Chapter 19 Kneel Down 

Meredith moved her head slightly. The ashtray grazed her car and landed on the floor, shattering into pieces. 

Beulah trembled in fear and looked at Meredith worriedly. Seeing that she wasn’t hurt, Beulah pleaded with Tom Tom. please calm down. Let’s talk things out. Don’t hit Merry.” 

“Move aside. If I don’t teach Meredith a lesson today, she won’t respect me as her father!” Tom kicked Beulah away, grabbed the belt he had prepared, and whipped it on the carpet before Meredith. “Kneel 

down!” 

Meredith glanced at Beulah, who had fallen and hit the edge of the coffee table when she was kicked. Meredith furrowed her brows slightly. 

“Dad, please calm down.” Myra stepped forward to soothe Tom before she turned to Meredith and advised her earnestly. “Meredith, just kneel and apologize to Dad. I believe you didn’t intentionally skip the exam. Just explain yourself, and he’ll forgive you.” 

“Who said I skipped the exam?” Meredith retorted coldly. Her gaze swept past Tom’s face and landed on Myra’s. 

Meredith’s icy demeanor inexplicably made Myra feel guilty, but Myra thought to herself. Meredith is just a naive girl from the countryside. There’s nothing to fear. She must be putting an act. 

“If you didn’t skip the exam, why did you hang up on me and turn off your phone? And why couldn’t I get hold of you all afternoon?” Tom thought of how Meredith had hung up on him in the morning and angrily raised his belt to whip Meredith. 

Just as Meredith lifted her hands to protect herself, someone suddenly pounced on her and kept her from being struck. Beulah was hit instead, and her brows furrowed in pain, but she didn’t make a sound. She asked worriedly, “Are you okay, Merry?” 

As Meredith supported Beulah, who had lost her balance, something deep inside Meredith stirred. Since her foster mother had passed away, she had closed herself off and treated everyone coldly. Other than her grandmother, no one else cared for her like this….. 

“Tom, don’t hit Merry. Hit me instead.” Beulah shielded Meredith and pleaded with Tom. 

Tom didn’t expect Beulah to take the hit for Meredith, and he regretted hitting her slightly. But he thought to himself. I’m the head of the house. If I don’t show Meredith who’s the boss, I’ll be powerless in this family. 

“Step aside! Otherwise, I’ll hit you again!” he shouted angrily. 

Myra didn’t expect Beulah to be so protective over Meredith, and she felt incredibly jealous. Although Beulah had a lowly position in the Kane family, she was still the lady of the house. Myra didn’t want to see anyone in the Kane family treat Meredith kindly. She felt entitled to the Kane family’s affection! 

“Meredith, you should stop lying at this point,” Myra advised Meredith kindly. “Ms. Miller contacted Dad because she couldn’t find you in the exam hall. This is being spread on the school forum, and public opinion is against you. It’s bad for the Kane family’s reputation. Just come clean so Dad can try to solve 

this matter.” 

Although Myra appeared to be advising Meredith earnestly, what she said reminded Tom that news of Meredith skipping the exam had gone viral on the Quantum Academy forum. Everyone was criticizing

Tom was sensitive about his reputation and couldn’t bear the thought of Kane family being humiliated. “T think you’re deliberately embarrassing the Kane family! Tom raised his belt 

again. 

When she saw it, Beulah wanted to take the hit for Meredith, but Meredith stopped her. Meredith raised her left hand and grabbed the belt before it hit her. “Public opinion will naturally be swayed after the results are released tomorrow,” 

“That’s easy for you to say! Why did you skip the exam in the first place?!” Tom berated Meredith sternly. “Come with me to Quantum tomorrow morning and apologize to them!” 

Meredith was dumbstruck. How many times must I repeat myself? I didn’t skip the exam! 

Tom turned to Myra and said gently, “Myra, ask Julian to help persuade Quantum’s publicity department to delete these posts!” 

Julian Hale was Myra’s fiancé. His mother was the head of the four influential families in the city, a collateral branch of the Stormborn family. Therefore, the Hale family still held a certain status. If Julian intervened, the academy’s publicity department wouldn’t disobey him. 

“Okay, Dad.” Myra seemed docile on the surface, but she was concealing a cunning smile, 

If Meredith’s reputation was utterly ruined tomorrow, she would have a hard time in Northerndale. The Kane family would also never acknowledge her as their biological daughter in order not to ruin their reputation! 

Early the following morning, Tom arrived at the director of student affairs office under Myra’s guidance, where Mr. Langley and Ms. Miller stood waiting. 

“Dad, this is Mr. Langley, and this is Ms. Miller, my homeroom teacher for this semester.” Myra introduced the two faculty members. 

“Hello, Mr. Langley. I’ve heard so much about you,” Tom greeted Mr. Langley with a cordial smile as they shook hands. 

“Hello.” Mr. Langley shook Tom’s hand warmly. “You’re Myra’s dad and Meredith’s guardian, right?” 

Since Julian had arranged this meeting, Tom knew what to do. He took out a large envelope from his pocket with his other hand and handed it to Mr. Langley. “Mr. Langley, I apologize for the trouble caused by my ignorant adopted daughter. Mr. Langley immediately understood what the envelope held as he took it. Many parents would give such envelopes to teachers, hoping their children would get special treatment. 

But Quantum Academy’s rules clearly stated that accepting bribes wasn’t allowed. Moreover, this was a student to whom the principal paid special attention. 

“Mr. Reign, bribery is illegal,” Mr. Langley said sternly. He pushed the envelope back, and it fell to the floor 

with a thud. 

Tom didn’t expect Mr. Langley to refuse. It was clear from the sound how thick the envelope’s contents were, and it attracted everyone’s attention.

Tom suddenly felt blood rush to his cheeks. He always took great care to keep his reputation intact. 

At that moment, it felt as though someone had slapped him forcefully. He felt nothing but a burning 

sensation. 

He turned to look at Myra, his gaze furious and reproachful. Didn’t Julian arrange this? 

Myra was taken aback by his expression. Why aren’t things going according to plan? 

“What a lively scene.” Meredith’s voice echoed from the office’s entrance. 

“You’re here, Ms. Reign. Please take a seat and have some tea.” Mr. Langley greeted Meredith warmly. 

“Meredith, I’ve taken care of all your admission procedures. Shall I escort approached Meredith charmingly.

Meredith glanced at Sonya coldly. With Sonya’s smile, she was clearly trying to curry favor with Meredith. It was a stark contrast to her aggressive demeanor from the previous day, and Meredith couldn’t help but chuckle silently. 

Mr. Langley and Sonya’s attempts to fawn on Meredith bewildered Tom and Myra. 

What? Why have Meredith’s admission procedures already been completed? Didn’t Meredith skip the entrance exam? How is she still admitted to Class One?! 

“Mr. Langley, are you mistaken?!” Tom asked in shock.
