The Rogue Alpha
Nighttime

Anna came from the bath around the same time my Bro finished making tacos. We sat around joking and telling stories like nothing was going on in our lives.

After dinner the guys each took a turn taking a shower.

Then we had cupcakes and ice cream for dessert.

Afterwards I went and took a bath, running it for myself. I soaked in the heat of the water, letting the pain of the last few days slip from my muscles. I tried to let my mind drift into nothingness, but thoughts about everyone trying to thwart me from a life I never wanted kept intruding.

"Why me?" I asked God, not expecting a response, "Why do I have to deal with all this, wasn't my life before now hard enough?"

I sighed and lowered myself so that only my face wasn't under the water. When the water cooled beyond my comfort I got out, dried off, and dressed in my night clothes before adding my robe and walking out.

Only Alpha Nolan was in the common area when I got out. I smiled at him. "Are you ready for bed?" He asked me.

I shrugged my shoulders. "Are you coming with me?"

He pulled me into a soft embrace. "As long as you want me next to you, that's where I'll be."

I lowered my head to his shoulder. "I can't imagine not wanting you with me, but it has to be frustrating to lay next to me, without being able to..."

Alpha Nolan gently lifted my head. "Someday soon we'll be able to do everything, and I don't mind the sweet torture of waiting."

"Sweet torture, huh?" I asked in a teasing voice.

He laughed. "That's the best way I can describe having you next to me, without pursuing more."

I chuckled and held him tighter as a yawn escaped.

"Let's go lay down." My Alpha whispered in my ear.

Chills ran down my spine, the tingly happy kind, not the kind that gives you the creeps. I couldn't be more content in that moment if I tried.

We stopped our hug and went to my room holding hands. Once he closed the door I removed my robe and climbed into bed. He stripped down to his boxers and climbed in next to me.

I let him wrap me in his arms. He had been holding me for the last couple nights, but thanks to the pain I was in I hadn't really felt the full effect of being in his arms.

Tonight however I melted into the comfort and held him back. Before I knew it I was drifting off to sleep.

Suddenly I was watching Alpha Nolan and a well built, but shorter than him, woman. Out of nowhere she brandished what I could only assume was a silver switchblade. "I will be choosing you as my mate, and you will not refuse!"

"Death doesn't scare me." The younger Alpha Nolan replied angrily, "Threatening my life won't make a difference."

"What about that bastard son of yours? What's his life worth?" She asked with disdain.

Alpha Nolan's eyes glowed yellow. "How dare you threaten a child, let alone mine!"

She laughed the laugh of a crazy person. "Technically I didn't threaten anyone, I just implied that there's others that could pay for your choices."

"What makes you think I won't just kill you?" He asked as he stepped forward, letting the tip of the blade penetrate his abdomen.

"I have the backing of Luna Eleanor and the council." The woman replied with a sneer. "I have been assured that if I meet an untimely demise, you will find yourself in an infamous torture device for the rest of your days, and your child will be killed before your eyes."

I shuddered at her words. Alpha Nolan didn't flinch. "Guess you'll know my response at the ceremony in two days." He told her, before stepping back and turning into his wolf.

"I trust you will be making the right decision for everyone involved!" She yelled after him.

He ran, full force, for two hours. He stopped when he reached a crappy apartment building in a slum city. He grabbed a pair of pants from a hidden bin, and put them on. Then he charged into the building, up the stairs, and into the apartment at the top.

A long haired brunette was riding a man on her couch. She didn't stop. She just stared at him and demanded, "What are you doing here?"

"I've come for my son!" He snapped back.

"Guess you should have come earlier. " She cockily stated, "He isn't here."

Strangely the man under her didn't care about the intrusion, and kept right on enjoying himself.

Alpha Nolan bellowed, "Where is he?"

"Why should I tell you?" She replied with glee.

"There are people who want to use him as a pawn against me." He told her with a growl, "And you might want to remember that if he dies, there's nothing keeping me from killing you."

The brunette sighed. "He's down the hall at my cousin's house. What are you going to do with him?"

"Hide him somewhere safe." Nolan stated as he stormed back out, slamming the door behind him.

"That was rude." The man on the couch grumbled.

I saw Alpha Nolan storm into another apartment and take his son, who was sleeping, into his arms and storm away without a word to anyone."

The next scene was at the lake. A large stage stood on the sand. Luna Eleanor approached Alpha Nolan and asked, "Are you excited about the ceremony?"

Alpha Nolan growled. "What's there to be excited about?"

"I would think having the first Luna pick you as their mate, despite certain factors, would be an exciting opportunity." Luna Eleanor stated haughtily.

"Using those certain factors to force my decision takes away any joy it might have brought." Alpha Nolan told her, "And I won't be forgetting your role in all this."

"What role?" She replied with a laugh.

Alpha Nolan stated, "You obviously know."

"I simply offered my cousin advice on how to get the mate she wants to agree to be hers." Luna Eleanor claimed with a grin, "There's nothing wrong with that."

"Everything is wrong in the way you advised to do it." Alpha Nolan snapped.

Luna Eleanor laughed maniacally. "Who cares about right and wrong, it's results that matter."

She walked away.

Next thing I see she's standing on the stage and announced, "My dear cousin Marian has the pleasure of being the first Luna to choose her mate."

Marian walked onto the stage with arrogance and determination. She stood in the center, looking at the four men standing in front of the stage. "Alpha Nolan, please join me on stage."

He did so, without showing any reluctance.

She stepped up and announced, "I, Luna Marian, choose you, Alpha Nolan as my mate."

Alpha Nolan smiled mischievously. "I, Alpha Nolan, REJECT you, Luna Marian as my mate!"

Marian let out a piercing scream, as a slash appeared across her back.

Alpha Nolan turned his attention to Luna Eleanor. "Because you, and apparently the council, approved of her heinous actions, you have made the werewolf community an undesirable place to be. I hereby declare myself Rogue!"

He leaped off the stage, turning into his wolf before he landed. Then he disappeared into the darkness.

Another man ran up to Luna Marian. "Don't worry my Luna, I still love you, and I'll care for you." He declared lovingly.

She curled into him, and he picked her up.

"We just never know what's going to happen at these things." Luna Eleanor said, "Will the next Luna please make their choice?"

The scene changed. Luna Eleanor was speaking to a man hidden in the shadows. "Not only did you fail to get him mated, which would have ensured he would never be the mate of the Silver Luna, as we fear he may be." The man stated with disgust, "He's gone Rogue, and is out of our influence."

Luna Eleanor laughed. "Rogue is as good as dead. No self respecting Luna would ever mate a Rogue!"

I snapped awake.

Before I could focus on what I had seen I realized Alpha Nolan was twitching angrily. I pulled him into my arms, resting his head on my chest, as I ran my hand through his hair and whispered, "It's okay, you're safe with your Luna now."

He immediately calmed, and nestled in as he went back into a deep sleep.
