Chapter 20

“It has nothing to do with Landon. I came here on my own accord. It shouldn’t be so surprising for a wife to want to have dinner with her husband, should it?”

I looked around the private room, smiling when I realized it was only him and Nora inside.

It seemed that the copyright holder, Larry Morton, hadn’t arrived yet.

My timing couldn’t be more perfect.

“Taylor, there was a time recently when I believed you might be turning a corner. But it seems old habits

die hard.

“Don’t stir trouble right now. We have important matters to address tonight. Leave immediately.” Gordon’s eyes narrowed into icy slits, his voice smooth but carried chilling disdain as he spoke.

He likely assumed I was here out of jealousy, intent on causing a scene.

However, he was wrong this time.

“Shouldn’t the wife be involved in important conversations? After all, wouldn’t a united front be most effective in these ‘Important matters?”

“No worries, you continue your discussion, and I’ll be here for support,” I remarked casually, dismissing his demands for me to leave.

I then settled myself next to him.

“Mr. Holmes, why is she still here? I thought tonight was about the script. What could a housewife possibly know about this?” Nora, already seeming uneasy at my presence, grew visibly more distressed as I’settled into my seat.

She quickly seized Gordon’s hand in front of me, in an attempt to diminish me.

“There seems to be a misunderstanding, Nora. I am not merely a housewife, but a lady of high society. It is a position you, as an actress, might long for yet never achieve,” I said, turning to face Nora with a provocative smile.

I realized that Sabrina was the mastermind behind all of this. Nora, a temporary figure in this drama, held no significance to me.

Taunting her was merely a rehearsal for the more challenging confrontations ahead.

Nora, who had previously been emboldened by Gordon’s support and never took me seriously, was caught off guard by my sharp retort.

Her face turned from green to blue, fuming so much that she seemed to puff up like a frog. “Mr. Holmes, she… she’s going too far! This is outrageous!”

“Should my presence overwhelm you, you’re welcome to exit,” I retorted, my smile barely there.

Leontinued. “Ms. Flores, surely, you’re not ignorant of my husband’s marital status. To openly hold hands with him in front of his lawful wife, are you auditioning for the mistress‘ role?

“Unfortunately, your scandal–laden past might not sit well with my family.”

My goal tonight was to sabotage their collaboration with Larry, so I aimed to make the atmosphere as awkward and tense as possible.

In the past, I might have been more cautious around Gordon, avoiding blunt words. However, I held nothing back now.

My straightforward jibes quickly angered Nora.

Actresses like her might have their own strategies, but their concern for maintaining a certain image in front of Gordon prevented them from responding with similar venom.

My constant taunting left her unable to cope, driving her to tears once more.

Just then, Larry arrived at the private room.

“Nora, head to the car. Take a moment to cool off and fix your makeup,” Gordon directed Nora with an icy

“Mr. Holmes, but…” Nora looked at me unwillingly, her glare sharp enough to wish Gordon would send me

away

“Leave” Gordon repeated his order firmly.

His frosty gaze settled on her, probably thinking her tearful display was unbecoming.

Being a celebrity, Nora naturally knew her weepy appearance was somewhat inappropriate.

Reluctantly, she stood up and left the private room.

Larry paused at the doorway, taken aback by the charged atmosphere, uncertain about stepping in.

Meanwhile, people of Gordon’s stature weren’t expected to warmly welcome a minor copyright holder.

Yet, I lacked that sort of arrogance. To me, Larry represented a promising prospect for my future

endeavors

I stood up and approached Larry with a smile.

“Mr. Morton, right? It’s wonderful to share dinner with you this evening. Please, come in and sit.”

“And you are?” he inquired, a mix of confusion and courtesy coloring his tone.

“I’m Taylor, pleased to make your acquaintance. I’m Gordon’s wife.”  S~ᴇaʀᴄh the FindNʘᴠᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

I had fully stepped into my role, reaching out to shake Larry’s hand with a friendly gesture..

“Oh so you’re Mrs. Holmes. It’s a pleasure, please take a seat.”

Larry’s demeanor changed to one of eagerness upon learning of my relationship to Gordon, quickly urging me to sit

“This gentleman here is my husband, Mr. Holmes. He tends to be quite reserved and Isn’t much for small talk. I hope you won’t mind, Mr. Morton.

As we took our seats, I introduced Gordon, who greeted Larry with a brief nod, maintaining his usual stoic

presence.

Larry seemed quite tense, so I made an effort to relax him by engaging in casual conversation.

The dishes presented in the room were a feast for the eyes, each one a showcase of exquisite culinary

skill.

I enthusiastically encouraged Larry to try the dishes, but Gordon remained a silent observer throughout the meal, not participating in the conversation.

I noticed his phone screen lighting up and then going dark repeatedly. Clearly, that bothersome woman Nora was persistently calling or messaging him.

“Dear, won’t you have something to eat?” I asked him tenderly in front of Larry, showing him respect.

However, Gordon wasn’t interested in returning the favor, replying coldly, “I usually eat light dinners. Just

take care of Mr. Morton.”

His response seemed like tacit permission for me to host Larry, which secretly pleased me.

This fool had no idea my visit tonight wasn’t merely about jealousy.

“That’s just how my husband is, always serious, even at home. It’s as if he ages himself with his

sternness. Aside from the rumors he’s involved in, there’s little that suggests he’s still young at heart,” I

said to Larry in a light–hearted complaint.

Gordon’s face darkened at my words, sharply calling out, “Taylor!”

I chuckled and replied. “I’m just joking. In truth, my husband loves me a lot. All the rumors are just for show. Anything I want, he provides without hesitation. He’s very generous to me.”

I laid the subtle groundwork for our discussion with Larry, while Gordon assumed I was merely engaging

in idle wife’s chatter.

As the conversation meandered away from business, Gordon’s patience began to thin.

He glanced at his phone multiple times, visibly disturbed by whatever Nora was conveying.

Losing patience, he abruptly interjected into my conversation with Larry. “Mr. Morton, my time is limited. Let’s get straight to the point. What’s your asking price for this drama?”
