Chapter 72

We spun around to see very familiar face. I furrowed my brows, wondering what he was doing here.

Rolan!

“You rescued us?” I asked, confused.

All the times I had seen him, he was always nonchalant and indifferent. Lucien had told me that he considered himself an adventurer of some sort. He was younger than Giselle and as Tanner was dead, he was now the last sibling.

“Well, I couldn’t let any harm befall my only sister. I didn’t know what that witch fed Lucien that could make him imprison his little sister,” he said, shoving his hands into his pocket as he smiled at Eve.

“How did you find us?” she questioned. “I was sure that no one could find us.”

“For someone like me, everything is possible, I just had to search the right places and talk to the right people,” he said casually and she scoffed.

“If you could search the right places and talk to the right people to find us, then Rielle can find us. She has the rightest people and is smart enough to know all the right places,” she announced and he chuckled.

“You all give that b itch too much credit. She isn’t as smart as you all say. She isn’t smart enough to find you,” he said and then sighed.

“Don’t you have food? I sk ipped my lunch to be here and where’s my sister?” he asked and Eve pointed to the house.

We walked together and I couldn’t help but notice how she kept glancing at him, suspiciously.

“Giselle!,” he yelled as soon as we entered the house.

It was a small, cozy apartment with a small fireplace that kept the house warm.

Giselle, who had been seated on the sofa, got up slowly, and as soon as she saw who it was, her eyes widened with surprise and she ran to his embrace.

“Rolan,” she murmured as the tears began to drop.

“I’m sorry,” he muttered and she sniffed as she pulled out of his embrace and began to wipe her tears.

“How did you find us?,” she questioned and he began to narrate how one of the guards in his service had sent a message to him that his sister had been imprisoned on Rielle’s ofler.

I followed Eve to the kitchen and began to narrate my ordeals, including the letters I had received and Kai’s finger that was sent to Lucien.

“I’m sorry you had to go through all that,” she said and then looked to see that no one was coming.

“I don’t trust that Rolan,” She said and I nodded. I didn’t trust him either, hell, I didn’t trust

anyone.

“One thing I learned from staying in that mansion was not to trust anybody. I don’t think I

too,” I mentioned and she shook her head in pity. Crustr

“You’ve been through a lot,” she said and I nodded.

“We have to be careful, at least until we find Kai,” I stated as I helped her in taking the meal to the small dining room.

“Food is ready, everyone,” Eve announced as she set the table.

I wondered why Norman had a bored expression on his face,he might be upset like us about Roland’s presence. The only one who seemed pleased about his presence was Giselle.

We ate in silence until Rolan broke the silence.

“Norman, my man!Do you even remember me?” he questioned and Norman glared at him and continued eating, without saying a word.

I felt that there was something between those two, perhaps they had a rivalry of some sort in the past.

“I miss Raven!, man! did you kill him? How did you feel after doing that? You two were the best buddies out there,” he said again, earning a murderous glare from

Norman.

“Who prepared this meal? Eve it’s you right, you are a good cook!” He exclaimed, but she kept a tight face, she wasn’t even trying to be subtle about her hate towards

him.

“Amara, you must feel bad about how Lucien treated you, perhaps it’s just your fate, if you had a better family, all these wouldn’t have happ–,” he was still saying when I cut him off.

“Shut up! just shut up! Rolan. We’re eating right now and In case you haven’t noticed, nobody is happy about you being here,” I snapped, dropping my spoon on the table with a loud clu.

How dare he mention my family. He was nothing without his own family.

He raised his hands defensively. “Alright, alright, remember if not for me, you would still be in Silverpine cell,” he pointed out and I sighed.

Even though he was annoying, he was right. If not for him I wouldn’t have found my sister and for that alone, I was grateful.

Although I couldn’t shake off the feeling that he had an ulterior motive.

He kept quiet after that and we ate in silence. I followed Eve to the kitchen after the meal.

“Do you think He has ulterior motives?” I questioned and Eve spun around quickly.

“Ulterior motives? who?”

“Rolan,” I stated and she sighed.

“I don’t know if he has ulterior motives or not, but I don’t trust him,” she said firmly.

“Why? And why does Norman seem to be extra hostile towards him?” I demanded as it seemed strange the way Norman always glared at him.

“They go way back,” she revealed as she did the dishes.

I helped her place some of the dishes on the rack.

“They go way back? they have a history of some sort?” I questioned with furrowed brows.

“They do. When Norman was still a –you know, a robber,he got a kill job from Rolan. Turns out it was one of Norman’s friends. He couldn’t do it and they had an argument where Rolan promised to turn him in. It was why he left Silverpine,” she explained and I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion.

So that was what happened.

“He told you that?” I questioned, feeling that there was something more to that.

“Yes.”
