I was sitting criss cross on my bed, Ethan in front of me. Now that I was back, it was established that Ethan and I were to share a room together. I was tracing the lines on his palms, just enjoying his company.

“Are you having fun?” He asked. I looked up at him and he was smirking down at me. I rolled my eyes playfully. “I’m just bored.” I said. “Well you should stop being so bored.” He said. I poked his chest. “You should entertain me.” I laughed. He smiled, “Nah I’m good.” He kissed my cheek before standing up. He took my hand and pulled me to my feet. I looked up at him, his eyes sparkling. He bent his head down and placed a soft kiss on my lips. I smiled into the kiss. “I know what I want to do.” I said. “And what’s that?” Ethan asked. “I want to see Max.” I said. He nodded and intertwined our fingers as we walked down the halls. When we reach Max’s room I stopped walking. Ethan turned to me.

“Are okay?” He asked. I nodded and we walked inside the room. Max was lying in what looked like a hospital bed. I felt myself choke up as I walked over to my brother. I placed my hand over his and realized that he was cold. Ethan placed his hand on my shoulder, I looked up at him tears pricked my eyes. This is all my fault, I’m the reason that this happened to Max. Ethan wrapped his arm around me as I cried into his chest. “Come on, lets go.” Ethan whispered. I nodded and kissed Max’s forehead before walking out of the room. We walked out of the room, one of the maids standing there waiting.

“Miss.Snow, the queen requests your presence, please follow me.” She said. I nodded and followed, Ethan said he would meet me back at the room. When we reached a large door, the maid nodded to the guards and they opened the door.

“She’s in there.” I nodded and walked inside. Anna was sitting on the couch, talking with Maliya. When I reached them , they smiled and stood.

“What did I do now?” I asked. Anna laughed. “Nothing my dear, Maliya would like to speak with you.” She said. I sat on the couch in front of them. “I’m leaving.” Was the first thing she said. “I have a whole world to go back to,” she stopped for a moment and looked at Pegasus. “and I would like you to take care of Pegasus for me. You did it well before you found me, and I would like it if you would carry on the responsibility.” She smiled. I looked over at Pegasus and smiled, “Yes, I would love to take care of her.” I said. Maliya nodded and stood. Pegasus made her way over to her. Maliya rubbed her nose,

“When ever you need her, she’ll be there.” She said. I smiled and hugged her, “I’ll miss you.” I said. She smiled and pulled away. “I’ll miss you to.” Anna stood and hugged Maliya.

“You should get ready, Snow, I’d like to talk to you in private.” Maliya left the room and I sat next to Anna. She took my hands in hers. “It’s so great to have you back, we missed you around here.” She said. I smiled, “Yes, I’m sorry for leaving, I was just stressed out.” I said. Anna smiled,

“He proved that he would do anything for you, when he moved your best friends and their family’s here for you. He truly does love you, even if you weren’t shifters, I could see him still loving you.” She said. I smiled softly. “I love him to.” I whispered. “That’s great. Now, there’s the matter of you becoming queen,” this is the conversation I’ve been dreading. “since Ethan is the eldest prince, he will become king, and you will be his queen. You two are to be married. But we do not know the date. But nothing will happen without you knowing.” She said. I smiled,

“Thank you Anna, I’m happy to be back.” I said. We stood and hugged. “Now, go back to Ethan.” She said. I smiled when someone burst into the room,

“Your highness, it’s Max, there’s something wrong with him.” The guard said. I looked at Anna and ran out of the room. I ran down the hallway, past Zach and Ethan. I burst open the door to Max’s room, my parents were already there, so was Abby and Jake. There was a bunch of people gathered around Max. I walked up to my parents,

“Mom what’s happening?” I asked. “When he was stabbed, a piece of the knife broke off and it’s still there and it’s stuck scraping on his lung.” My mom said. I felt tears prick my eyes, no Max. That’s when everything went bad, we were sent out of the room while that dealt with Max. I began to pace in the hall.

“Snow, honey you have to calm down.” My mom said. “I can’t, not while Max is in there, it’s all my fault.” I said. Ethan grabbed me and turned me to face him. “Snow, none of this is your fault.” He said. The door opened again and a man stepped out of the room. He had a sad look on his face and what he said next killed me.

