Chapter 99 An Investigation Lead 

‘It really has been long.‘ Gwyneth thought as she nodded to Hayden. She had not seen him ever since she returned from studying abroad. Gwyneth frequently received calls and texts from Hayden initially, but she always tried to put him off. Hayden was smart and naturally fell that she was avoiding him. So, the two lost contact sometime after that. 

Although Hayden treated Gwyneth well, she always fell weirded out by it. But aside from the sudden increase in affection, the two were really good friends initially, especially since he had saved her life. 

The corner of Gwyneth’s lips twitched slightly. She wanted to thank Hayden when more sounds of footsteps came from outside. She looked over Hayden’s shoulders and saw a group of policemen had arrived. She also noticed that Liam was one of the people who led 

them there. 

Gwyneth’s eyes flowed with emotions seeing that man’s face, while Liam’s heart almost stopped beating when he saw her. 

Liam walked toward her in big steps and checked her out from top to bottom. He let out a sigh of relief after making sure that she was safe. The two had known each other for a long time, yet this was the first time he had seen her in such a poor state. 

Hayden did not note the look on Gwyneth’s face, nor did he pay any attention to who had rushed to the scene. Instead, he lowered his head, removed his coat, and put it directly over Gwyneth’s shoulders. 

Gwyneth did not bother to worry about these little matters right now. She did not even have the energy to deal with it. She immediately stepped forward with serious look when she saw the police walk in. “Sir, the kidnappers escaped through the back door a few minutes ago.” 

The captain leading the team nodded to his member, and all of them got into action. The officer then looked at Gwyneth and let out a long sigh. 

“Are you hurt, Ms. Glen?” 

“I’m fine, and so is my secretary. Thank you for getting here so quickly.” 

The captain wanted to cry when he heard this. ‘Looks like I won’t lose my job,‘ he thought. 

After Gwyneth gave a report and went through the general procedures, Liam could no longer hold himself back. He had wanted to take this woman in his arms the moment he laid eyes on her. 

Liam approached Gwyneth and blocked off everyone else. “Are you alright? Are you hurt? Were you scared?” He asked, about to grab Gwyneth’s hand to check if she was actually okay. However, someone got in his way before he could reach out to her. 

Liam slowly looked up, narrowed his eyes, and glared at the man before him. Hayden stared at Liam with scrutiny, like a dagger was hidden behind his deep gaze. 

“Who’s this?” Liam asked with indifference. He saw the jacket on Gwyneth’s shoulders, and his face darkened even more. 

“Hayden Hut,” Gwyneth replied without any elaboration. 

Hayden smirked slightly and stretched his hand to Liam, who shook it at first sight. Even though it was a brief handshake, their hostility was hard to ignore. 

Gwyneth had a headache when she saw this happen. “Why do I have so much to deal with today? I really feel like crying,‘ she thought. She then turned around, and when she was about to say something to the police, Elizabeth rushed into the warehouse unexpectedly. 

Elizabeth was panting, which showed that Liam’s footsteps were too fast for her to handle. As soon as she entered the room, her eyes were fixated on Gwyneth. She could not help but look at her timidly. 

Gwyneth’s face was covered with dust at that time, while a jacket that did not belong to her draped over her shoulders. Her long hair was messy, and her shirt was torn. She looked wretched. 

Elizabeth was overjoyed when she saw that. She thought that the kidnappers had successfully done what Kingsley had ordered. After some consideration, she hurried forward with a worried look. 

“Oh, thank god you’re okay. Ms. Glen. Those people are monsters. It’s good to see that you’re alive no matter what they did to you.” Elizabeth said, struggling to manage a reassuring smile.

No one cared about what she had to say then, and Gwyneth was not buying it. However, she suddenly remembered something when Elizabeth mentioned the kidnappers. 

“Captain, I’ve wounded the kidnappers in self–defense, so I think they would be easy to find.” Gwyneth stepped forward to stop the policeman who was about to leave. “I’ve also heard them talk about the person who hired them. It’s someone called Kingsley Leed.”
