EPILOGUE

“You’re getting married this Saturday, isn’t that a little fast? I mean he’s only been here and back with you for three days,” Eve said skeptically.

“I know it may seem that way to you Aunt Eve but we love each other. It’s as though faith had brought us together and we don’t see any reason to wait. I was hoping you would be happy for me, I really want you there.”

“I can see that dear and after you get married you both must come back to my place for lunch and a drink. Will you at least give your old aunty that much since you’re depriving me of a big wedding to arrange?”

Saturday: “Jade, Jade can you come here please,” Zane called out. He stood with his arms crossed looking down at his white shirt that lay on the bed. This was his wedding day and his brand new shirt was ruined.

Just stepping out of the shower she wrapped a towel around her and went into the bedroom when she heard him calling. “What’s wrong?” she asked him.

“Will you just look at that,” he pointed to the bed.

Jade burst out laughing, there curled up into a ball inside his shirt was mittens, asleep. She had scratched it, leaving holes and it had black fur all over it. “He’s just showing you how much he likes you by using your shirt as a bed.”

“Not now, we have to be at the church in an hour.” Placing her hands on his chest gave him a light shove. “There’s another shirt in the closet. I need to get finished dressing and so do you.”

When he saw her enter the living room thirty minutes later his heart did a flip. She wore her hair down, just the way he liked it. She had on a short white dress with high heels, a gold chain around her neck and matching earrings. She was a vision of beauty. “You look so beautiful. I can’t believe you will soon be my wife. I am the luckiest man alive.”

“I’m the lucky one,” she replied.

Eve was waiting for them at the church and the ceremony began. It was a simple one, they had their own vows they wrote. After being pronounced man and wife he lifted her up off her feet and kissed her before setting her back down. He wanted to go right back home and tear off her dress but they had promised to go back to her aunt’s place.

The moment I laid eyes on her I knew she was different from the other women I knew, she was meant to be mine.” He looked over at Jade who was talking to another man. “Jenny, Joey, what have I told you about coming into mommy and daddy’s bedroom?” he asked as he tickled each one of them. No way could he be mad at his two little miracles. He and Jade wanted kids right away but after a couple of years they gave up, and they were told she might not be able to conceive. But then they were blessed with twins, their lives were now complete.

“Sorry Daddy, but we made you and Mommy a picture for your anniversary,” Joey said as his sister held it up for them to see.

He took the picture and looked at it, a wide smile appeared on his face. “I love it, it’s perfect, thank you both,” he said, handing Jade the picture. It was two stick figures, one had blond hair, one dark and they were kissing. “OK you two, go get dressed and we’ll go make mommy breakfast.”

Jenny jumped up and down. “Can we make chocolate chip pancakes?”

Jade laughed. “My favourite,” she said, winking at Zane.

Once the kids left he got out of bed and pulled on his pants, grateful the twins hadn’t walked in ten minutes earlier. Leaning over kissed her. “I love you so much.”

Smiling she kissed him back. “I’ll be down shortly.” She sat up, covering herself with the sheet. “Zane. I fell in love with you right from the beginning, I love you now and I’ll love you more tomorrow.”

He pulled her into his arms. “Same here sweetheart. Don’t be too long, I have a surprise for you.” Kissing her again went downstairs with the twins.

After a quick shower, she went down and stopped in the doorway and listened to her family talking as they made a mess making the pancakes.

“Jenny, Joey, let’s go over the rules one more time. Before entering mommy and daddy’s room what do you do?”

“We knock and wait for you to tell us to come in,” both twins said at the same time.

Pouring herself a cup of coffee she sat down as they served up the meal. “So what is this big surprise you have for me?” she asked, her curiosity getting the better of her.

Wiping his mouth with the napkin got up and going into his coat pocket took out an envelope and giving her a kiss handed it to her. “This was long overdue. Happy anniversary honey.”

Reading the papers her eyes went wide, her jaw dropped open and tears sprang to her eyes. “My God Zane, Jamaica.”

Going over he kneeled before her and wiped her tears away. “We never got to go on a honeymoon, though every day with you seemed like one. I secretly put money away in an account over the years to save for this. Two weeks, just you and me.”

She threw her arms around him, she wondered how she could love him any more than she already did. “I love it, but what about the twins?”

“I took care of everything. Your Aunt is going to watch them and the women who work for you are going to take care of the shop and my deputy is covering for me. All you have to do is pack, we leave tomorrow morning.”

Standing up he pulled her into his arms, his mouth came down on hers. The sound of the twins giggling could be heard as they kissed.
