The Sun God Diaries
Chapter Thirty-Nine: Dawson Makes Peace and Finds a Mate

“What the fuck is Dawson Howell here?” was the first thing that left Gavin’s mouth as he, Francisco, and Quentin came into the room where Divinity, Raisha, and I were holding court to talk to the now-chastened and demure brunette werewolf. “He must be trying to work with his brother to gain access on your mating, son.”

Dawson looked up at my glaring werewolf father’s red eyes as Francisco and Quentin (with the latter’s black wings and horns on full display to show off his rage) stood behind him with similar looks of hatred. “Sir, I’m not here on my brother’s behalf, but my own,” he replied. “And as I said back at the ball not too long ago, I want no part of his schemes since I know for a fact that Malachi is bonded to his mates.”

“A likely story,” Francisco huffed. “So why are you here?”

Dawson took a deep breath. “I’m here to warn Malachi about what Ryker can be capable of,” he replied. “He’s not the kind of Alpha werewolf that anyone says ‘no’ to. He can be very persuasive- depending on what his motives are and what he sees in value.”

All three of my fathers turned to me. “Can you trust in what he’s telling you?” Gavin asked me. “He sounds serious, but he still can be a wild-card.”

“He’s speaking the truth,” Raisha piped up. “I was trained to be a huntress, but I’m also an empath and emotion reader as well. His heartbeat remains steady and his voice remained firm. He might be very useful to us.”

I nodded, turning my attention to the brunette Alpha. “Start talking,” I commanded, letting a bit of Perseus show (even though I was in my original form). “Any lie that I think you’re trying to tell will be met with severe punishment.”

Dawson nodded. “I give you my word to be truthful and transparent,” he replied. “Ryker and I were known to be of one heart and mind, according to our parents. Growing up, all we had was each other since none of the kids thought that we were cool enough. Ryker and I were as thick as thieves and we mainly kept to each other’s lifestyles. At one point during middle school, we were...well, intimate and lost our virginities.”

“Wow,” commented Divinity. “So y’all were gay for each other?”

Dawson nodded. “But that all changed when we first shifted on our fourteenth birthday. By then, our personalities changed. I became more apprehensive and cautious while Ryker was the one to be more headstrong, rebellious, caustic, and- at times when he thought was needed- violent and emotionally volatile. But we still had the brotherly bond. And as we became Alphas and leader of our packs back in Laramie after our parents died, we knew that we had to find our mate.”

“So what does it all have to do with Ryker being how he is now and y’all planning to take Malachi away from his mates?” Francisco asked.

“Sir, when it comes to Ryker he’s the kind of guy that no one would dare say no to him. As I said earlier, he can be reckless, emotionally volatile if provoked in the wrong way, caustic, headstrong, and rebellious. When he sees something or someone that he wants, he will go to great lengths to achieve his goal. When in a good mood, he can use only his words with currying favor and even some seduction. But when it’s getting bad or when he’s really ambitious...then he’s liable to do anything and everything:currying favor, seduction, blackmail, and- a couple of times- death threats.”

“Sick bastard,” Divinity seethed.

Dawson nodded. “And when we caught word of Malachi getting ready for his first dates, I at first thought nothing more of Malachi as just an original Omega with a royal title,” he continued. “Uh, no offense.”

“None taken,” I replied. sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ FɪndNøvel.ɴᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Anyway, as time grew on and I learned about Malachi’s shifting into his Sun God Wolf, demigod, and Gorgon forms: I knew that the kid was bound for power that could either make or break anyone. And after Ryker and I met Alyssa and learned of their plans, I knew it was going to be a bust. That’s when I sensed Thebes the djinn and told him that I wanted no part of their schemes.”

“Because you knew of the consequences of trying to break my Great-Grandmother’s bond and go against Her designs,” I deduced, nodding. “You were smart enough to cut losses and begin to defect.”

“Exactly, Your Grace,” Dawson replied. “I may be an Alpha who had a small crush on you, but even I’m not stupid to try something that Ryker is. I don’t know about Alyssa since she took off, but I can speak for myself when I say that I am only here to warn you that Ryker is still on the path to his inevitable demise. He knows what he wants yet he doesn’t see that he can’t have it no matter how hard he tries.”

“You think that your brother could be trying to rise up some rogues to help him?” Gavin asked.

“Possibly, but I know that most of them know about Malachi being the future Sun God Wolf King and they’ll bow out before Ryker could make his case,” Dawson replied firmly. “Same for the rogue hunters. Even so, he might have an ally or two on hand so you might want to spread the word.”

“Say no more,” Quentin said tersely. “I’ll get Iain and Archer to tell all the hunter clans about what you told us, Howell. And I’ll have the word spread out to all the rogues and loners the same.”

“Thank you,” Dawson breathed. “I know it’s not much, but at least I can have a clear conscience. I’m now the lone Alpha leader of my pack back home and I’m not sure if they’ll even want Ryker on their side. If anything, I’m looking for some new allies to help me prevent any more damage my brother will do.”

I looked at Gavin and Francisco, an idea already forming in my head. “Maybe you can form one with us,” I offered. “I know of a few satellite packs and covens here in Colorado, Wyoming, and the Dakotas who are already on our side.”

“Good idea,” Gavin commented. “How about it, Howell?”

Dawson stood up, extending his hand. “Consider the Red Fang pack your satellite pack,” he replied. “I’ll make some calls and let my Betas know.”

The door swung open to reveal a male Omega servant who carried my lunch. “The tutors are on their way, sir,” he said, placing my tray on my desk before stopping at Dawson.

“Mine,” Dawson growled seductively.

“Yours,” the servant replied softly, lowering his neck in submission.

I smirked. “Well, Dawson, it looks like you found your true mate after all,” I drawled. “Or rather, he found you.”

Dawson grinned, wrapping his new mate around his arms. “And I’m glad,” he replied. “Thanks for giving me a second chance, Your Grace.”

“Please, call me Malachi. We are friends, after all.”

Too soon, it was time for everyone else to clear out so I can return to my tutoring sessions. Today’s been very surprising, to say the least. Dawson wasn’t bad after all, just had a bad brother. At least he has a true mate and he’s on our side.

As for Ryker, I had a feeling that I wouldn’t see the last of him yet. And if Dawson was correct, then the rogue Alpha might do what it takes to vainly claim what’s his...one way or another.
