They strolled for half an hour. Madelyn’s phone in her pocket rang when the time just passed eight o’clock. The mood of their conversation suddenly became quiet
Seeing the caller ID, Madelyn answered the phone. “My gathering is over. Just come to the school gate to pick me up.”

“I should get going,” she said.

Lem showed concern. “It’s not safe for a girl to go alone. I happen to have a car. So we can go back together.”
Madelyn advised her, “Just take Kennedy’s car. Otherwise, I’ll be worried.”

Kennedy’s car happened to be parked right at the school gate. As they approached, there were few people at the school entrance. Suddenly, a panicked cry for help echoed not far away.
“Help! Help me!”
Duncan Knox, dressed in rags, resembling a beggar, emerged from a thicket. His body was covered in blood, and he dragged a broken leg that seemed freshly fractured. “Help me. Someone’s trying to kill me!”
Mya was so scared that she hid behind Madelyn, “Y–You… Why are you coming to us instead of calling the cops?”
