“A parasite of the family,” Chuck thought, feeling a strong disdain for Max.
Reassured by Chuck’s immense confidence, Ben relaxed and replied, “Mr. Chuck, you’re right. I was overreacting and making a mountain out of a molehill.”
“Alright, I’m tired. I need to rest. Since you can’t stay in Shyran, continue working for me here in Mosnioca,” Chuck said, stretching lazily.
“Understood!” Ben nodded in response.
Chuck went upstairs and returned to his room. Feeling inspired, he decided to visit his secret room to admire his “great achievements.” He walked to the bookshelf and pressed a hidden switch on the wall.
A beam of light scanned Chuck’s eye, and a mechanical voice declared, “Iris scan successful.”
The bookshelf automatically moved aside, revealing the door to the secret room. Chuck pushed it open and entered. Inside were several boxes of gold bars and antiques, but most importantly, his business ledgers accumulated over the years.
He used a key to unlock the safe on the shelf.
As he opened it, Chuck was shocked to see the safe completely empty. For a moment, he couldn’t believe his eyes. How could it be empty?
Chuck, refusing to accept this, overturned the safe, but nothing fell out.
Realizing something major had happened, Chuck angrily smashed the safe onto the floor, completely losing his composure. He yelled, “How is this possible? D*mn it, how is this possible?”
His mind raced, ‘The secret room requires an iris scan. No one but me should be able to get in, not even a fly!
‘And the safe’s lock and key are custom-made, the only pair in the world. How could anyone open it?’
Chuck gritted his teeth, left the secret room, closed it back up, and ran into the hallway, shouting, “Ben, get up here!”
Ben, who was about to return to his guest room, was startled and thought, ‘Why is Mr. Chuck shouting like a madman?’
Ben felt a bit afraid but had no choice but to rely on Chuck’s protection. He could not pretend not to hear, so he went upstairs. Facing the enraged Chuck, he asked nervously, “Mr. Chuck, what’s wrong?”
Without a word, Chuck grabbed Ben by the collar and dragged him into the room, forcing him in front of the scanner.
Seconds later, the scanner finished and declared, “Iris scan successful!”
“F*ck!” Chuck cursed, punching the circular scanner, shattering it instantly.
Someone had hacked the system, altering the program to allow any iris to be recognized as valid.
Ben saw the secret room open and was still confused, asking, “Mr. Chuck, what’s wrong?”
Even more infuriated by the question, Chuck snapped, “What’s wrong? The ledgers are gone! No, they’ve been stolen!”
Chuck found it unbelievable and unacceptable that his ledgers could be stolen.
“It must be Gina!” Ben said as he immediately thought of her.
At this moment, Chuck also felt Ben was right. After all, who else but Gina would want those ledgers?
