Chapter 19

Mother Confessor:

My thick white hair clinging to my head, still heavy from my shower. Feeling refreshed and cleansed of earthen smell of my home world. Reminiscing over the lovely images that washed into my slumber. Rhapsodizing about the writings in the book of fantasy tales. Absorbing the pages filled with their imagery and metaphors. The intrinsic morals they teach mirroring the reality and it’s many lessons we all must learn. Though mine have been on a steep curve, in understanding what it is like to have real interactions. Learning that I do not have to be so mechanical. Instead being slammed with a wash of emotions, and learning what others have always known how to feel. These many thoughts buzzing in my skull, electric are these new pathways sparking into existence. The mental invasion I welcome with openness on my way back to my new home. Unable to contain the joy I endure as a result of turning the pages of adventures of imagination. The bounce still in my step as I push forth into the river of military personnel. Feeling a pleasure that is very much different from the physical. My curious nature flooded with so many questions needing to be worked through. I feel as light as the air, carried away to another place, to another time.

Marckus:

Taking my weapon from the Master Sergeant, I nod him my thanks. Retrieving the magazine from my pocket, I angrily slam it in the pistol. Pulling the slide back, watching as the powerful bullet gets rammed into the chamber. Placing the ready hand cannon back in my shoulder holster. I clumsily start off down the glaring whiteness of the endless corridors.

I may have misjudged the Ober-Commander, who now is furious. Watching as he limps into the brightness of these over lit tunnels. Giving him a few moments to gather his composure. Though it has to be very hard to lose two people that were very close to him in such a short amount of time. Glancing down at the dead officers console, before setting off after the senior officer with Shadow Company in tow. Being only bruised up, I catch up and lock step with him.

Wondering what must be going though his mind as we march off in silence. Within a few meters of one of the seamless doors, the console pings. Both of us look at the device, then at the door.

“Clever, now let us use our key” , the Ober-Commander says looking at the door. Moving closer to the door, keeping an eye on the console as I approach.

Within a meter, the console display opens a small window. The window was requesting if I would like to open the sealed room. Tapping my affirmation on the screen. The old officer at my side, weapon in hand. I follow his lead, as the sealed hatchway gives a long low hiss. Holding the 15mm at the ready.

A coldness enters the corridor as the unsealed room opens before us. Lights start to flicker on, as the door continues its motion. The duller glow inside revealing a very curious laboratory.

Many rows of glass cylinders lining the main part of the floor in grid fashion. A computer terminal set at the head of each pair of the many rows. On the wall to the right of the door are many scientific apparatus. Taking in this new development, a chilling thought crosses my mind.

“Well I will be damned” , exclaims the Ober-Commander, “Confeds are setting up a bio engineering facility way out here. Lucky for us they do not have the place up and running. Judging by the way things are lain out, they plan on growing soldiers for their extension of empire. Rip the hard-drive from one of the consoles, and then we will go and find the civilians that are still stuck here against their will.”

Not wasting anytime being technical with the device, I pry it open with the blade of the kitana. Disconnecting the fiber cables linked up to the memory storage device. Placing the hardware in my cargo pocket. The very notion that the Confederation is willing to play gods, and create life meant to be expendable. It makes me nauseous just trying to fathom what other sick lows they will stoop to in order to achieve dominion on an intergalactic level. Only time will reveal these disturbing answers to the morbid questions. Setting off once more through this wretched Terran science asylum, in search of what is left of the poor inhabitants held hostage.