“I’m sorry to tell you this, but we’ve lost him.” He said. I put my hand over my mouth and choked out a gasp. No, I’ve lost my brother, and it’s all my fault. They let us go in and see him, but I couldn’t bring my self to do it. I stayed in the hall, Ethan by my side. I can’t believe that he died, and it’s all my fault. I then remembered, Maliya, Max mated on her! I stood and went to find her. I told Ethan to stay behind. I slowly walked to Maliya’s room, my feet feeling like they were anchors. I knocked on her door and she opened it, smiling at me. When she saw my face, she ushered me into the room. Chloe was in here helping her pack.

I hesitated before telling her, “Max died.” I said. She sat there, frozen, not speaking, not moving, I don’t even think she was breathing. Then she threw her arms around me and cried. We cried together at the loss of a brother and a mate. Jade or Maliya, I don’t know it’s hard to keep rack now, eventually fell asleep. I laid her down and covered her up,

“Keep an eye on her Chloe.” I said, she nodded and I walked out of the room. I walked to mine and Ethan’s room. I opened the door and looked around, Ethan wasn’t in here. I opened my closet and picked out a pair of pajamas. I changed into plaid shorts and a black tank top. I got in bed and laid down, my back against the wall. Even though I couldn’t sleep I tried my best to sleep. Ethan walked into the room and laid beside me. He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into his chest. The second his arms were around me I cried. I cried into his chest, he whispered soothing things into my ears. I clutched his shirt and cried.

“It’s all my fault.” I whispered. “No, it’s not your fault.” He said. I shook my head, not believing him. He cupped both my cheeks with his hands.

“It’s not your fault, Papillon, no one blames you for this.” He said. I got up from the bed and began to pace to the room. I heard him sit up from the bed. “Snow,” he said, I turned to him

“I have to tell Jade that Max died today.” I said. “Jade don’t you mean Maliya?” He asked. I shook my head. “She may be Maliya, but deep down, it’s still Jade.” I said. “Why did you have to tell Jade?” He asked. “Max mated on her.” He sat there shocked. I leaned against the wall and slid down.

“I don’t understand. Why did this have to happen?” I asked. I pulled my legs up to my chest and wrapped my arms around them. Ethan stood walked over and bent down in front of me and took my hand. “I’m sorry, about everything, what happened to Max, you getting kidnapped but Natalie and almost being killed. I’m sorry for it all.” He said. I wrapped my arms around him and cried. I hated it. I hated showing my feelings to him. But I couldn’t help it, he was my mate, and I loved him.

He picked me up and sat on the bed, putting me in his lap. He moved the hair out of my face and cupped my cheek. “Shh Papillon it’s okay.” He whispered. I cried for what seem like forever. Finally I started to feel tired and fell asleep to the soothing voice of my mate.

When I awoke sunlight was peering through the window, I felt arms around my waist, I looked up and saw Ethan sleep peacefully. He was snoring softly. I smiled and got out of bed. I changed into a pair of black skinny jeans, a white tank top with a gray knitted sweater. I decided to go bare foot. I wiped my face from crying so hard, I changed my piercings and walked back into the bedroom. Ethan was still sleeping, I kissed his cheek and walked out of the room.

“Good morning your highness.” The guards said. I nodded, “Good morning.” I said. I walked down the halls. I walked into the dinning hall, the royal family was already there, as was Abby, Jake, and their parents. I looked around for my parents but they weren’t there. I sat beside Abby and and grabbed my hand.

“Hey, how are you doing?” She asked. “I’ve been better.” I mumbled. She smiled sadly at me. I slowly ate my breakfast. When I was finished I stood and walked out of the hall,

“Snow, wait!” I turned and Zach and John were running towards me. “What do you want?” I asked. I was crankier then usual but I had a good reason, I mean my brother was killed because of me.

“Your parents are in Max’s room, they want to see you.” Zach said. “We’ll walk you there.” John said. I followed slowly behind the brothers. Max’s room was the last place I want to go. When we reached the room, I walked inside. My parents were there, so was Jade and Chloe. My eyes drifted to the bed, my brother was lying there, his eyes were closed and he looked pale. I looked away from him,

“Why did you call me here?” I asked. “We’re planning Max’s funeral, and we need your help.” My mom said. Great, now I have to plan my brother’s funeral, my life just couldn’t get any better.
