Sedine caught a water bottle tossed to her by Aurora Asher, happily drinking from it. She’d just gotten done with her daily sword-practice with the older woman, and was feeling all wired up from it.

Vassa was probably with Cadence right now, doing an art lesson. Or maybe in the library, looking for a way to break the curse of Yester.

She had moved back to Blackhall with her friend as soon as they’d gotten back to Zircon, and the Asher couple had been happy to see them. Vassa and Pinky had quickly assimilated into the little family, and Pinky happily recounted breaking Fayen’s legs to Aurora many times.

Sedine’s half-sister, Camellia, was planning on starting lessons at Blackhall’s music program next year. Cadence had appointed Sedine as her harp teacher, and Sedine couldn’t be happier about it. She’d had a few dinners with her step-father and little sister in the past months, talking about her and Camellia’s mother, and their shared experiences fleeing from the Malachites. Her step-father was a wonderful man, who she greatly wished she could have met earlier.

Indeara and her siblings had settled down in a little town not far from Blackhall called Lavin. Indeara said the climate was good for Uvear’s bones, and that the townspeople were very kind. Sedine planned on taking her up on her offer for a visit in a few weeks.

From what Indeara said, Kaedwyn was a frequent visitor there already, and both of the Vef sisters expected the young woman to propose to Isaan soon.

As for the other couple, Toby and Allie, they had returned to their home country of Reganne. Allie had evidently been the runaway daughter of a duke, like Sedine herself. They had been publicly engaged. Vassa, ever the proud Reganne citizen, had found the whole thing hilarious. Sedine agreed with her.

And Toby had made good on his promise. Sedine wasn’t sure the specifics, but the Malachites had all properties and titles confiscated by the time she settled back into Blackhall. Bless him.

“Sedine!” Cadence called her. “Regis is back!”
