Chapter 33

That evening, they accompanied me all the way back to my parents‘ house.

My parents were still awake, waiting for my return.

Seeing me return with company, they immediately looked worried and lost any desire to sleep. They bombarded me with questions about where I had been.

“Dad, I have both good and bad news to share with you. Which would you like to hear first?”

After seeing my friends off, I sat with my parents on the couch and broached the subject with my dad.

“Tell me both. I’m listening,” my dad said, his expression growing serious as his eyes were full of worry for

  1. me.

“The good news is that I’ve successfully purchased the rights to ‘Desperate Love‘ tonight for six million dollars. It’s a bit more than we anticipated, but trust me, I’ll make sure this drama is a hit.”

My dad was already aware of the transaction, so he wasn’t surprised.

He then inquired, “And the bad news?”

“The bad news is that I was kidnapped on my way back from the restaurant tonight, and it was a close call. If it weren’t for my friends‘ timely arrival, I might have been tomorrow’s headline news,” I said in a deep voice.

“What? How could this happen?” My dad was so alarmed that he sprang from the couch.

He asked, “Did they catch who kidnapped you? I want to find out who’s behind this.”

Dad had always been deeply emotional and grew up with my uncle as though they were true brothers, despite not being blood–related.

He always treated my cousin Mona with special affection and trust, it was his trust that led to our family’s downfall and devastation in my previous life.

“Dad, there’s something I need to say, and please don’t take it the wrong way. Do you believe someone is out to harm us?” I looked directly into my dad’s eyes, speaking earnestly.

“How could that be? Tay, do you know something?” Dad was stunned by my question.

“I just started at Radglo Corp. today, and this incident happened tonight. Isn’t that odd?  S~ᴇaʀᴄh the FɪndNovᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Moreover, there’s been a misunderstanding at Radglo Corp. for a while. People think Mona is your biological daughter. She now has considerable influence there, and Uncle is in charge of logistics…”

“Tay, are you implying your cousin and uncle are plotting something?” Dad guessed my implication.

However, he shook his head and said firmly, “That’s impossible. Willard has always been straightforward and honest. Mona is a good girl, dedicated to her work. Tay, you must be mistaken.”

I had anticipated Dad’s reaction.

After all, Willard and Mona had always been two people he deeply trusted

Dad, but I heard them plotting against me, and this incident happened. I know you value family ties, but we can’t see what’s in people’s hearts. We need to be cautious so we don’t end up being exploited and. regretting it later.”

I realized convincing Dad wasn’t going to happen overnight, but I felt it was necessary to start making him aware of the situation.

“I think Tay is right. It’s better to be cautious. Honey, you should pay more attention in the future.”

Mom supported my viewpoint, leaving Dad deep in thought.

He headed toward the bedroom, his silhouette heavy with contemplation.

I could tell he was starting to wake up to reality, although he would need some time to fully come to

terms with it.

Over the next few days, Mona went out of her way to please me.

She not only bought me handbags but also gave me various membership and shopping cards. She even invited me to join her for beauty treatments several times.

However, I didn’t expose her schemes as now was not the right time for revenge.
