Clara said helplessly, “You’re such a worrywart, but no one will come and take you and Aiden away. Now, go take a bath and hit the hay soon. And remember, don’t spill the beans about this to anyone, especially your dad, got it?”
Alex nodded, “Got it. Even if Dad bribes me with ten candies, I won’t squeal.”
“Not even for twenty candies.”
Alex laughed, “Gotcha. Night, Mom.”
Clara sighed helplessly.
Back in her room, Clara looked at her phone, wondering if she should call Elio.
Or should she ask Leah directly?
To avoid making Emmett green with envy, she made sure he was busy in the study before sneaking off to the suite to call Elio.
The phone rang a few times before he picked up.
“Calling me this late, aren’t you afraid of making Emmett jealous?”
“I have something to ask you.” Clara went straight to the point, “Has Leah been with you these days?”
Elio was silent for a few seconds before answering, “Why are you suddenly asking about her?”
“Because Alex said he saw Leah and Emmett’s mother together today, they seemed to be chatting well.”
“Oh, I don’t know. I’ve been swamped lately.”
“That’s fine then. Maybe I’m just overthinking.” Clara felt a bit awkward, “About last time, I…”
“You don’t need to explain anything to me; you’ll leave Emmett sooner or later. I’ll wait for you to come back to me.” He then hung up.
Clara looked at her phone, feeling troubled.
Why was Elio’s tone so strange now, and why was he so confident?
Did he know something else? Or was there a secret between him and Leah?
This thought made Clara uneasy.
Suddenly, her bedroom door was opened.
Emmett walked in, looked at Clara, and frowned, “What’s up?”
“Nothing.” Clara put away her phone, “The bath’s ready. Why don’t you go take a shower?”
Together?”
“I’ve already taken one.” Clara waved her hand, “You go first. I have something to ask you later.”
Emmett sensed something was off, so he sat down next to her.
“You go shower first. It’s not a big deal.”
Emmett put his arm around her shoulder, “Whatever you want to ask, I think it’s important.”
Clara rolled her eyes, “Actually, I just wanted to ask, does your mom often go to that cake shop?”
“Cake shop?” Emmett raised his eyebrow, “The one Aiden and Alex love?”
“Yep.” Clara nodded.
“She goes there pretty often. Because Aiden loves it, and my mom spoils him, so she always buys from there.” Emmett looked into her eyes, “What’s up? Is she giving you a hard time again?”
Clara quickly waved her hand, “No way! You’re overthinking things.”
“If’she ever does anything to upset you, let me know. Don’t bear it alone.”
“All right.”
Emmett reached out and gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, “I’ll go take a shower now,”
“Okay!”
Watching his retreating figure, Clara suddenly asked, “Emmett! Have you been in touch with Aiden’s birth mother lately?”
