Chapter 13

The wedding banquet did not last that long. Julian led Alexandra to offer toasts to their relatives.

After having lunch, Julian had to go back to the company to deal with some work matters. Before he left, he instructed. Marco to take Alexandra back to Ranford Mansion

Alexandra was unfamiliar with that place. So, she was escorted by a maid to the nuptial chamber.

The black, white, and grey color tones exuded a sense of simplicity and experience of a businessman in every corner of the

room.

Other than the wedding photos, there was no indication of the room being a nuptial chamber.

Because Alexandra drank two glasses of alcohol at the wedding banquet, she was feeling a little dizzy. Moreover, she had not slept well the previous night. She felt like she was walking in circles.

Taking a glance at Julian’s bed, Alexandra could imagine that it was very comfortable. However, without his permission, she did not dare to sleep on it.

In Alexandra’s eyes, Jesper had always been her invisible friend.

Alexandra looked at the white wedding dress that she wore. She felt quite disappointed thinking that she got married like this. Not a single friend congratulated her.

did not come downstairs after going up to the mom. Hence, he came up to check up on Alexandra.

As soon as he entered the room, he saw Alexandra pitifully lying on the sofa. Her body was curled up like a baby.

He covered her with a thin blanket but unexpectedly woke her up in doing so.

“Did I wake you up?” Julian asked.

Julian looked at Alexandra’s face, which seemed awake but not quite active.

Alexandra shook her head and quickly got up from the sofa to put on her shoes and stand up.

Julian said to her, “You don’t need to hurry. I have something to tell you.”

As Alexandra looked at Julian’s serious expression, she began to feel nervous.

“Could it be that he wants to reduce my salary?” Alexandra thought.

Alexandra obediently sat on the sofa. Julian stood a few steps away from her while facing her.

Alexandra rubbed her head. She still had her veil on, and she could feel that her hair was probably a mess from sleeping.

“What’s the matter?” Alexandra asked. “Haven’t we already discussed everything at the cafe previously?”

Julian did not deny it. He turned and sat on another single sofa next to Alexandra.

Before speaking. Julian stared at Alexandra for a while.

This unknown girl was now his wife.

Julian was initially reluctant to marry Alexandra. However, he eventually swallowed his pride and married Alexandra for the sake of his family. He went against his will and abandoned his original intentions.

Alexandra was a bit puzzled. “How could he change so much in just one afternoon?” she thought.

Despite feeling a little hurt, Alexandra knew she had no bargaining chip.

She nodded and looked at Julian, waiting for him to continue talking.

At this point, Julian spoke up in a cold tone. His voice was devoid of any warmth.

“Firstly, no matter how Grandma treats you, you cannot confront her directly,” said Julian. “You are not to disobey her.”

Alexandra raised her watery eyes. She had understood that it was a command.

She then felt brightened up as if she suddenly understood something.

He gave orders without any doubt or hesitation.

“He must have been coaxing me to marry him,” Alexandra thought.

The reason Julian married her was that he wanted to fulfill Josephine’s wish and that he wanted to bring a joyous occasion to his family.

She understood now.

Actually, Alexandra understood even if Julian did not bring that up.

After all, there was no reason why a shrewd businessman like Julian would treat her so well.

Alexandra was too silly and foolish. As nobody liked her or cared about her, she regarded Julian’s little acts of kindness as priceless treasures.

However, Julian uttering such remarks on the wedding night still hurt Alexandra a little.

It was like someone popped a pink bubble in her heart, leaving nothing behind.

“But what does that matter anyway?” Alexandra thought

Alexandra knew that Highclere City was not a place she would stay for a long time.

She was paid 240 thousand dollars just for playing the role of a wealthy man’s wife for a month.

She still had to rely on the wealthy Julian to realize her dream of becoming a rich woman!

After a while, Alexandra nodded and indicated that she had understood everything. “I understand, Mr. Ranford,” she said. “I promise you that I will not defy Grandma’s wishes, I will play my role well, and I won’t allow myself to fall in love with you”

When Alexandra responded to him, her eyes sparkled. They were clear, looking like a bay under the bright moonlight.

Julian did not show any expression. He nodded before standing up. “Let’s go down and have a meal,” he said. “Grandma and the others are waiting for us.”

“Okay,” Alexandra said.
