Two Alphas, One Mate
Extraction: Part 3

Damian

Eric and Aaron both went silent ever since he took control over the network. It was quiet, and Adam and I hung like pieces of meat outside, waiting for their signal. I was worried, but at least we could block the signals coming in and out of the building. sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ Find ɴøᴠel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

The large skyscraper like hospital was located in the city center. It got a little messy creating a perimeter, but we got the job done and now it was all up to Eric to assist with locating Diana.

Adam had a few of his own pack members accompany Aaron and Eric for the extraction of Diana. I couldn’t deny stacking more warriors with them, the more the merrier.

I was going to wait a few more minutes until we breached one of the exterior windows, and in the meantime, it was small chit chat with Diana’s brother as we swung on rappelling ropes several floors off the ground.

“When did you realize it was my sister?” Adam asked.

“The moment I set eyes on her.” I was beginning to have a flashback of the day we first met, and I couldn’t help to let out a small smile.

I could still remember the way she looked at me with her menacing blue eyes. She was angry of our intrusion, and who could blame her. In a weird way it made her more irresistible. It was a small detail I’ll keep to myself and cherish forever.

“Was that before or after you kidnapped her?”

I narrowed my eyes to Adam, “Really? I took her away from that bastard.”

He chuckled lightly, “I’m just yanking your tail… And on a side note, I didn’t realize Holden had a brother.”

“Technically half-brother, and no, I don’t consider him my brother. Just because we share the same mother doesn’t mean shit.”

“He will pay for what he did, and I hope you will allow me to do it.”

“If the opportunity arises, of course, however, Holden is my size. You think you can take him on? I mean… I know you are an Alpha, and you are strong, but my brother… He’s something else.”

Adam’s eyes went cold as he looked down to the city streets below, “I’ll die trying.”

I placed my hand on his shoulder, “We’ll both kill him if we have to. You’re not dying again. Diana needs you just as she needs me.” I sighed heavily, “She needs her family.”

He looked to me with eyes full of emotion, like he was trying to hold back the tears. “I never got to say goodbye to my father that night, he took that opportunity away from me.”

“I’m sorry…”

“Its fine, I’m over grieving, and the only thing on my mind is getting that son of a bitch so I can move on with my life.”

“I share the same affliction; however, vengeance is a rocky slope. It can change you. Just be careful…”

I began recollecting the past few days; all the warriors I killed, the scouts, the ones begging for their lives, and I just wiped them out without batting an eye.

All because they were allied to my brother.

I was no better than Holden, and I realized that now, but it was a little too late. I was going to have to live with those decisions for the rest of my life. I couldn’t blame my severed connection to my mate for going on a murdering rampage, and if I get her back, I was going to tell her everything.

I was going to tell her how weak I was when she was gone, and how I succumbed to my inner beast. I was going to tell her how much I avoided sleeping in my own bed because she wasn't there.

I was going to tell her everything because I was nothing without her.

I was weak.

I was a killer.

I was a fucking monster.

But it would be all for nothing if I didn't get her back, so for now, I was going to have to wait. My only focus now was to save her, and any casualties today would have to be minimized. I already had some of my men escorting the human staff out of the main floor of the building that we occupied.

“Speaking of vengeance…How many do you think Loki killed before he – you know, ended himself.”

There was no denying in what Adam was referring to.

It was Loki.

There was an explosion that came from the basement security room. I suppose Loki had his fail safe after all, and now there was no way in hell Holden could regain assess to the security system.

This was the only way to maintain control over the building, and I would never forget his sacrifice.

“I wished there was another way...”

Was I really beginning to feel guilt for his death? I was finally on a good track with him, making amends, and this was the end for him. It didn’t feel real for a moment, and I couldn’t help to feel sorrow, especially for Hippolyta.

Loki realized Fenrir pack was nothing without their Luna. I was growing weaker, and it was a secret that I kept from everyone, but Loki realized that the moment he came back. Now that I was bonded to Diana, without her by my side made me weaker, and the safety of our pack was compromised.

“That’s what separates us from the humans,” Adam coldly looked down to the streets.

I didn’t have quarrels with humans, but he was right. Most of the ones we encountered had questionable intentions, however, there were still many werewolves that I’ve known over the years who have been worse.

“Loyalty and family. It’s engrained in our DNA,” I replied.

“Our family makes or breaks us, don’t you think?”

I thought about my family for a brief moment. I was so blessed to have my father and mother, loving me unconditionally. I would love them the same way with our babies once they were born, but now, it was all in question. I was unsure if I would be able to get the opportunity, and I grew angry the more I thought about it.

My jaw clenched tightly as I tried to hold back my emotion, “If I lose her… It will be the death of me,” I muttered.

“She’s my sister, she’s strong, she will make it.”

