The call got through, and Elio’s voice came over.
“What are you up to this time?”
“Aren’t you planning to return home? Why do you seem so calm?”
“… What did you do to Clara?!” Elio’s mood obviously got heated.
“What could I possibly do to her?” Leah laughed. “You should’ve guessed what I’m planning by now, right?”
“Leah! You can’t ruin Clara’s happiness She’s barely made it this far, you can’t meddle
“Why can’t I? If their love is strong enough, my meddling won’t change a thing! If their love is shaky to begin with and there’s no trust, then I’m doing them a favor by pulling them apart. What did I do wrong?”

And let’s be honest, a guy like Emmett, I’m not the only one eyeing him! If I snatch him up, won’t it be beneficial for the Milburns, the Calloways, and you?”
The other end of the line went silent.
Leah’s tone softened.
She said quietly, “I’m doing this for your own good! Can’t you see that? We’re family, don’t you think I understand you? You’re basically giving up! Are you really going to just give up?”
“I’ve never seen you care this much about a woman. Emmett, who just swooped in out of nowhere, he shouldn’t have even appeared! I asked Clara, she said if Emmett hadn’t come into the picture, she would’ve been with you!”
“Did Clara really say that?”
“Absolutely, I swear!”
Elio went silent again. Leah knew he must be wavering.
“Think about it, you’ve given so much and now you have nothing! Alex is calling another man ‘dad‘, Clara is sleeping next to Emmett, and you, you’ve got nothing! Think about it, am I wrong?”
“Leah, you’ve been trying to convince me, what exactly do you want me to do? Just spit it out.”
Leah smiled, “What can I do for you? I really wish you could come back home and give me a hand! Let’s plan this together! Once I marry Emmett and you get back with Clara, won’t we all be happy? Why should you spend your nights alone?”
“Leah, I had no idea you were this kind of person! If I had known, I would’ve definitely-”
“Definitely what?” Leah cut him off, “Definitely wouldn’t have let me in on this, to play your little game? Don’t you see, I’m doing all this for your own good, I just want you to benefit as well! If you hadn’t included me, how would I have met Emmett? And how could I help you win back Clara? No one else could do this!”
