Chapter 74

“What other motive could I have? Taylor, when did you become like this? Didn’t you always want me to spend more time with you?”

“The past is the past, and we’re talking about the present. I thought we made things very clear at the

hospital the other day.”

I did not like going through the same things repeatedly. Wasn’t it better just to get things straight once

I had screamed my lungs out that day as I expressed everything I felt. Gordon should have gotten the message. Why was he now deliberately sending such mixed signals?

Gordon leaned back in his seat and sighed softly. He pinched the bridge of his nose, looking rather tired.

He said, “Mom told me that you prepared gifts for them today. I thought that you had thought things through.”

Thought things through?

I didn’t understand what he meant by that.

I said indifferently. “I didn’t mean anything by that. I just thought that since we’re still a married couple and your parents have never treated me badly, I should still give them gifts on Thanksgiving to show my appreciation for them.”

I had just finished speaking when I got a call from Hazel. Perhaps we were telepathically connected.

Like Gordon, she rarely called me. In the past, even if Gordon made all kinds of excuses to avoid bringing me home to visit them, they had never called to ask me why.

When I saw the number, I hesitated slightly before picking up.

“Happy Thanksgiving, Hazel! Can I help you with anything?”

“Thank you for your Thanksgiving gift, Tay. I like it very much. Gordon said he went over to your parents‘ place with you, so please send my regards to them.”

Perhaps it was because of the gift, but Hazel sounded exceptionally polite. I could practically hear her smiling.

“You’re welcome, Hazel. I don’t usually buy you and Hank anything, so I simply wanted to express my appreciation for you both today. Alright, I’ll pass on your regards to them.”

“Hank says the cigar has good flavor. Thank you for thinking of us. I just had a pie delivered to you and Gordon, so don’t forget to eat it tonight.”

Hazel spoke happily, so I quickly answered, “Thank you.”

After making small talk for a while, we ended the call.

Chapter 7

I hadn’t expected Hazel to be so pleased with my gifts, especially since she was used to grand things.

I had never done so before. On one hand, I thought my in–laws weren’t lacking anything and felt that they might not like what I bought for them. On the other hand, at that time, I’d always thought that they didn’t have a pleasant attitude toward me, so I didn’t bother to do anything for them.

I was beginning to realize that as long as you’re sincere, any relationship could become more intimate over time. It was just that I hadn’t realized it before.

“It’s Thanksgiving today. We don’t have to be so hostile toward each other. Why don’t we just celebrate it happily together?” Gordon suddenly said quietly.

“How do you want to do that?”

I turned to look at him and realized that he seemed to be very exhausted lately. There was a strong sense of fatigue on his face, and it made his eyes look deep and gloomy.

The streets outside were brightly lit, and the colorful city lights shone on his face. The sharp lines on his face looked perfect under the moonlight, and I couldn’t help admiring him once again. He was indubitably

handsome, and it would be hard for anyone to look away from him.

I snapped myself out of it. I couldn’t fall into the trap of his looks again. I had almost fallen in once more.

Fortunately, my rationality had reminded me at just the right time.

“The balcony on our roof is the best place to admire the moon,” Gordon murmured as he turned and

looked at me.

His gentle voice made my entire body seem to go slack.
