Chapter 138

“Friends,” Gina said.

Ruby nodded thoughtfully. “it’s good to take it slow. After all, for two people to be together and be happy, they need to get along well.”

Actually, Gina felt quite relaxed and happy when she was with Gabriel.

However, she still had important matters to handle and didn’t want to waste time on dating.

She wanted to investigate the truth behind the massacre of the family who had briefly fostered her years ago.

She would only consider love and relationships after the truth was revealed.

“Let’s eat,” Ruby took Gina’s hand as they walked back to the dining room

“Gabriel said he was going to pick you up, so I didn’t go. I stayed home to prepare dinner for you. Now that I think about it, it wasn’t a good decision. I should have gone with Gabriel!” Ruby sighed.

Gina smiled. “It’s fine with

just one person coming to pick me up.”

Gina paused and, unusually, took the initiative to tell Ruby about some matters. “Actually, someone else came to pick me up.”

“Who?” Ruby was a bit puzzled.

“Someone from the Miller family.”

Ruby’s expression changed. She put down her spoon and said, “These shameless people! How could they treat you so badly during the funeral and while you were in the detention center? And now, how dare they come looking for you?”

“Ella said that she hopes I can return to the Miller family.”

“Return? Gina, don’t return! You’re my daughter now. You have nothing to do with the Miller family. I won’t allow them to snatch my daughter away!”

Gina was stunned for a moment, then said solemnly, “I think, from now on, I won’t call you Ruby anymore. I’ll just call you Mom.”

Ruby didn’t expect Gina to bring it up herself. She laughed heartily and said, “I have no abjection. With a daughter as outstanding as you, I feel like I’m living in a dream!”

“Mom,” Gina called out.

“Oh! Mom’s here!” Ruby happily put down her spoon, walked over to Gina, and hugged her. “It’s great, I have a daughter now. Gina, my dear, if it weren’t for you, I might not have made it this far.”

In the year she found Gina, Ruby had already lost all hope. She often thought of ending her life to be with her son and husband who had left her early.

It was also because of her constant depression that she later developed stomach cancer. If Gina had not sent her to Prover Hospital and saved her with the best medicine and medical care, she would not have survived to this day

Gina asked seriously, “Mom, I know their deaths have always been a burden on your heart, Can you tell me how they passed away?”

Gina remembered that she had heard from an old lady in the village who was familiar with her mother that her husband and son had died in the line of duty.

However, she did not know the exact situation.

She wanted to help Ruby untie the knot in her heart.

Ruby fell silent, and her expression became visibly gloomy. Gina frowned. “I’m sorry, Mom. I shouldn’t have brought it up.”

“No, Gina, It’s not your fault. You’re asking because you care about me. It’s just… I really don’t want to talk about this right now.” As she spoke, Ruby began to tear up. She quickly wiped her tears. “Look at how disappointing I am. I should have been happy to welcome you today?

“Mom, don’t suppress your emotions. It’s better to let them out,” Gina said,

Ruby nodded. “You’re right, my dear, I’ll adjust myself right away.”

After wiping her tears, Ruby changed the topic. “Gina, when Lucas was with the Miller family, did he often make things difficult for you? He’s so malicious. He was secretly keeping your fingerprints, just waiting to frame you one day. How could there be such a bad person?”

Gina replied calmly, “It’s all in the past. However, Lucas isn’t his real name. His real name is Cole Yale. I heard from the police that he’s also involved in another case.”

“What did you say his real name was?” Ruby’s fingers trembled slightly.

Cole Yale.” Gina looked up, sensing something amiss with Ruby’s reaction. “Mom, what’s wrong?”

“Nothing, nothing.” Ruby shook her head. “Let’s eat.”

Ethan was driving back to visit his grandfather who was unwell. He heard that his grandfather had coughed up blood due to worrying about Gina. Ethan was speechless for a moment. He really suspected that Gina had bewitched his grandfather. As his grandson, he didn’t receive the treatment he deserved, while Gina seemed to be treated more like a granddaughter than him.

He was the Jackson family’s direct descendant, but he was still being overshadowed by an outsider, What was worse was that he had been ruthlessly humiliated by this outsider. Ethan felt even more angrier when he thought of Gina.

He was so angry that he wanted to smash the steering wheel Suddenly, a person jumped out from the side of the road. He was so frightened that he stepped on the brakes, avoiding a collision. Ethan’s temper flared up. He opened the door and got out of the car, yelling, “Are you fucking courting death?”

“Ethan! It’s me, it’s me!”

Ethan looked at the disheveled woman rushing towards him and was startled. “Are you crazy?”

“It’s me, Olivia!”

Olivia hurriedly brushed aside her disheveled hair, allowing Ethan to see her face clearly.

Ethan watched as Olivia grabbed his hand and abruptly shook it off. “You bitch, how dare you come to me?”  Sᴇaʀch Thᴇ ꜰindNʘvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

At the engagement banquet, the two of them had completely fallen out with each other, scolding as badly as they could. Olivia had made him a big joke in their circle of friends. Now, whenever he saw Olivia, he really wanted to strangle her to death.

“Ethan, I don’t have a choice. I’m desperate. You’re the only person I know now. I beg you, on account of our past relationship, help me and take me in, okay? Ethan, as long as you take me in, I’ll do anything!”

Olivia suddenly leaned into Ethan’s arms as if her body had no bones.

Chapter 138

Ethan immediately pushed Olivia away. “Are you out of your mind? The biggest regret of my life is being engaged to you. You’ve humiliated me so many times, yet you still have the nerve to come to me?”

“You forgot what you said to me back then?”

She said that except for her, no one cared about Ethan. It’s a damn joke.

Olivia lowered her

her head and suddenly sneered, “You and I are just alike.”

Ethan was furious. He raised his hand as if to hit Olivia. “Can’t you try to speak more politely?”

“Ethan, as long as you promise to help me, you are also helping yourself. Do you understand?” Olivia said.
