Elsa Ayesa regained her composure as she heard the sound of running water coming from the bathroom. Her face was still flushed, but there was no emotion in her eyes as she stared up at the ceiling. When the bathroom door finally opened, she sat up on the bed.
By the time she turned her head, she’d already masked her expression with a charming smile.
“You’re so inconsiderate, Mr. Laurier. How could you come over so late at night without letting me know first?” She sounded slightly aggrieved.
Stan Laurier was drying his hair, his muscular figure hidden under a half–open bathrobe. He glanced at Elsa.
Her acting had gotten better and better. After over a year of being with him, did she really think he wouldn’t know that she was putting on an act whenever he was around?
His lips hooked into a smile, but he’d decided to say nothing about it for now. “I’ll remember that next time.”
As he spoke, he tossed the towel in his hand on the bed and opened the wardrobe to find a pair of pants. The bathrobe was flung aside.

“Mr. Laurier, it’s been over a month since you went abroad for that business trip. It was on the third of last month, remember? Why are you leaving not even an hour after you’re back?” Elsa slid off the bed to embrace him from behind. “Stay until the morning, at least, and spend more time with me. I’ve been dreaming about you every night.”
He grabbed her hand and shoved her against the wardrobe, his eyes sweeping over her charming face and flawless body. She was beautiful, but she could read people well too–and that was why she’d been by his side for so long. In spite of everything, she made him happy.
Stan stroked her cheek. “Elsa, how long have you been with me?”
“Almost a year.” Elsa’s eyes glinted, and she smiled lightly. “Why, Mr. Laurier? Are you sick of me?”
She wasn’t aware Stan saw through her pleas. After all this time, she’d convinced herself she was hiding her real feelings well. “I’ll have my assistant contact you later.”
He took his wallet from his coat pocket, withdrawing a check he’d prepared beforehand.
Elsa took the check from his hand, smiling brightly. “Thank you, Mr. Laurier.”

another word, she headed towards the bathroom, completely naked.
She’d just filled the bathtub with water and laid down in it when she heard the sound of a door closing outside.
Elsa closed her eyes and thought about what Stan had just said. After a year, was it all over?
That was exactly what she’d wanted, though. A year ago, she‘ d been betrayed, and she’d planned to and her life by jumping from the roof of a building before she came to her senses.
Why was she trying to die? Wasn’t it a better plan to live and have this powerful man help her get revenge on everyone?
But she still hadn’t found her mother’s killer. Stan Laurier wasn’t such a great man after all. She’d become disillusioned. If it hadn’t been for the contract she’d signed, tying her down for a year’s time, she’d have gotten up and walked out of this long ago.
When the alarm clock rang the next morning, Elsa scrambled out of bed immediately, forgetting the exhaustion she’d felt the night before. Half an hour later, washed and changed, she hurried out.
