The Reckoning of Love ( Sophia Yancey )
The Reckoning of Love Chapter 52

Chapter 52 I Have Underestimated You

At the same time, Sophia’s words about young children choking on their food and dying lingered all over Gavin’s mind. “Will you let my son go if I confess?” he asked.

She was slightly frustrated. “Mr. Quinlan, I understand you are anxious after learning your son is lost. Why don’t you hurry up and confess? That way, I can get this done and get off work early. I can help you search for your son too. Not to brag, but I’m pretty lucky. Perhaps, I can retrieve your son for you as quick as a flash.”

Since he originally wanted her to be his scapegoat, the phone in his hand was already recording as he spoke to her. After all, his initial plan was to make her confess that she was the one who kidnapped his son, Benjamin Quinlan. That way, even if he turned himself in later, he could still sue her for kidnapping.

To his dismay, Sophia was too vigilant and did not take his bait. In addition, the words that escaped her lips sounded ambiguous and played no role in his plan. Glancing at the time on the wall clock, she said, “It’s almost lunchtime. I wonder if we can locate your son before then.”

Hearing that, Gavin gnashed his teeth so hard that they were about to break. Then, he grabbed a piece of paper and started writing down something. Perhaps because he was too enraged by the current situation and found it difficult to accept, the paper was torn right after he wrote the first stroke.

As for Sophia, she watched everything calmly. He wrote the names of each accomplice, one by one, followed by all the foul deeds he and the other party had done.

Meanwhile, Thomas was dumbfounded as he watched everything unravel before his eyes. Truthfully, he had already figured out he would uncover evidence of Gavin’s other wrongdoings during the investigation of this matter and that he needed some time to rectify the staff members here.

Yet, he never expected Sophia would make such a risky move and directly take drastic action at the beginning of the confrontation.

Time passed by, little by little. Finally, Gavin finished filling the whole sheet of four papers. Perhaps due to the saying, “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, the accumulated amount of money Gavin and his subordinates took from having a taste of here and there during the second phase of the construction site building alone in just half a year was enough to be regarded as astronomical.

“These are all that I know.” Gavin put down his pen. His face turned pale, and his energy was completely depleted.

Among the names written on the paper, most of whom were his fair-weather friends at some point in his life and had given him plenty of sweet deals. Yet, he had no choice but to betray these comrades for the sake of his only son.

“Excellent,” Sophia said. Then, she took out an ink pad case and instructed, “Mr. Quinlan, stamp your fingerprints line-by-line.”

He trembled with rage. Still, after his brief confrontation with her, he knew his resistance was useless when she had the absolute advantage in this bargain. Therefore, he took a deep breath and began stamping his fingerprints.

Once done, Sophia took the papers and looked at them carefully before she passed them to Thomas, who had a passerby mentality throughout the confrontation. He retrieved the evidence in a daze and furrowed his brows in displeasure as he looked through them. I can’t believe these b”stards would be so greedy to take advantage of being at a remote location, abuse their authorities, and do whatever they please. This accumulated sum almost reaches the annual profit earned by an average-scaled company.

In the meantime, Gavin was on pins and needles while waiting for Thomas to finish reading the content written on the papers, item by item. Just when his patience was about to run out, and he wanted to ask his son’s whereabouts, his phone rang out of the blue, piercing the tense air in the room. He grabbed his phone and saw it was his wife calling. Without delay, he answered it. “Where’s Ben? Has he been found?!” he roared.

The woman on the other end of the phone cried non-stop. “Honey, Ben’s been found! A kind stranger took him to the precinct… Honey! I was so freaked out!” Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the FɪndNøvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

At that. Gavin heaved a sigh of relief. After hanging up the phone, he looked at Sophia. “Miss Yancey, I have truly underestimated you.”

Ben was simply picked up by a kind stranger and sent to the precinct. Sophia has nothing to do with him going missing, so I can’t possibly drag her with me in this now!
