Chapter 195

Kristin’s eyes rimmed red as she realized that Rhett’s actions weren’t for her, the socalled contract wife, yet she couldn’t help but feel moved

So, umshall we go on?Kristin asked Rhett with a timid voice.

And why not? You’re not planning to leave the fire you started, are you?” Rhett looked at Kristin with a dangerous glint in his eye.

Kristin’s heart raced as she wrapped her arms around Rhett’s neck.

Mr. FitzGerald, how long is this vacation supposed to be?” Kristin whispered.

She wanted to know how much longer she could have Rhett all to herself.

People really do become greedier with time.

Now she was finding herself craving a moment alone with Rhett, even if it was just a short one. “No rush. After the wedding reception, I have a special place to take you,” Rhett said, not immediately giving in to Kristin’s advances, but rather carefully drying her hair with a towel.

Her hair, which she hadn’t cut since her release from prison, had grown quickly and was now grazing her shoulders.

“Kristin…” Rhett said with a husky voice, massaging her head as he spoke. “You gotta let your hair grow out.”

Kristin looked up at Rhett and asked quietly, “Do you prefer long hair, Mr. FitzGerald?”

“The first time I saw you, you had long hair,” Rhett said, cupping Kristin’s small face.

“Do you remember the first time we met?” Rhett smiled.

Kristin thought hard and nodded. “At the Fitzgerald estate.”

Rhett hummed disapprovingly. “No, that wasn’t it.”

At that time, Kristin’s heart and eyes were solely for Vincent, so she hardly noticed anyone else, even someone as outstanding as Rhett.

“Your school.” Rhett had been invited back to participate in a forum and had seen Kristin rushing late.

Kristin blinked, not recalling that encounter at all.

“And your ballet solo performance,” Rhett added.

Kristin was surprise. Rhett had been there that day too?

“You have no recollection of me?” Rhett’s tone was tinged with jealousy.

Well… Kristin stammered. She truly had no memory of it

was… back then, I was too scared to look at you. You seemed so stern

unapproachable, Kristin quickly explained

Her first real meeting with Rhett at the Fitzgerald estate had left a strong impression. Rhett had seemed so severe, his presence almost forbidding, as if his face bore a sign that read Keep Out. Do Not Speak to Me.‘

Was I that scary?” Rhett narrowed his eyes. “And now? What about now?”

NowKristin took a deep breath, afraid to tell the truth.

The truth was that Rhett’s presence was still overwhelming, and she was still scared.

But not as much as before.

You’re not scary anymore,” Kristin giggled, resting her head on Rhett’s shoulder.

It wasn’t that Rhett had become less intimidating; she had just become braver.

Rhett turned off the hairdryer and pulled Kristin back into bed. After kissing Kristin’s ear, he spoke in a gravelly voice. “What has Harriet been teaching you? Hmm?”

Kristin stuttered, “Just, just…”

Unable to finish her sentence, she decided to take action. Propping herself up, she boldly pushed Rhett onto his back.

Rhett wanted to laugh but didn’t want to embarrass Kristin, so he lay there quietly, watching her.

Kristin’s cheeks were as red as cooked shrimp, and she tentatively sat atop Rhett but made no further move.

Rhett drew a sharp breath. Had Harriet taught her to torment and test his patience?

“And then?” Rhett asked meaningfully.

Kristin’s mind went blank, she had forgotten all the details Harriet had taught her.

After fumbling for a while, she poked Rhett’s abs timidly. “You need to work out…”

“Ah!” Before Kristin could finish, Rhett had flipped her beneath him.

He was no saint capable of resisting temptation, especially when faced with the delectable Kristin.

Kristin must have really worn herself out over the past few days because she fell asleep immediately, not even noticing when Rhett took her for a shower.

She slept soundly through the night, and upon waking the next morning, she found Rhett was already gone from the room.

Mr. FitzGerald? Rhett

Kristin felt a twinge of fear. She dreaded waking alone in

since six years ago

She feared being abandoned once Rhett grew tired or had his fill of her

Nervously climbing out of bed, Kristin went in search of Rhett and had just reached the living room when she saw him return, drenched in sweat from his workout.

You…” Kristin’s voice caught with emotion. “Where did you go?”

Rhett glanced at Kristin, noticing her reddened eyes and felt a tightness in his chest

He had wanted to let Kristin sleep in a bit longer.

“Didn’t you want to know how I maintain these abs?” Rhett said, peeling off his shirt to reveal his well–defined, blood–engorged muscles.

Kristin turned her gaze away in a panic, overwhelmed by Rhett’s raw sexuality.

Rhett cornered Kristin. “You were scared when you couldn’t find me just now?”

Kristin nodded obediently.

“Next time, shall I take you with me to the gym?”

Kristin’s heart raced. Rhett was too sexy.

As Rhett was about to tease Kristin further, the doorbell rang. The hotel’s butler arrived with a gown and breakfast.

Good morning, sir, ma’am,” the butler greeted with a smile.

Kristin’s ears burned even redder.

‘Ma’am‘? That term of endearment…

It was only abroad, where few people knew them, that they could indulge in such a fantasy.

“Wedding attire?” Kristin gaped at the elegant white dress hanging nearby. “You want me to accompany you to the wedding?”

“What else? Leave you behind at the hotel to cry your eyes out?” Rhett ruffled Kristin’s hair soothingly. “Try it on, make sure it fits. I’m going to take a quick shower.”

When Rhett emerged, freshly showered, Kristin was struggling with the zipper at the back of the dress.

High–end custom–made gowns were not unfamiliar to Kristin, despite her five–year hiatus from society. She was still savvy about luxury brands and their hefty price tags.

This dress alone could cost a small fortune, easily over twenty grand.

Kristin felt the dress wat too precious, fearful of damaging it

Does it fit okay?Rhett approached, helping her zip up the dress, then embraced her from behind, looking at Kristin’s reflection in the mirror

He had to admit, Kristin was stunning.

Even a five year stretch behind bars couldn’t dim her natural radiance.

The only thing that seemed not suitable was the stark scars of attempted suicide on her orms,

Kristin clutched her wrist nervously, not wanting Rhett to see.

His gaze fell on her wrist, darkening for a split second.

Mr. FitzGerald… how did you know my size?” Kristin changed the subject.

“What do you think?” Rhett pinched her waist playfully.

Kristin’s cheeks flushed, she looked down, silent.

“The wedding calls for white attire,” Rhett said, taking Kristin’s wrist gently and examining the scars. “What are we to each other?”

Kristin tensed, unsure how to respond, “Superior and subordinate…”

“We’re married,” Rhett reminded her.

Kristin nodded, a small sound of acknowledgment escaping her.

“So, I won’t let anyone hurt you anymore, that includes yourself.” Rhett wrapped a silk scarf around Kristin’s wrist, hiding the jagged, ugly scars. “Remember that, okay?”
