Chapter 30 Life Is Like a Playground 

Liam felt uncomfortable after hearing Henry’s mockery, but he knew he could not blame Gwyneth for being good at keeping her secrets. No one else was to blame but him. 

“Hey! Have you ever seen me single?” Henry shoved Liam with a serious face full of dissatisfaction when Liam teased him back. 

Henry was someone Liam could call his friend in this circle of people. 

Henry owned a showbiz company. Although he seemed a little eccentric, his wisdom and skills were admirable when he was serious. 

Probably because his industry was different, Henry was never short of women, but he also never fell for them. According to his own words, 

life is like a playground. 

From his perspective, the bare minimum for a genuinely loving relationship stems from reciprocity from both sides. With this thought in 

mind, his gaze turned to Gwyneth uncontrollably. She was uninhibited and was always able to strive in her career. There was constantly a 

smile on her face. Pairing up with how she looked with the stride of confidence in her walk, she looked like a swan in the snow; it was the 

perfect ensemble. 

As she was finishing up a chat with someone else, Elizabeth turned around and walked toward Liam after noticing him standing idly not far from her. Just as she was about to say something, she realized that his attention was on none other than Gwyneth. Grimacing, the feeling of bitterness and jealousy filled Elizabeth’s heart. 

Though it was evident that Liam invited her to the event tonight, there was basically zero interaction between them since the reception. With a tight grasp on the glass and words at the tip of her tongue, the sudden realization dropped that she was unfamiliar with the environment that she was in. After hesitating momentarily, she walked toward Gwyneth with a sneer in her heart. 

“Ms. Glen…” she uttered softly. 

Gwyneth had just closed a deal with Wesley and was handing her card over to him. Unbeknownst to her, Gwyneth almost dropped her glass of champagne on Elizabeth’s face after turning around and seeing her standing so close to her face. 

“Ms. Lisle, can I help you with anything?” she said with a fake smile, displaying in the most obvious way that she was not keen on 

conversing with Elizabeth. Though it was soon clear that she had overestimated Elizabeth’s intelligence. 

“Ms. Glen, I just wanted to let you know that what happened back then at Luther Corporation was a misunderstanding and I hope that it’s 

past us.” 

Hearing this, Gwyneth felt greatly relieved as she crossed her arms and sighed: She’s so annoying. I bet this apology has some ulterior 

motives behind it.” 

Elizabeth expected that Gwyneth would engage in this conversation, but she was surprised when the air was filled with awkward silence. The interaction and the facial expressions between them were so awkward that Wesley, a bystander at this point, had to hold back before 

he burst into laughter. 

‘She looks hideous with that makeup and fake smile of hers.” 

“Ms. Glen…” Elizabeth uttered softly. 

Gwyneth chuckled inwardly as Elizabeth repeated her name while eventually opening up. “You should address me respectfully if you’re planning on conversing with me. Don’t you think?” 

A sudden wielding of authority striking down on Elizabeth had her feeling more baffled than she did before. Feeling hopeless, she realized that Liam’s attention must still be on them, which gave her the courage she needed. 

“Ms. Glen, I wanted to give my most sincere apology. I’m sorry that Liam chose me over you as his date for tonight.” 

It was clear from the beginning that this was all about Liam. 

“So, this one’s for you.” Elizabeth held her glass up. 

This was the final straw, as Gwyneth left out a chuckle. Shooting right across Elizabeth, Gwyneth’s eyes were on Liam, and it was apparent when their eyes met. 

Ideally, it would’ve been better for Gwyneth if Liam was like how he was before, where he couldn’t even look her in the eyes. 

“Ms. Lisle, I appreciate the sentiment, but I’m afraid I won’t be drinking this.” Gwyneth sighed as she handed the glass over to Wesley. 

“And as for the date, I think you’ve badly misread the situation. I was cordially invited to this event, whereas you wouldn’t have even been able to set foot in here if someone didn’t ask you out.” 

Gwyneth turned around right after dropping this truth bomb on Elizabeth without giving her a chance to respond. 

Compared to Elizabeth, Gwyneth had no free time to deal with all this unnecessary drama, like being tangled up in a love triangle. 

Being left on the spot, Elizabeth stared at Gwyneth with her fiery eyes wide open as if she wanted to burn her alive. Noticing that she had caught Liam’s attention, she tilted her wrist, and wine poured down her dress. Liam walked over in huge strides after seeing what Elizabeth did, and he was unhappy. 

Before he could even say anything, Elizabeth defended herself: “Liam, I just wanted to have a drink with Ms. Glen and thank her for the surgery, but she just walked all over me…” 

“Your dress is dirty. Let me send you home.” 

He replied calmly without acknowledging what she had said. They left the venue with his hand wrapped around Elizabeth. 

While they were walking out, he took one last glimpse at Gwyneth, who was in the midst of the crowd.
