Chapter 27 Core–Strengthening Pill or Meatball?
Ashley didn’t care too much about the woman’s warning. She returned to the bed next to the counter and lay down, playing with her phone while waiting to see if anyone else was coming that night.
Time passed, and the night wore on.
No one else came after that.
Ashley was a little sleepy. She lay on the bed next to the counter and dozed off.
There was a slight noise coming from upstairs every so often.
But Ashley didn’t really notice it.
Meanwhile, in a desert some distance away from Haven City, an off–road vehicle was parked not far away. The headlights were shining brightly in the darkness of the night, and two men were standing in front of the car.
One of them was in a suit and leather shoes. If Yves heard this man’s voice, he would definitely be able to recognize him, as this man was none other than the wealthiest man in Haven City,
Lincoln!
Beside him stood a man wearing a black sweatshirt, looking very casual.
It was night, yet he was wearing black sunglasses and a mask. If the headlights weren’t on, one wouldn’t even be able to spot him.
“Without realizing it, you have been in Haven City for 30 years, and you have become much older.” The sunglasses man looked at Lincoln and let out a long sigh.
“Yeah,” Lincoln said, “In the blink of an eye, I have been in Haven City for 30 years.”
“Is there any news from Mason?” The sunglasses man asked.
Lincoln shook his head and said, “There has been no news from him in the past 30 years. Don’t tell me that old guy is dying now!”
“He had entered the Qi Refining Stage back then. It won’t be a problem for him to live for two or three hundred years.” The sunglasses man shook his head and said, “Anyway, if there is news from him, remember to contact me immediately.”
As he spoke, he rummaged inside his pocket and said, “By the way, this is what I brought for Ruby.”
Then he took a box out from his pocket and threw it to Lincoln.
Lincoln quickly caught the box, and he could feel warmth emanating from inside the box. “This is the Core Strengthening Pill!” The sunglasses man said, “It is a first–level pill. Although it can’t completely cure Ruby’s ALS, it can still serve as a relief and buy some time.”
However, he then broke out into curses. “Damn it! There are fewer and fewer alchemists in the cultivation world now. Since Wilfred went into seclusion, the pills that fulfill the standard specifications have gotten fewer. When I bought this Core–Strengthening Pill at the auction, it almost cost me my wealth and life.”
“This Core–Strengthening Pill is useful to strengthen your foundation and is the most suitable to use during the Qi Refining Stage. You really need it now, so keep it for yourself!” Lincoln threw the pill back to the sunglasses man.
The sunglasses man hesitated. “But Ruby…”

“Ruby’s illness has been cured!” Lincoln said.
“What?” The sunglasses man’s expression changed slightly. He asked, “Are you sure?”
Lincoln nodded and said, “Yes. I met a miracle doctor.”
“Is he an Immortal Cultivator?” The sunglasses man asked in surprise.
“I don’t think so. He was brought here by that girl from the Simmons family in Avalon City,” Lincoln said, “Ah, speaking of this, that girl seems to be in trouble. You should attend to her if you have time.”
However, the sunglasses man was obviously not interested in this topic, as he cared more about Ruby’s condition. He continued to ask, “What method did he use to treat her?”
“I don’t know the specific of the treatment method, but Ruby said it was an alternative medicine technique!” Lincoln said.
“Alternative medicine… is extensive and profound. Perhaps there are indeed some alternative medicine practitioners who are adept at crooked means. Who knows, they might be able to treat such diseases.” The sunglasses man muttered, “Then I’ll keep this Core–Strengthening Pill. Maybe I could enter the seventh level of Qi Refining with this!”
“By the way, what brought you to Haven City?” Lincoln asked doubtfully.
The sunglasses man was silent for a moment.
Lincoln laughed and said, “Since you’re uncomfortable to say it, we won’t talk about it.”
As he spoke, he took out a pack of cigarettes and lit one for the sunglasses man.
The sunglasses man let out a long sigh. “If it hadn’t been for me, you wouldn’t have needed to return back then.”
“It’s all in the past, and I haven’t properly entered the Qi Refining Stage either.” Lincoln shook his head and said, “Besides, I am also the richest man in Haven City now, and my life is much more comfortable than yours.”
The sunglasses man still looked a bit guilty. He wanted to say something more!
Suddenly, he noticed that there seemed to be a person… swimming in the river in front of them.
Yves was in the river, and he had to hold on through the effect of the Passion Powder.

But because of the current, he didn’t even know where the water had brought him.
Yves looked around and found two beams of light in the distance, so he decided to swim in that direction.
Once he was near the shore, he saw two people there!
With his visual sense activated, his eyesight was so startling that he could see even at night.
He was ecstatic!
Initially, he had been thinking that he would most likely spend the night in the wild, but now that he saw them, he might be able to ask for a ride with the two of them to return to the city.
He quickened his swimming and soon reached the shore.
He looked at the two of them, and they also looked back at him.

Lincoln’s expression changed slightly, and he said, “Huh? Mr. Collins?”
Yves also instantly recognized Lincoln upon hearing his voice. He said in shock, “Mr. Gomez, why are you here?”
Lincoln hurriedly said, “I was discussing something with my friend here.”
As he said that, he looked at Yves strangely and said, “But I wonder about you, Mr. Collins. Why did you come out from the river? Were you taking a night swim?”
The sunglasses man frowned slightly.
Yves coughed awkwardly and said, “Yes, swimming at night is good for
your health!”
“Mr. Collins, your eyes…” Lincoln frowned and said, “So you are not blind!” Previously, Yves had made Ruby remove all her clothes when he was treating her. However, Yves‘ eyes were brimming with radiance now, not looking like a blind man at all.
Yet he didn’t strike at Yves, remembering that he had saved his daughter’s life.
“Uh…” Yves said with an awkward look on his face, “That’s… My eyes have just recovered. I was indeed blind before.”
Lincoln gave
him a dubious look.
Yves coughed awkwardly and said, “Um, Mr. Gomez, this place seems a bit far from Haven City. Can you give me a ride?”
“Of course, no problem!” Lincoln said with a smile, “We’re just planning to return as well.” Suddenly, Yves‘ eyes fell on the box in the sunglasses man’s hand, and he felt that the energy emanating from the box was a bit familiar.
Noticing Yves‘
gaze, the sunglasses man asked with great interest, “What’s the matter? Do you recognize this thing?”
“It’s a bit familiar, but I might not know it until I see it,” Yves said with a smile.
The sunglasses man opened the box, revealing a round pill the size of a small thumb.
“Isn’t this a meatball?” Yves said in surprise.
“You’re mistaken!” The sunglasses man retorted with a frown.
“How can I be mistaken? I grew up eating this stuff, and every time I ate it, there was always a huge pot of it,” Yves said, “But it doesn’t taste very nice.”
Next to him, the expressions of the sunglasses man and Lincoln gradually darkened.
