Chapter 12

Ever since the night I declared to Duncan that we were through for good, I felt his eyes from a distance. It was hard, but I had to let him go. He has tried to talk to me a few times, texted me and pulled me aside. Every time it was about my life. Last time he pulled me aside I gave my best metaphor for us. “My life is like a book; the chapter of my life with you in it is done. I am moving on and so should you.” He of course was in denial and threatened to tell other people. I played it off like no one would believe him, but to be honest that would just add more eyes on us. I told my family about it and Ace took away his memories of our powers. Everything he saw of us using our talents were gone from his memory.

After Ace did that, Duncan still stared at me, but it was questioningly, like he knew, but he didn’t. It was weird. I wondered if it was the vampire bite, but I refuse to talk to him and find out and I had moved on. Trey talked to him to make sure it wasn’t anything to worry about. Ace and Trey said he was okay, so I trusted them.

A couple months before finals, on a Saturday. I was innocently reading in my room, when all of the sudden out of nowhere Trey bursts into my room and pulled me by the arm out of my room. My book fell to the floor before I could put a bookmark in, but that was the least of my worries. He pulled me down the hall to the outside of his room without a word of what was going on. Before I could ask he held up the one minute finger, went in and dragged Ace out the same way. He stood between us and put a hand on each of our shoulders.

“Great! Now that I have you two together and free, I can officially tell you I am coming with you this Summer.”

“But why? Why would this interest you?” I asked confused.

“It doesn’t”

“Yes, I am. She can’t fight off multiple people at a time with a sword. She needs extra protection if you two are going to play pirate war.” Ace shook his head disapprovingly. “You don’t believe me? If that is the case, if she can beat both of us at the same time in a sword fight, then I will stay home.”

Ace sighed. “The people we will be fighting are not going to be as skilled as us. Beat me and I will let you come with.” Trey opened a portal as if accepting his challenge.

They hastily went through, and I barely managed to follow. The fighting grounds were the training grounds near the rebellion’s headquarters.

“Guys this isn’t necessary. Ace just let him come along.” I said trying to stop them before they started.

They of course ignored me. They both took swords out from a portal and went at it. The only rule they had was no magic, which meant a very even playing field, and well.... this was going to last a while and it did. About two hours into it and they were getting sloppy. Trey got a cut on his left arm and Ace had a scratch on his face. I had started growing tired of the male pissing match. Since they had been at it for about two hours, it’s understandable. I threw them in the opposite directions away from each other with levitation.

“Stay out of this!” Ace yelled at me. They began to run back at each other again.

“No!” I said as I got between them and shifted my arms into blades. I blocked their attacks meant for each other. “Just let him come. He is evenly matched with you.”

“No he’s not!” Ace began to argue.

“Yeah, he’s right. I’m better.” Trey said taunting him.

I sighed. “Shut it, Trey!” I paused regaining composure. “We need all the help we can get so he is coming.” I said plainly as fact to end the fight.

They both dropped their swords as Ace nodded his head. I shifted my arms back to normal. After a little bit of healing for both of them, we went home.
