Chapter 6 Ultimate Support From Edmond

Half an hour later, Celeste returned from the grocery market with three large bags of groceries. The heavy plastic bags strained her fingers so badly that they restrained blood circulation. Finally, she placed the bags in front of the fridge and shook her fingers to relieve the pain. My poor swollen fingers… Following that, she stored the meat in the freezer, then arranged the rest of the fresh produce neatly before putting the seasoning into the kitchen. Lastly, she put on the newly bought apron, took out four large bowls, and poured the minced meat she had just bought into them. Then, she proceeded to chop up some vegetables. She intended to make a few batches and freeze them up for convenient breakfast or midnight snacks in the future. Since she didn’t know what fillings Julian liked or if he had any dietary restrictions, she thought to prepare four different fillings. While she was wrapping them, she turned the TV on, making good use of her time and not feeling bored. When she was four trays in and almost no filling left in the bowl, the doorbell rang. She blinked in surprise, quickly got up to wash her hands, and brisked to the door with bafflement. “Grandpa?!” Edmond stood alone behind the door with a beam, leaning on a cane. “Come in, Grandpa. Come in!” Celeste quickly opened the door and helped the elder inside. “Didn’t the doctor say you’ll only be discharged tomorrow?” “I’m so happy you and Julian got married that all my ailments disappeared!” Edmond was in the pink, and in his other hand, he held a gift for her. “Where’s Julian?” “He… He went to the office for a meeting.” Celeste made up an excuse hastily as she had no idea where he had actually gone. “What?!” Edmond turned grim. It’s already almost six! At that, he placed the bag on the table and pulled his phone out to dial Julian’s number. “Grand—” “Julian Meister, why must you be away on your married night?! Come home this instant!” Edmond demanded authoritatively, giving Julian no chance to refute him. After hanging up, the elder turned to Celeste with a beam and handed the bag to her. “Celeste, my dear, this is Julian’s gift to you. He left it at the Meister Manor by accident. Take a look and see if you like it.” To please Edmond, Celeste accepted the gift gladly. “Thank you, Grandpa. I’m happy with whatever he gets me.” “What a sweet child you are, my dear,” Edmond praised. It was only then he noticed she was wearing an apron. Then, he took a couple of steps forward when he noticed the perogies on the table, along with the dough and filling. “Celeste, did you make these yourself?” he asked with delight after recovering from his split-second surprise. “I did, Grandpa,” Celeste answered with a smile and put the gift away. “His fridge was completely empty, so I thought about freezing a few batches of them so that he could have them whenever he wanted. Besides, they’re healthier than store-bought frozen perogies.” “That rascal sure has gotten himself a virtuous and capable girl!” Edmond was beyond touched. “Does Julian have any dietary restrictions, Grandpa? I made four different fillings, so there should be at least one that he likes, right?” the young woman asked as she poured the man a glass of warm water. “Here, Grandpa, have a glass of water and take a seat on the couch. I’m almost done here.” “Sure, sure.” Edmond took the glass of water. “Julian eats everything! No dietary restrictions.” “That’s good to know.” Sometime later, Julian rushed back, but he hadn’t even had time to explain himself when Edmond belabored him seriously. “Grandpa, please don’t be angry. It’s not good for your health to get worked up.” Celeste intervened, smiling to conceal the situation. “Julian had an emergency today. Besides, he promised he’d come back early. He would definitely have returned even if you didn’t call.” It was precisely because Edmond was worried his beloved grandson would stay out all night and leave his newly-wedded wife home alone that he left the hospital in advance and came here. He would see that the two make good use of their first night as husband and wife!
