Chapter 35

Baffled by Gordon’s unexpected appearance; I found myself being pulled into the car without much of an

explanation from him.

Luke had the radio tuned to a sweet–sounding pop song, “Love Tale“.

It was unusual, as Gordon typically listened to symphonies. This was my first time hearing Baylor Smith’s

music in his car.

I briefly considered the possibility that Luke had mistakenly switched the channel.

Before I could voice my thoughts, Gordon remarked, “Aren’t you a fan of Baylor Smith? I told Luke to

prepare some of her tracks just for you.”

It seemed he was now making an effort for me.

Yet, what was the point, especially with him about to meet his destined true love tomorrow?

This realization drained any momentary gratitude I might have felt.

“Oh, thanks for the effort,” I said.

My attention returned to my phone, only to be greeted by a news alert.

“Holmes Group secures ‘Alluring City‘ rights for a hefty sum, with Nora slated as the lead…”

I thought I was numb, but the news still tugged at my heart.

“You haven’t had a proper evening gown for years. I’ll take you out tonight to get one,” Gordon

commented, not noticing my troubled expression.

Was this an attempt to make amends to his official wife?

I couldn’t help but inwardly scoff. My gaze was still fixed on my phone as I delved deeper into the news, only to discover that it had just been published.

It seemed his relationship with Nora had grown closer over the past week.

I wondered what his plans would be once Sabrina appeared. Was he planning to juggle with three women?

“Is this your way of making it up to me, Mr. Holmes?” I asked, lifting my head, barely masking the turmoil inside with a semblance of a smile,

Tomorrow’s gala is crucial. The woman by my side must be up to par. You understand, right, Taylor?” he

replied.

“If you’re concerned about me being a letdown, why not have Nora accompany you?

“Since you’ve already gone out of your way to secure a lead role for her, you might as well let her take the spotlight tomorrow too,” retorted, despite not wanting to sound so bitter or demeaning.

Yet, driven by some inexplicable emotion, I couldn’t hold back my sharp words.

It seemed I still had a lot to learn in terms of maintaining composure and managing my feelin

You don’t get to be temperamental about this. Taylor, If you continue to be petty and disregard the bigger picture like you used to, this will be the first and last time I take you to a public event

As expected, my words didn’t make him feel guilty but Irritated him

He continued to perceive me as the same whimsical person, unfit for high society.

I was tempted to curse, to storm out of the car and tell him I didn’t care about the gala.

However, contemplating the significance of tomorrow’s event and Sabrina’s forthcoming appearance, I resigned myself to swallow my grievances.

All the effort put into piano practice couldn’t go to waste.

“Fine, I gritted my teeth and said, no longer engaging in conversation.

Tired, I leaned back in my seat and turned to watch the cityscape through the window.  sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ FindNøvᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.
