobe.”

“Okay.” Lisa nodded. She also preferred things to be clean and hygienic. She was not keen on using Leonard’s bathroom either. However, no other woman would possibly bear his temperament after he divorced Lisa.

Lisa did not want to argue with him, so she took her clothes and headed to a different bathroom on the second floor to shower. When she returned, Leonard had already showered.

He wore navy blue pajamas and sat at the desk, engrossed in his work. His complexion appeared cold and pale. His pajamas casually opened neckline revealed his collarbone and Adam’s apple.

Despite Lisa’s intense dislike for him, she could not deny Leonard was the most aristocratic-looking man she had ever seen. Lisa walked over and silently put away her computer and textbooks she had pushed aside.

Leonard cast a sidelong glance at her. “Where’s the sofa?”

“Oh, your dad told the maid to move it out to prevent me from sleeping on it at night,” Lisa replied. sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ Find_Nøvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Leonard was stunned. Indeed, his father’s actions were cu nning. Leonard turned his eyes to the only bed in the room immediately after. His expression turned severe, saying, “In that case, you can sleep on the floor while I sleep on the bed.”

Lisa did not argue since she had no desire to sleep in a stranger’s bed. “Then please give me a pillow and a blanket. I can’t just sleep on the floor, can I?”

Leonard said lightly, “That’s your problem.”

His understated remark sent a chill through Lisa’s heart. Since she was still the family’s newcomer, she did not know where they kept the spare pillows and blankets. Moreover, she was exhausted from today’s shenanigans and did not want to engage in another argument with Leonard.

However, she received no concession or cooperation from him, even when she kept compromising, only his indifferent attitude. Lisa looked deeply at him before turning and walking toward the bathroom.

Leonard watched her depart, feeling an inexplicable sense of unease.
