The Raspite Prince
Chapter 23

"Hello mother." Patrick says in a most respectful tone. She moves back from the screen over to the side of a bed and when the picture of his father hit the screen it is a shock. He had different medical devices hooked to him and the older woman sat down in a chair posed on the edge like I set most of the time which told me that she was raised as a lady or upper class.

"How bad is he getting?" Patrick asks. His face turns from smiles to an instant look of sadness at the site.

"The doctor says he may not make it through the night son." when I hear her voice I am a little surprised. It sounded nothing like the voice I heard in the bathroom, or in the captain's room. I try to put it off but it is just strange, maybe it was that she was muffled a bit by the doors that were closed.

"Well then it is a good thing we contacted you now. Do you want to tell them or do you want me to?" he says looking at me. He tries to smile through the turmoil dancing in his mind at the thought of losing his father. I look at him nervous to speak but perhaps it is better that I do it considering.

"Mr. and Mrs. Wolf I would like you to know that your son and I will be getting married." there is a look of shock on his mother's face and his father sat quietly for a moment. I can feel my heart about to pound out of my chest in anticipation for their reaction. Here it goes all that I have been afraid of is about to come out of their mouths and they won't approve. At first I am unsure if his father has actually heard what I said, but I know his mother did as she turns to look at her husband.

"Son, I know the way you feel about marriage. I also want to say that I am glad you changed your mind. She is a very beautiful woman and I wish you happiness." Its voice is shaking as he tries to sound strong in his weakened state.

"Thank you father." Patrick says. I release a breath I hadn't realized I was holding. I turn my eyes towards his mother still anticipating some resistance.

"I am glad you contacted us first. I want to let you know that due to my health I will not be in the meeting tomorrow, but I will send the news that I will stand beside your decisions." He pulls a mask over his face that he has to pulled down when he speaks and raises back up several times to catch his breath.

"Honey rest now. Thank you both for giving him this last bit of happiness before he passes. I will try to video in when it happens. For now I want to get back to the last minutes I may have with him. Goodbye Son." The woman says as she places her hand on his father's chest and turns toward the screen.

"Goodbye mother." He pauses for a moment, "father I am sorry for ever wronging you. I do love you in case I don't ever get to the chance to see you again." with that the line went off. I look at Patrick I can tell even though he is trying not to show emotion that the condition of his father bothers him. I reach up and place my hand on his chest as I turn slightly into him. He grips my hand giving me a gentle smile, though his eyes show sadness

"Is there anything you want me to do? Or is there anything I can say?" I ask as he turns to face me placing a kiss on my fingers as he holds my hand.

"No I am fine, I promise. I guess I just didn't realize how bad he had gotten." He responds as he leads me out of the captain's office.

"I am so sorry Patrick, perhaps we should try to hold off the wedding till we see what happens." I suggest. I am in no hurry myself to complete this task as I am certain my father is correct in assuming I will become a mindless servant to him.

"No, I want to marry you Laoonica. It is just the last time we were actually in the same room as each other there was a huge fight and I never really apologized for what I said. It has been two years since I have visited them." He reaches out to push the button on the elevator the captain looks over at us, but judging by Patrick's face he just sort of bows his head and turns away. It is as if he already knew what is wrong. He still put his arm around me, but at this point I can't read his face. There is no expression on his even in his eyes.

"I can't tell you how to feel but I am here beside you." he smiles pulling my hand to his lips once more kissing it softly. As the elevator heads to the cafeteria he is very quiet. I want nothing more than to help him but in truth I have not gotten over my own father's death so I do not know how to.

We get off the elevator and walk into the cafeteria for dinner with his arm still around me. I realize that it is set up exactly the way it was the first night aboard. I blush when I remember the way I felt with what had happened after drinking so much wine. Everyone is looking at us which takes me more than a minute to figure out why they all have silly grins on their faces. I guess it is because up till now Patrick and I have tried to hide our feelings, but I guess he figured since we agreed to get married that there was nothing more to hide. I look over at him blushing. He laughs a bit at how red my cheeks are running his free hand down the side of my face to try to calm me.

"Shall we." He says pointing to the table that had been set up especially for us. I look around nervously noticing that Officer Meldow and the doctor were both looking at us without so much as a blink. I look back at him and he could tell how I felt almost instantly.

