Chapter 66

“Amara!”

“What the fuck is going on!”

“You pretentious b*tch!”

“What is going on!!”

“Quickly! Go get the healer!”

Their voices sounded so far away, as if they were floating in another realm, beyond. my reach.

I tried to respond, to stop them from bringing in the healer but my voice failed me. It was as if I was trapped in my own b*dy. I realized I was now lying on the ground, still clutching my chest with several pairs of eyes watching me intently.

Tears welled up in my eyes as frustration and a wave of helplessness washed. through me. I knew Rick would still be there. I didn’t want him to see me like this!

The pain intensified and I felt someone holding me up, I used my second hand to hold her hands, it was Giselle.

“Don’t call the healer,” I heard her say as she looked at me with understanding.

I heard voices that sounded like they were having an argument of some sort. It was probably Lucien asking why the healer shouldn’t come or if she knew anything about what was happening to me.

Eventually, after what seemed like forever, the pain began to subside and I felt myself having control over my b*dy I sat up erect, removing my hand from my

chest.

Amara!” Lucien called out as soon as he noticed me sitting up. He must’ve been too engrossed in his argument with Giselle to notice me.

“Have you finished pretending already?,” Rielle questioned, rolling her eyes.

Giselle turned sharply to her, glaring at her. “I would expect more from the Lunal of Silverpine, but this behaviour of yours!it’s pathetic and annoying,” she turned to the guards. “Take this boy away from here,” she said, looking at Rick and as the

guards marched towards her, she flared up.

“Why should they take him away from here? he needs to see all these things! He is the future of Silverpine, one day,he’s going to be the alpha!,” she blurted out and I shook my head.

“No, he won’t. Kai is first.”

“Doesn’t matter!, we never can tell what could happen in the future,” She said and I could swear that I detected a hint of threat in her voice.

Lucien raised a hand to silence us and almost immediately, the room became silent.

“Amara, what happened just now?”

“She was just pretending,” Rielle said before I could answer

“Tell the guards to take Rick away, this is not the place for children!” Giselle shot out, just as Lucien was about to say something.

Lucien sighed and then looked at the guards, motioning for them to take Rick out.

Rielle huffed and puffed, whining about how he was going to grow up to become soft and weak, Lucien didn’t even answer her as he kept looking at me, waiting for

my answer.

“If you’re not pretending, then say it!!,don’t just stand there and waste our time!” Rielle snapped and I swallowed hard, hoping that the ache wasn’t a manifestation of my power or anything related to my gifts.

“I–um–I,” I glanced at Giselle who nodded, urging me to continue and tell them.

I was scared and I took a deep breath to calm my anxiety. It was then that the door. opened and the healer entered. I glanced at her as I thought about what could possibly be the cause of the ache.

“I don’t know what it is, but it has been going on for a while….” I trailed off before Rielle interrupted me.

“When exactly is a while!” she snapped.

I clenched my fist, struggling with the strong urge to punch her.

“Why didn’t you tell anyone?,” Lucien questioned and I sighed, knowing I had a lot of explaining to do.

“I thought it wasn’t anything serious..it didn’t start out this painful, it just got painful with time,” I explained, avoiding his gaze.

“Yet, you didn’t think it necessary to tell anyone or even see the healer,” He pointed out and I kept quiet, knowing that there really was no explanation for what happened.

“Or is there a reason why you decided to hide it from everyb*dy-”

“I know about it,” Giselle chirped in and he turned to her.

“What was the purpose of keeping it hidden?” he furrowed his brows and she shrugged.

Before she could say anything, I spoke. “I didn’t want to stress anyone, I begged her to keep it a secret.”

“Why?”

“With everything going on right now, I don’t think I should be a burden-”

“Damn right!” Rielle exclaimed.

“And you were a human doctor,” Lucien muttered and Rielle scoffed.

Lucien faced the elders. “I’m sorry for the sudden turn of events, but a later date will be fixed for her trial.”

I almost chuckled, my life was indeed something else,

indeed something else, I was even on trial and I didn’t know. No wonder the same elders present at my trial were present.

“For now, you need to check her,” he said to the healer who nodded.

The elders stood up and left the room, leaving only Rielle, Lucien, Giselle and I with the healer.

She came close to me and touched my chest, feeling my heartbeat, then she checked my pulse.

“Where is your mark?,” she asked and I glanced at Lucien.

“Why is that important?,” Rielle questioned as she stepped forward.

“Or you don’t know your job anymore!”

She ignored Rielle and looked at me, I then showed her, and she examined it for a while and nodded as she stood up.

“It is as I suspected,” she faced Lucien..

“The bond…the mate bond, there has been a problem with it. She needs to mate quickly or risk losing herself.”

“What do you mean by losing herself?” Lucien demanded with furrowed brows.

“Death, if she doesn’t mate soon, the ache will get even worse and she’ll die-”

“She’ll die from a chest ache, is that what you’re saying?” Giselle asked and the healer nodded.

“Shut up! it seems like you clearly do not know your job anymore so let me spell it out for you. Your job is to diagnose the kind of disease she has and find a remedy for it, Rielle shot out, glaring murderously at the healer.

The healer didn’t react to the harsh tone directed at her. She instead spoke in a very calm tone. “I have diagnosed her disease, in simpler terms, it’s known as love sickness or in her case, heartbreak.” She paused and then faced Lucien directly.

“And as for the remedy. It’s quite simple or complicated in her case. The one who marked her has to mate with her, again.”

The room was so silent that you could hear a pin drop.

“Shut up! And get out!”

It was Rielle and she sounded really pissed. She lunged forward and Lucien held her back. She was breathing heavily, visibly angry.

Are there no other options?,” Lucien demanded, ignoring Rielle who kept huffing and muttering insults.

She shook her head, “there’s nothing I know that can help.”

explained and she shook her head.

“The first time, you were lucky. Who removed it for you?”

“The crone,” I revealed.

“She took a huge risk, but thank the goddess it was successful. Normally, what would happen is that the mark would be replaced by another person’s, but then, this one, it’s quite serious, there’s no other option,” she announced and my heart sank.

There was no way Lucien was going to mate with me, not with Rielle here. She would rather have me dead..

“Lucien!, you can’t listen to this old hag, she is probably working with this traitorous b*tch right now!” She exclaimed.

“Are you saying, we should let her die?,” Giselle questioned, glaring daggers at Rielle.

“I don’t care! there’s probably nothing wrong with her. This is just one of her schemes to get Lucien to have S*x with her and make him lose his guard to overthrow him for the Blood Creek!”

“Can’t she even mate with someone else? why should it be Lucien!,” she yelled out, glaring at the healer who did not even seem a bit fazed.

Lucien who had been quiet for a while as he watched us, put his hand up, to

silence us

“Are you sure about this?” he questioned as he gazed at her.

“Yes, Alpha-

“Of course, she’s lying! You can’t possibly trust this woman!” Rielle shot out,

“We should perhaps consult another healer just to be-”

Giselle was saying when Rielle interrupted again.

“And have another one of her scheming healers brought in here? No!. I’m telling you, they’re both in on this.

I kept quiet and the healer looked emotionless.

“Before you bring in a healer from another place, it might be too late,” she said firmly.

Lucien stood up and we all kept quiet.

“Yumi is Silverpine’s best healer and has been with us for a while now, I trust her and I trust her judgement.”
