Jasmine took an unexpected step back when Christopher tugged her out of the way. Regaining her balance, she saw

Christopher guarding Samantha like Jasmine was some wild animal. Jasmine just smirked and shot Joanna a look that said it

all.

Joanna just watched them, amused, while Samantha appeared totally confused by all the fuss. “It’s just a hug, guys… she thought to herself.

“Aww, take it easy! It was just a friendly squeeze. No big deal, right?” Jasmine laughed, moving to join Joanna. She had a hunch that Christopher might be into Samantha.  sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ FindNøvᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“You’re holding her a bit too tight. Give Samantha some air, will you?” Christopher spoke up, deadpan. He wasn’t too happy about Jasmine hugging Samantha so closely.

Jasmine caught on quick, though. She and Joanna shared a look, then she chugged her drink like a pro.

Samantha came out from behind Christopher, trying to defuse the situation. “Okay, no need to overanalyze, jas. I’ll send you that party invite in a few days. I’ve got stuff to do now, so I’m heading out with Christopher.”

With a wave and a smile, Jasmine and Joanna called after them. “Stay safe on your way home!”

They were suppressing their laughter. Samantha knew they were reading too much into it and she smiled helplessly before leaving with Christopher.

After leaving Artemis Kitchen, they hopped in the car and took off. Samantha was bushed and soon started snoozing against the window. Christopher threw quick looks at her sleeping face in the mirror while he drove. He kept the ride smooth, and soon they were at the Vanderbilt residence. Samantha woke up as they parked, stretching and stepping out into the eveni

air.

Around 7 p.m., the house was buzzing. Servants were everywhere, getting dinner set up, and some folks were hauling shopping bags.

Inside, Samantha saw Kathleen giving orders about where to put this pile of bling and those designer bags-total high- society swag. It felt like a replay of last year when Freddie had paraded his birthday gifts for her on Instagram for days. ‘Guess Kathleen’s going for the encore, Samantha thought.

Christopher watched Kathleen’s shopping show and started thinking about what fancy present he could snag for Samantha. No particular reason, he just wanted to impress her. He glanced at Samantha, who looked kind of lost in thought and super cute, and had to resist the urge to just squish her cheeks.

Samantha was hoping to duck out, but Kathleen caught her. “Hey, Sammie, you’re just in time! Supper’s almost ready. Check out what I picked up for you. Oh, and Chris is still here-why not stick around for dinner?” Kathleen felt folks by the door, so she spun around and there was Samantha, totally zoned out. Kathleen beelined over, all bubbly and talking a mile a minute. It wasn’t till she got close that she noticed Christopher was with Samantha.

Samantha snapped out of it and said, “Hey, Mom; Christopher and I already ate. Plus, he’s gotta hit the road.”

Hearing that, Kathleen didn’t push them to stay, but calling her “mom” kind of got her teary-eyed.

Then, Christopher said his goodbyes to both of them, thinking. There’ll be other times!

Kathleen always looked at Samantha with such soft eyes, it made Samantha wonder if the Vanderbilt family hung around for more than just what they could get. Kathleen dragged Samantha into the big room, where the table was stacked with shopping bags. Samantha suddenly felt wiped out.

But Kathleen was in the zone, getting everyone to check out all the stuff. She wanted Samantha to try things on, but then thought better of it and started playing dress-up with Samantha instead.

Tossing bags around, a mega expensive outfit got ditched because it didn’t fit Samantha’s style. A fancy watch got nixed for being too hideous. High-end stuff that usually gets people drooling got no love.

That was when Adrienne walked in, all green with envy. ‘Why does she get everything?” Adrienne was fuming. Her face was white, and her clothes were a mess she looked like she wanted revenge.

–

The servants were kinda glad to see her brought down a peg. Adrienne used to give the servants a hard time because she was a Vanderbilt. Now, things were flipped..

Samantha noticed Adrienne’s sour look but blew it off. She just kept on trying on accessories and asking Kathleen, “Do these look okay?

Kathleen couldn’t stop gushing over Samantha, who felt a tiny bit awkward but was also kind of loving Adrienne’s jealous

stare.

Kathleen sensed someone and thought maybe Christopher came back. She spun around with a grin, thinking to invite him for dinner, but it was just Adrienne. Kathleen’s smile faded. She turned back toward Samantha and the bling like Adrienne didn’t even exist.

Feeling snubbed, Adrienne grew even more upset. “What’s happened to Mom? Didn’t she used to adore me? Adrienne was thinking

“Ma’am, dinner’s ready,” said Bailey, giving a quick nod before scooting off. Bailey shot Adrienne a nod at the door and squeezed by.

Adrienne was steaming-when did she become such a nobody that even a servant could snub her?

“Adrienne, remember where you stand. This is the Vanderbilt residence, and you’re a guest, Kathleen said. She added that the earlier scolding was because Adrienne spilled soy milk on Samantha and bad-mouthed her. “Act right, don’t stir up trouble, and you’re cool to stay”

Kathleen tried a white bag on Samantha, but it was a no-go, so she tossed it. The servants just shot each other a look their paychecks were covered anyhow.

Conrad strolled down, looking like he just had a shower, rocking silver specs. He peeped Kathleen and Samantha playing show-and-tell with the loot. A look of resignation mixed with affection washed over his face. Seeing Samantha just going through the motions, his smile grew a little. “Hey Mom, how about we grab a bite before we do this?” he suggested.

Samantha chimed in, “Yeah, I could eat.” She’d rather be stuffed than spend more time picking out clothes with Kathleen. It was troublesome, and she was tired.
