Unknown Magic (3)
Chapter 10.1

Light was descending and we were all alerted, to scared to even blink because of missing something. Everything was at high stakes as it usually is when we come into battle. The last battle, the reds did not back down and we had to chase them, which is why we had to leave for two months. My hope this time is that we can be over and done with this and be home by tomorrow evening, if we are lucky.

Besides the vision I had didn’t show many just enough that our army could take them all on.

I surveyed the land again with Wolf as everything around us became darker from the dimming sun. We, as the pack and I, are positioned by the first barrier in an open field while Brock and a few of his warriors are at the other barrier. On our toes, attack at any moment that is not nature.

The air around was becoming cooler since we were in the north as the descending sun was about to pop out. Lights from the village through the trees began to blink on. But with a ritual and my powers I was able to mask it, so if a red were to see it, they couldn’t and would probably be trying to find it but had to defend themselves against us.

A rustle of the wind caught my attention as well Wolfs, I began to use my sense, feeling, listening and anticipating what was to come. There were feet and not far. Breathing was everywhere but I directed it to the bushes that rustled only seconds ago. Then someone was only to take the first step. And with my actions reflex I took a hold and I whipped my bow out grabbing my arrow and aimed it to where the footsteps and let go. With a second later a body slumped out of the bushes holding a sword while clutching the arrow, they fell down dead. My senses were right and I did not pity their bait.

The sun popped out and Wolf readied his position as did I, we gave another look to one another. A stare of ‘stay alive, just survive.’ The message was said to one another before we go into battle. Something to remind us to see each other on the other side no matter what.

Then the thunderous feet brought déjá Vu, but I forced the message away and prepared my next own and fired as the dozens upon dozens red immortals in the red armour came roaring at us. One by one the arrows soared through the air plunking silently into the bodies. I was fast but this would only keep them at bay for so long. I couldn’t have my arrows soar in all the bodies at once. Even though I can be thankful that I don’t shake or break upon pressure. I still fear as they get closer.

Wolf though is inching to attack them, but he knows that is not our tactic as when they come, I aim and fire my arrows as fast as I can to the many, anyway I can lessen the future face to face combat that we will experience. Soon at any moment.

Time is time and the bodies do lessen, letting in impact become less, giving me some hope that we can prevent a slight attack on the human village.

The next part was slow motion my mind had to catch up to my body as when the few red reached almost in arm’s length. I braced my bow and took a step forward letting iron and wooden bow collide hard with a face hearing a crack and a groan to catching a hard weapon twisting it free. I almost struggle to gain control as I threw the next hit away. One after the others I beat away, jumped with feeling no gravity to smacking myself down hard to the ground to avoid collision that would result in me bang part of a painful sandwich.

My breathing was not erratic but my heart was beginning to pound like crazy. It was not out of fear but something of the unknown. Least I did not want to think it was fear.

I soon had to return to the upright position but on guard as I had to use hand to hand combat, pushing away with groans of force and hear subtle shifts of footwork. To almost being pounded down that I had to swing an upper hook up to doing a half cartwheel; knocking the snot out of a red.

Taking my bow again I swung it at a neck lifting myself off the ground kicking away another oncoming red and slamming down the red with a hard force to the ground. I screamed from annoyance as now one after the other kept coming at me and I began to swing myself up into the air to a deadly windmill feeling face the wrong way face up. But at those moments I began to feel flawless as if now nothing could stop me. I was knocking and cutting away as if the red were nothing. Air flowed through my lungs as if I was breaking with no, limiting aside breathing in air that now began to smell like rotten blood. It didn’t slow me down, as only think I always reminded me was to fight for my life and everyone else’s survival. Just fight. These red have no intention on working for mercy.

The reds were becoming more or less, I could not tell, I could use fire to give light and make them fear, but there was a risk of them heading to the village and I didn’t want to use my power only unless it was necessary.

I kept slashing away reds with almost now tired body but I kept forward. But until I was hit from behind and slammed to the ground, that I rolled my body fast enough to even though I was coughing up grass and dirt. With a stinging feeling ripping through my limbs. To make matter worse when a red immortal slammed himself on top of me and began trying to suffocate the air out of me. He had my legs pinned and hands around my neck that I tried prying away but he was much stronger than I was at the moment.

I gritted my teeth with air grunts barely audible. I couldn’t see him just the outline from the little bit of light from the sky. Fear now was pushing through as if I did not get him off or kill him sooner than later, he would suffocate me. As already air in my lungs began to lessen. Now or never.

I reach for my thigh dagger and slashed his gut open. He loosened his grip and fell beside me already gurgling blood. I looked down at him and had no pity as I sliced his head off.

Fight to survive.

Again, the moment is short as I defend myself against a few more reds with a recurring thought that always comes to my mind.

when will it end?

The red immortal doesn’t seem to be lessening as if they were multiplying for some reason even though bodies upon bodies were gathered on the ground. The familiar blood darkens the grass, squishing between my feet. I looked to where I could find Wolf and he too was slicing through the reds with claws and his jaw. I needed to get to him, though a crowd was stopping me. Though a few more warriors come to our aid but they were not much help. That is till I saw a shadow in the sky, instead of looking up I dropped to the ground again just in time for another assault, avoiding an attack hearing a clash. I brought my bow up and fired an arrow at my attacker. While inspecting the sky and seeing bat wings with a small silhouette on it. An engulfing fire blazed from the creature.