I didn’t reply, instead, I looked up to the top of the building, strategizing each scenario in my head if things turned upside down. I had to keep my emotions in check and focus on the mission. I appreciated Adam’s honesty and optimism, but now was not the time to hope, now was the time to fight.

“How much longer should we hang here?” Adam peered down the scale of the building.

It was a windy day, and our bodies hung on the harnesses several floors from the ground. I wasn’t afraid of heights, but most were, and I think Adam was getting weary hanging freely off a large building.

“Eric is supposed to relay to me when he finds Diana and Holden. We are going to Holden first, then Aaron, Eric and your men are heading to Diana.”

“We should be the ones retrieving her…”

“I thought you wanted to kill Holden?”

“I do but…”

I cut him off, “She’s more important.”

“Aaron and Eric wouldn’t be able to kill him, it has to be us.”

“Exactly, thinking how an Alpha should think. Weighing out options and making hard decisions is what an Alpha has to do. Do you know how hard it is not going to find her myself and leaving it to Eric and Aaron? I would be sending them to slaughter if I put them against Holden.”

“Lets just kill him and get the hell out of this dirty city.” He looked down to the people walking below. It was evening time, the sun was nearly down, and the streetlights were on. There was something about being in the city that felt wrong. It wasn’t like home. Diana hated the city, and I could understand why.

“Eric, where are you?” I mind linked to Eric, but again there was nothing.

“Where the fuck is he?” I muttered to myself.

“What’s our plan B if he doesn’t respond?”

“Go down floor by floor until we find him.”

“Are you serious? Do you know how long that will take?”

“Do you have a better idea?”

“No…”

“Well then,” I adjusted my strap and started climbing onto the rope, “We’ll start from the top and work our way down. We already have this entire building surrounded, and no signals are getting in and out, which means no reinforcements for Holden. He’s trapped in there somewhere and we will find him.”

Adam nodded and proceeded to climb, “Let’s get this son of a bitch.”

...

We scaled the building, practically racing to the top.

“Pace yourself, don’t lose balance,” I subtly spoke to Adam who was a couple steps a head of me.

As we hit the twentieth floor, we both slowed our pace, hoping to stay silent in case there was anyone snooping around the windows.

“I got this,” he stopped for a brief moment and waited for me to catch up.

“We can go fast, but we must be careful until we breach the first window.”

“Sorry, just anxious…”

“Its ok, we’ll get to the top soon,” I replied.

We were almost to the 24th floor.

I looked down for a moment and my heart started to beat a little faster. It wasn’t beating fast because of the height; it was because I was getting closer to Diana. I was anxious to get this over with just as much as Adam, but we had to be smart about it. We were outnumbered, I was weakened, and Diana was in a vulnerable state.

We were going to start from the top and work our way down. It was going to be time consuming, but it was the only way to find Holden. He had to be somewhere close by because I could smell light traces of him, and at the same time, I could smell my Di.

“Still nothing from Eric?” Adam asked.

“Nothing.”

I tried mind linking Eric, over and over again, but there was only silence. Even the comm links were down. I wasn’t sure if it was the signal block from the network, but we had zero communication with the two of them.

“Once we find Holden, go find your sister. I can trust you to find her. I can’t hear shit from Aaron and Eric, and we need a backup plan if something happened to them.” Just saying the words backup plan turned my stomach. I couldn’t imagine what I would do if Eric died. He was my best friend since we were children, and he wasn’t only my Beta, he was practically my brother.

Adam swallowed hard and his face dropped, “I said I want to take him down…”

“What’s more important, vengeance or saving your sister?” I understood where he was coming from, but at the end of the day, I was the only one that was capable of killing Holden. I couldn’t leave it to chance to have Adam killed and Holden escape the hospital.

He sighed heavily, “I know I can do it…But saving Diana is more important.”

We approached the top window slowly.

I signaled Adam silently using my hand, gesturing him to back up. I was going to plow through the window with my gun then jump through.

I used my fingers. Only three seconds was needed for him to brace for impact, then he would follow suit.

I held my fingers up.

I could yell go, but he got the gist and backed up as I rammed my gun hard into the window.

The glass was tempered, and the hard slam with the end of my assault rifle almost shattered it. Next time I would have to use my feet to break through, in fear I would break my gun completely.

The loud crash of glass was my queue to enter.

I rolled into the room and somersaulted into position, pointing my gun to the closed door in case someone entered.

The room was empty, so I moved out of the way to allow Adam to enter.

“Clear,” I harshly whispered.

Adam jumped through in the same fashion, and kept his gun up, pointing it everywhere in the empty examination room.

The room resembled a high-tech doctors office, pure white, immaculately clean, and medical devices and machines that were scattered on one side of the room.

“Nothing?” Adam raised his eyebrows, obviously disappointed to an empty room.

I inhaled the air, I could smell Diana, but she was far.

“Nothing, this entire floor is empty. Strange…”