"I don't like them all looking at me that way." I whisper to him. Being in public so much is a bit overwhelming at times, especially at times when it seems all eyes are on me. I feel as though they are waiting for me to make a mistake or something.

"They have more than one reason to look at you, but I am pretty sure this time it is mostly my fault. Perhaps they are still not quite use to the idea of me being with someone." He tries to ease my discomfort. With everything that he is going through he seems still so concerned with my comfort and it makes me smile. Maybe this is actually what was supposed to happen, maybe all of this was meant to lead up to me finding my true love and being able to control my powers. I just wish that my father hadn't passed away. I wanted him here for my wedding, I had always wanted him to approve of the man I ended up with. I couldn't help but wonder what he would think about Patrick.

"You know when I look at you I can't imagine why I did not want to get married. At this point I can't think of being that way anymore. I actually feel extremely excited, extremely happy, and unable to contain myself." I look at him smiling as big as I cot his statement. It seems that just being around me cheered him up despite all the bad news he had just received.

"I can't wait either." We walk over to our table as he pulls my chair out and then take his seat. He smiles as the waiter brought out our salads. He begins to poor the wine. "None for me thank you." Patrick let out a full out laugh it is the first time I had heard him laugh like that. He chuckled at me all the time, but this laugh fills the cafeteria. I smile at him as it draws ayes to us. I can feel myself blushing as he looks over at me. Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the Findɴovel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

"Not in the mood for it this time?" He has a ridicules smile on his face. I know he is still laughing a bit inside at my refusal to f the wine.

"I think after last time it is better if I don't. At least till I have better control over my powers." I look down at the salad and began to take my first bite.

"Well I guess that would be a good thing. So I think we need to come up with a way to tell the council all this information." He says as he begins to eat as well.

"Yes I know I haven't quite thought it all through. I am a little worried though." I had finished most of my salad and was now waiting on the entrée. I have to now figure out if I should tell him about the other part of the prophecy.

"What are you worried about?" Patrick asks as he finishes up his salad as well. He looks right into me as though he knows there is more than just what I have said thus far.

"Well that they won't listen, and there is the idea that it, that this might not work. What if I don't gain control just from marring you? What do we do then?" I ask as the waiters takes the bowl and set down the delicious looking plate of food.

"I take getting married very seriously." He looks at me and with the way he stared at me I can't help but look back. "If it doesn't work then what ever you decide I will be beside you."

"Even if you have to give up your life exploring?" I look over to the next table where the doctor and Meldow are still watching our every move.

"I want to be with you, and that will be an adventure in itself." by the time we finish our second course couples have begun dancing to the music again. I look over at Patrick who has started getting out of his chair walking over to me.

"You want to dance after what happened last time?" I looked up at him as he walks to my side and holds out his hand. If saying no to those green eyes, with the way he looks at me is even possible.

"I would like to share another dance with you this time it will be a dance with my soon to be wife." I smile and take a hold of his hand. When we get to the dance floor this time I do not look at my feet. I stared directly into his eyes as we danced to a slow tune. Everyone else clears the floor to watch as we dance. The lights lower and we move around the entire floor. I have fallen in love with him completely. As I look at him the room around us fades into near none existence I realize that even my father would not have approved I didn't really care. When the song has ended we don't return to our seats I lean in and so does he, this time the kiss last for longer than any other. I know I am glowing but I do not pull away as the glow surrounds both of us as we hold each other. When we finally finish, stead od everyone around us whispering or running in fear, they clapped. I look around to see everyone smiling. I don't understand why they are, but it is a nice change from what I was used to.

"Well then, I didn't quite expect that." He whispers. We are both a little embarrassed, but he just puts his arm around my waist as we turn towards the door walking out quickly leaving the dining room. We are both smiling, the glow however has returned to only me.

"I am not sure what this is you know that right?" I ask as we step into the elevator. He pushes the button for the level our room is on. When the doors close I lay my head on his shoulder. I like the feeling inside of me when I am close to him even if it is a bit confusing. Nothing else seems to matter other than him and me. If this is what my father was talking about when he meant giving up myself then it really isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I enjoy being in his arms. We step out of the elevator heading towards the room. The guards that are normally there must have taken a break because there is no one in sight. We go into the room and even in the darkness we don't need the lights the glow coming off of the me is more than enough to see everything in the room.
