What else could Alex do besides shut up and take it?
“I get it.”
“Start doing your homework! I’m going to check on Granny after I finish mine, then I’ll come back and help you with whatever you don’t understand.”
“Sure! You better get going then.”
As luck would have it, he could slack off a little.
Aiden saw right through Alex’s intentions, “Wait till I get back; I want to see how much homework you’ve done! Don’t you dare think you can play with your toys as soon as I’m out the door!”
In her room, Clara quickly changed clothes, showered, and reviewed the meeting notes.
To avoid disturbing her, Emmett went to the study to hold a video conference.
They both were busy for a few hours.
Emmett finished his meeting first, and when he entered the bedroom, he found Clara still taking notes seriously.
He took a closer look…
She had drawn several chart frameworks.
“You’re rushing this… You’ve got plenty of time!” Emmett took the pen from her hand, “Go to bed early! You have work tomorrow and must accompany me to a cocktail party.”
Clara was startled and asked, “Huh? What party do I need to attend?”
Her identity was known to only a few people!
“The Melendez family’s old friend, the Flaherty family’s heir, Whitlock Flaherty, is getting married, and I need to bring a date. I can’t possibly… take another woman, can I?”
Clara was a bit worried, “If I go, wouldn’t our relationship be exposed?”
“No, don’t overthink it!” Emmett said helplessly, “I mostly want you to meet the Flaherty family. Whitlock Flaherty and I go way back. He won’t mind you and won’t spill the beans. As for others… Besides being my wife and a designer, aren’t you also my secretary? That’s how I’ll explain our relationship.”
“Will they believe it?”

Other than nodding, Clara had nothing more to say.
“Hey, speaking of which! You said you and Whitlock Flaherty go way back; how come I’ve never heard you mention him before?”
She didn’t remember ever meeting the guy!
“He’s always been abroad and probably wouldn’t have returned if not for the wedding! He’s only staying for a few days, and I’ll leave again after the wedding.”
Clara nodded, “All right, I listen to you!”
Emmett ran his fingers through her hair, “Go to sleep! I’m pooped.”
“All right, I’ll sleep now.” Clara blinked, initially planning to read after he fell asleep. But she was so tired that she fell asleep right away.
She slept in Emmett’s arms till morning.
Clara opened her eyes, looking somewhat vexed.
She had planned to draw some diagrams and discuss them with her colleagues in the design department at the office today.
Clara couldn’t help but complain a bit as she said, “It’s all your fault, and I haven’t finished drawing.”
