Chapter 74 Someone Will Do the Dirty Job 

Elizabeth couldn’t remember when the meeting had ended or how she had made her way back to her office. Alone in her chair, she gazed at the hurriedly jotted meeting minutes in her notebook, her mind in turmoil. 

She had been by Liam’s side for so many years, yearning for his divorce from Gwyneth. During those days, she would daydream incessantly about how Liam would propose to her. However, Gwyneth, the woman whom Liam had never previously displayed any interest in, had now become a thorn in her side. Elizabeth had naively believed that erasing the digital traces of that lire and gradually distancing Gwyneth from Liam would suffice. Yet now, she realized her folly. 

Biting her lip, Elizabeth hesitated before finally grabbing her phone and dialing a number. 

“Hi, Kingsley.”

As she listened to the voice on the phone, Elizabeth silently smirked. A trace of disdain flickered across her face. In truth, she held nothing but contempt for this person. 

Kingsley Leed was one of the rich kids in the upper–class society. Despite his involvement with various women, his infatuation with Elizabeth had remained unwavering over the years. While he had dated numerous women, his feelings for Elizabeth had never faltered. 

On the contrary, Elizabeth had no thoughts of genuine affection for Kingsley: she saw him merely as a means to an end. Whenever she found herself in challenging situations while still by Liam’s side, she would turn to Kingsley for help. Kingsley willingly allowed himself to be used by Elizabeth, without harboring any resentments. 

“Well it has been quite some time since we last spoke. How have you been?” Elizabeth reluctantly played her part, but she paid little attention to the joyous tone emanating from the other end of the line. 

After casually exchanging a few pleasantries, Elizabeth finally got to the point. “Kingsley, do you have a moment? I would like to meet you. I have something to ask of you.” 

Kingsley knew that Elizabeth wouldn’t have called if it weren’t for something important. But the thought of being able to see the woman he admired filled him with excitement. He nodded in agreement, his eagerness so palpable that he yearned to step out of her phone screen and be with her immediately. 

Realizing the need for swiftness, Elizabeth wasted no time. She arranged to meet Kingsley that very afternoon at a nearby coffee shop, not far from Luther Corporation. 

Elizabeth intentionally arrived much earlier because she needed time to set the desired mood. When Kingsley walked in, he found Elizabeth with teary eyes, her entire countenance filled with a sorrow that seemed as though she had been bullied. Witnessing the woman he admired in such a state was almost unbearable for him. He couldn’t even settle into his chair before anxiously blurting out, “Elizabeth, what happened? Did someone mistreat you? Please, tell me!” 

“It’s not… no one mistreated me. It’s just that I feel so inept,” Elizabeth waved her hand, her expression growing even more forlorn. With her exceptional acting skills, tears welled up in her eyes, ready to fall any moment. 

“Elizabeth, please don’t do this. You’re going to drive me crazy. Tell me what’s going on!” Kingsley had a short temper, seeing Elizabeth in such distress heightened his anxiety even further. 

As Kingsley reacted this way, Elizabeth couldn’t help but smile inwardly. She then pretended to be in a state of great difficulty and softly spoke, “It’s Liam’s ex–wife, Gwyneth Glen… Sh–She’s always despised me and tried to humiliate me…” 

For the next while, Elizabeth kept her head down, wiping away tears while pouring out her grievances about Gwyneth to Kingsley. She played the role of a helpless, oppressed woman devoid of strength to fight back. Once she finished her complaints, Elizabeth covered her face with both hands, suppressing a laugh, for she was confident that Kingsley would unquestionably come to her aid. 

Although Kingsley’s father appeared to be an ordinary wealthy man on the surface, he was actually involved in organized crimes, with the family business serving as a front for money laundering. Before Kingsley was reinstated into the Leed family, he had endured considerable mistreatment at the hands of others. 

On one fateful day, Elizabeth was having dinner with Liam when they coincidentally stumbled upon Kingsley, who bore the visible wounds of an altercation. In the past, she would have kept her distance from someone in such a state, solely due to her aversion to uncleanliness. 

However, when she heard Liam’s footsteps trailing behind her, a sudden idea struck her. Stepping forward, she reached into her pocket and retrieved a handkerchief, offering it to Kingsley to tend to his wounds. 

Liam gently asked when he saw it, Who is he? A trace of confusion flickered across his face. 

Elizabeth explained. “Oh, I don’t know this person. I simply saw that he was badly hurt, so I took out my handkerchief to help clean his 

wounds.”
